MATERIALS USED: For this pattern I used approximately 375g of the 500g skein of 5mm braided macrame cord by Bobbiny in the colour Biscuit, and a 9mm hook. I have also included links for the tag I use as well down below.

I decided to teach myself how to crochet and didn't want to make granny squares and rather make something I can use, and I decided on this cute bag. It is such an easy and calm tutorial to follow. Thank you!

Love this project! Is it ok to use 4mm braided cord instead of 5mm? 5mm not available where I live !
Hello! Yes, 4mm would be perfectly fine, the bag will be a bit smaller but if you wanted to you could add a few more chains to the base to make it longer to compensate.♥️♥️♥️

This is the best tutorial. Totally new to crochet and I wanted to make something fairly uncomplicated and this fit the bill. The cording is a bit stiff to work with, but having completed this project in about 3 hours (remember, a totally new crocheter), I am so happy with this! Thanks for the tutorial.

Does this bag only uses 1 bobbiny 5mm yarn? Or do I need 2 yarns of the same color?

I’m so happy you like it! Yes, if you want it bigger add some extra chains, I’ve made a very large one for my mom and if I remember correctly (it was a while back) I think I doubled the chains. ♥️

You you can definitely make it bigger, just add more chains until you get the width you’d prefer. Measurements are down below in the description!♥️

Yes, that is correct! You can add how ever many until you get the desired size.

Thank you, I hope you enjoy it! & yes, I don’t see any reason why you couldn’t make it with premade handles, just skip the handle portion of the pattern and work up to the height you’d like, end with the invisible join and voila, should be great!♥️✨

Thank you so much! I used 375g of a 500g skein. Each skein is 328feet. I’m not sure exactly how many feet precisely as I didn’t pull it apart to measure it unfortunately! I’d estimate about 230ish feet. ♥️♥️♥️

Would it be okay to use 6mm macrame cord? I couldn't find 5mm at the store.
Absolutely, you can make this with just about any thick yarn or cords!♥️
If I use a 3mm cord, how much smaller do you think it will be? I don't mind small, I just only have 246yds of a color and looking for something to make.
I loved this tutorial so much, it is so elegant yet simple to do and as a beginner so easy to follow. My one thing is I can’t figure out why my bag is so small, I am under 9 inches for width it’s basically 8inches wide lol. I’m trying not to crochet so tight but looser isn’t working either! Should I try with a larger hook???

So is it a certain type of yarn that I suppose to use for the handbags. My yarn isn't taking shape as I go around and around instead it's becoming a big oval like circle.

Hi Krystle, there are details on the month of cord used as well as much more helpful information in the description below. But to give a quick answer, no, this pattern uses the majority of a skein. You won’t get 2 bags from a single skein. ♥️

I’ve made one about 4x the size to carry my crochet supplies and projects to travel, parks, beaches, etc. I will say the bag itself did get quite heavy! ☺️

You will probably want a think one, or to double up etc to get a thicker, or the bag may be smaller, but that might be really cute too! ☺️♥️

I used lion brand lazy days yarn for a tote slightly larger than this, it took 2 skeins

Hi! I just started this bag using the same yarn and needle size you used. I have completed the base and one row. My bag measures 9 inches and your bag was 10 inches. Maybe I crochet tighter than you? Do you have any suggestions to make my bag a little bit bigger? Thanks if you have time to answer this for me!
If you watch the video we do expand past the first chains to create the base, it does get wider! ♥️

Hi Tamara, yes, it will absolutely work! If you are working with this same cord, I use 8,9, or 10mm with it. The stiches will just be a bit smaller and tighter, which is actually quite beautiful for this pattern I find! ♥️♥️♥️

What is a substitute for the Bobbiny macrame cord? I don't live in Canada.
I ship to USA as well, not sure if that helps, but if you google restocked in your country there will be at least a few. Otherwise I would find something sturdy and similar in size.
I make other crochet items will try these soon.

Can you recommend a cord similar to the cord you used as it’s not available in Australia and cannot be shipped from Canada to Australia
There are Bobbiny suppliers in Australia and or you can order directly from their site. Shipping can be quite expensive so I recommend a simple Google search for a local distributor. ♥️I believe it may even be available on Amazon in many countries now as well!
