  • Hey
This was my first impression of the 2023 Motor Trend Truck of the Year,
the 2023 Ford Lightning Fully electric truck.
Here I talk about the different features on it, what are some of my favorite things about it and also, the one thing that I don't like about it.
I also compare it to two iconic cars from the past.

I've a lightning platinum. I've owned 8 F150's in my lifetime. Not including the lightning and this is the absolute best f150 that I've ever owned. Drives like a luxury car, get up and go like a sports car and will do everything any of my previous F150's would do. People complain about the range but never compare what it costs to drive that range compared to other F150's.
I can honestly say there are no other F150's that can drive as many miles that the lightning will go, for the same costs in gasoline. At $.08/kwh I average $4/100 miles. So even if gasoline dropped to $2/gallon, I'd still be getting the equivalent of 50 mpg. I've never owned an F150 that ever got 50 mpg.

Thank you very much for your input 👍🙂
Your opinion on it is very valuable since you have own so many other F150
I am glad that we share the same opinion on the truck
I 100% agree on the truck being Motor Trend Truck of the year

I don't believe we'll se $40k lightnings. I believe ford underpriced the lightning and why they had to raise the prices. I believe the Chevrolet and Ram electric trucks will be comparably priced to the lightning.
People have got to stop paying dealers over MSRP. I bought my lightning at MSRP, so I know there are dealers out there that still sell at MSRP or less.

I think you are right because I remember my friend telling me, that he spends about 30.00 dollars per month charging his car.

the $30.85 you paid made the effective MPG of the truck 12.84 because the cost per kWh was 60 cents. At home you can charge at about 15 cents per kWh so in effect you get 51.5 MPG when you charge at home. At a cost per gallon of $3.30. This summer when the cost per Gallon goes up to $5; the truck will effectively get 78 MPG.

I strictly charge at home, except for using FordPass complimentary 250 kwh from electrify america. If I had to depend on public chargers, I wouldn't have purchased my lightning. People who purchase the lightning to be used for long distance traveling or towing long distance will be disappointed. Not just because of the ridiculous costs per kwh, but also because the lack of working chargers for the lightning.

@@LincolnMaxnCo At home charging costs me $.08/kwh in winter & $.12/kwh in summer. Cold weather does effect its range, so I average $6 per 100 miles. At $3/gal for gas that's the equivalentcy of 50 mpg. Not bad for nearly a 7000 lb truck.
