I can recommend Jacob's Pardon B3, an 18 year 142.7 proof American Light Whiskey as a possible GTS alternative. The Hooten Young Jack Carr 16 year 125 proof is also a banger. Lastly, the National Barrel Company 33 year 149.66 proof Canadian Whiskey is no slouch either. Cheers!
I love this type of video giving alternatives. WE all need those. Also would love to see a video where you blind the BTAC with your alternative and see how they rank. DO like the WLW or your favorite Handy. Cheers Buddy
Would like to see your "holiday bottle" list. I would categorize holiday bottles as the more expensive shelf available whiskeys that can be found in your hometown liquor store when you visit with family for the holidays.
I understand different parts of the country vary, but KC18 collects dust up here in New England. Batch 002 is getting marked down now with Batch 003 starting to come around. Always interesting to learn how different it is in other areas.
Help me drinking buddy, you’re my only hope! Doing a bottle exchange for Christmas with a good friend who has a MUCH larger collection than anyone I know. $100 limit. Could you give me like 3 bottles to consider (I’m in Scottsdale)? Thanks Buddy!
@@houstonSolo if he has a large collection that makes it tough. But here are some bangers in that range that hopefully he doesn't have. Man you picked a hard video to make. I do appreciate you doing it and giving your choices. Would be a great conversation had between fellow bourbon lovers sharing a pour. Cheers.
Always agree with you about Calumet 16. Really good stuff. Have you had the 15 as well? I like the oak on the 16 but I could see how a year less in the barrel could still be really good.
@@Juice8g I totally agree with you on how the cherry really pops on the Calumet 15. The 16 to me was fine but not an improvement just more expensive. I have found three bottles of Calumet 15 so far at $109.99 or less.
For those looking for WLW alternatives and happen to be in an area with good barrel picks, Larceny barrel proof picks and Bardstown Bourbon Company wheated picks are just now starting to get to market. Not as good as WLW, but getting there, and at a very affordable price to boot.
@@marcot9065 I would agree, as a big makers fan, makers often falls short on depth (the experience I have wher a bourbon will reveal new flavors on subsequent sips). Also, have you tried these barrel picks? You might be surprised.
What barrel spiral would you recommend for a saz rye? Also about long would you leave it in roughly?? I have a safeway SiB SP i think i want to try it with.
Link in the description to get um from Amazon. I like to let en go for months usually but you get almost all the oak extraction in the first two weeks.
At least 2 weeks, then try it. If you like it, pull it, if you want more oak, let ot go longer. And funny you mention the JD.... Stay tuned on that one!
Gts is going for 1k in canada and handy is 700 CAD. at that point just buy the btac or trade for it. Stagg jr makes incredible trade bait. Wlw and eagle on the other hand. Just wait 2 days in line
Been a fan but you completely lost me on your 1st suggestion this time. Bsftb is not even close To Wlw. You can't name a rye mash bill to compete with a wheater. This was extremely off and disappointing.
@thomasboyd7515 wlw is closer to sftb than nearly any wheater. Yeast strain, climate and barrel import more than mashbill. Blind em next to each other. It is far closer than something like a Larceny Barrel Proof or a old elk wheated bourbon.
Frankly I'd prefer to take the combined price of the 3 bottles shown and invest it in W.T. 101. I can drink more and possibly never run out. At least in the near term. No sacrificing quality for price here. Tha "Turk" is always good, acceptable & accessible. Money well spent!
Folks are starting to get it by now imo , things just take a while and marketing done well by Willett on the not so good Juice(they’re a business I guess😅)

Oh man. This sounds fun!
Great jacket, I had one of those in 1977… style.
Nice! And thank you!

Dang! That is actually really cool. I wish it was the case here.
That malted rye....sooo good! Cheers🥃😎

Great video and thanks for the suggestions~
Cheers buddy thank you 🥃
at this point I will take whatever I can get my hands on...
I am there with you buddy!
I gotta grab that malted rye. I found a KC18 and it's the best bourbon I've had to date, though I've never had BTAC pours.
I love both of those. So good.
To hell with all that, just give me the Btac please 😊😊😊. Cheers DB
Lol absolutely fair, and happy Thanksgiving

I would recommend Makers Cask Strength over those. Some Makers private selects are better than WLW.

I’ve had Handy and GTS. Handy was memorable. I’m just not a fan of high proof weaters. At all.

I agree. Eht, elmer and stagg are GREAT trade bait.
Why would you not say stagg jr for the GTS
I felt like that one was a bit obvious? Idk. Probably should have!
would like to see a poor man pappy recipe using the bernheim barrel proof
That is actually a really fun idea. I will look into this!

I agree that it’s different but I would also argue that WLW does NOT drink like a wheater - in my experience it’s like a softer low-rye bourbon

Total wine has the Willett 8 year purple top at $260 that’s a lot of money to me but I can afford it. Is it even worth that price?
Um in my opinion it’s not super great
WFE yes, that Dark one is not great imo and it’s 100$ max
