I think this a good time at 6.18 to go and cook some chicken and savory rice in a stir fry sauce, then head back to Buckland Junction, and enjoy seeing the careful construction of the station. I do love the level of detail about the station.
Good work on the first platform Al. I was going to come round for a good running session this week, but I've come down with a heavy cold unfortunately 😢 So probably best to leave it until I have got rid of it. All the best. Mark.
Hi Alan, Hope your well, Great job on the new platform, I always look forward to catching up with what you been up to with Buckland Junction, just think when its all finished your be able to sit up in the loft with a few beers and just run trains. looking forward to your next video, you take care Alan S
Way to go! I see where I went wrong when I built my last platform now :o( The drawing board looks like a good investment too. Will email you shortly. Mike
Hi Alan, great work on the platform, Setting up the for the initial platform is just perfect hence why you have the correct gap between the trains and platforms. and all for a £5. Looking forward to seeing all the station platforms finished. it will also be interesting see the main station building is going to look like. I have ordered a Rotring rapid drawing drawing board which in know will come in very handy when start scratch building. many thanks for sharing. cheer's Tony
Hi Tony. Thanks for the nice comment. Yes the Rotring is a good piece of kit, mine is years old from when I had my own engineering biz, such a handy tool. I have been looking at station buildings and not sure yet what I am going to do, time will tell. I don't think it will be as intricate as your modelling skills, but I will do the best I can. Best Regards Alan in the loft :o)
This is excellent model building my dear friend ! The platform looks ever so realistic and beautifully following the curves of the track. A work of patience and love. Very well done ! And what's more fun and satisfying when you scratch build your own models ? We follow along and wish you success Alan! All the best & greetings Vera & Filip ( Packing and & a 1° move next Sunday )
That's a great looking layout. Ours is only a small one, although my grandson does keep finding something to film for his channel Dylington Model Railway. He's busy planning a 009 layout at the moment, so maybe there will be updates posted. Anyway just subscribed off to watch a few more of your videos. Cheers James 🙂👍
@AlanReynoldsBucklandJunction If you want to have a smile, check out Dylington Model Railway channel, it's my first attempt at a model railway and I've built it for my grandson. Everything is done purely for fun, that being said it did manage to find it's way into Model Rail Magazine a couple of years ago when we first started it as a beginners layout. Comments are turned off to protect my grandson as it's his channel, but if you decide to have a look you could pass on a comment to me on here. Anyway of to grab a cuppa and watch a couple more of your videos before bed. Cheers James 😁👍
Hey Alan, strange to relate but working on my station platform but using Wills plastic card and plaster for the surface. After seeing you working with the Rotring board some time back I tracked one down on ebay and got it. Great tool. Loved the pictures at the end you really have come a long way since then. Nice one.
Excellent platform build Alan! We're never too old to be shown how to scratch build platforms! As you said, it's not as easy as it looks..wish I had seen your video before I built my platforms..some nifty tips there..Been working on my terminus station..railings, ticket booths station nameboards and canopies (agh mend bending gluing, painting, gluing painting.._backscene buildings..Well done. Can't wait t see the other platforms in place.
Looking great Alan. It boggles my mind the amount of wiring you have on the layout and I wouldn’t profess to know what it all does. I actually think that would make a good video(s) moving forward 👍
Nice work on the platform Alan. You may have to watch that gap if you have any steam locomotives with extra wide cylinders or the bracing bar at the end of the slide rods, some GWR ones like the large prairies do. I have had to trim platform edges because of that even though most other stuff was fine.
Your old and new platforms look great. The old looks real with the weathering. I know you still have yet to weather the newer ones. I didn't know you built your layout in modules down in your house and not in your loft. How big is your loft access? Was it hard to get the modules through your access. Bill from California
You would get somewhere a lot quicker with ready-made platforms, meaning no glue or wiring needed and not time consuming. Scratch-building isn't for those with shaky hands. Besides, it's not messy when you put ready-made items into place. Of course, you can't do two things at once, yet your running sessions provide the fun. Make sure all your engines' driving wheels and the track are kept clean all over. You don't need to do it every day, once a month should do the trick. When you're not playing with trains, cover the whole railway with flexi-cardboard sheets or newspaper pages to keep the dust off. Happy modelling.
I would have made it with 6 lines and 2 platform, 1-4-1 or 2-4 with to 2 centre lines of the 4 going straight through the turnouts as they would be high speed lines, just bring it up as it might look too cluttered, but you're the modeler.
@AlanReynoldsBucklandJunction First time watching your channel, didn't realise how much you've done, I like the steam era I'm sure you now what you're doing mate. Great stuff

Hi ya Mike. I await your email Sir. Regards A; :o)
Here in the US I did a search for that T.D. Board. Had to use "portable drafting board" as the search to find something similar. Nice video. Thank you
Your most welcome and Thanks. Al :o)
Platform looks great Alan.👍
Cheers Fred :o)
Nice platform Alan, your layout overall has a nice design, you make good use of the space.
I planed it out for years before hand :o)

Hello Alan, your layout is looking great, very much enjoyed watching the method you used to build the platform. Take care all the best
Great work on the platforms and surrounds, Alan. I always love idea-process-build videos, and this was a very interesting one! Well done!
Hello Anthony Sir. Thanks and glad you enjoyed it so. Regards Alan in Dover UK (Hell Fire Corner) :o)
Nice platform construction there Alan, great work.

I actually think that would make a good video(s) moving forward 👍
Hi Charlie. I will do a video about the wiring and why, it's a bit complicated but worth the effort for total DC controlling. Regards Alan :o)

Hi Bill. Access is about 34 inches, a bit more diagonally. The loft is only 16 feet square, not as large as I would wish. Regards Alan in Dover UK :o)
