However, they find out that the ad was put up with Babita's consent and they even have her signatures on the agreement. The show is inspired by the famous humorous column 'Duniya Ne Oondha Chashma' written by the eminent Gujarati writer Mr. Tarak Mehta. This story evolves around happenings in "Gokuldham Co-operative Society" and covers topical issues that are socially relevant. The show predominantly - revolves around Jethalal (Dilip Joshi) who is an uneducated Gujarati businessman. Tarak Mehta (Sailesh Lodha), is his neighbor. Jethalal finds a friend and philosopher in Tarak Mehta and often goes to him for advice whenever he is in trouble. Jethalal's family includes his simpleton wife Daya Ben (Disha Wakani) and a mischievous son Tapu (Bhavya Gandhi). Tapu is a menace and a constant source of trouble to all the members residing in the Gokuldham Society. They have often warned Jethalal to reform Tapu or else be prepared to leave the premises. Assuming you pass the first test of linguistics, let’s measure your knowledge about cinematic principles and techniques. In ‘tmkoc’, a surreal comedy, the humor is predicated on deliberate violations of casual reasoning, producing events and behavior that are obviously illogical. So we have a die-hard honest, never accepts a bribe inspector, whose encounters with the members of Gokuldham usually involves intense conflict of forces and emotions. The humor derived gets its appeal from the ridiculousness and unlikeliness of the situation. The desperate inspector is almost begging to be given a chance to solve the case for the first time. This is because Gokuldham in the past, have always solved the cases themselves, leaving the poor inspector with no credit to his record. That is why inspector Pandey in his frustrations, many a times makes outlandish utterances, and his behavior is also sometimes extremely bizarre. He utters things like at 1:16, “Please don't touch Gunehgar”, or at 4:22 “Yeh haath nahin, hathkadi hai, samjha” or his Takia Kalam, “Mera Naam hai Chalu Pandey, Jhoot bologe toh padege dandey”. At 6:33 when Jethalal stupidly raises his hands, Pandey is so relieved that Jethalal is not involved in solving the case, that in his exhilaration, he gives him a high five! Lol. I mean which inspector does that in a crime investigation?
When Chunky is asked repeatedly to name his accomplice and doesn’t respond, Pandey is totally upset, and overcome by frustrations, makes a slip of the tongue, and calls himself Chunky at 2:28. The writers of this show are placing two things side by side by producing incongruous effects to contrast and create an interesting and irrational juxtaposition. For example, at 7:04 when Jethalal says, “Mai batata hoon iska saathi kaun hai”, inspector Pandey is immediately troubled and worried sick that Jethalal will solve the case. The infuriated inspector lashes out at Jethalal and screams, “Simon go back! Jethalal go back!” *NYC Denali, I wonder if you understood the comic element in that particular inspector’s statement.* On the one hand the inspector makes a slip of the tongue and then on the other hand he quotes a serious slogan ‘Simon go back’ which was an important historical moment, in the fight for independence of India. That is surrealist juxtaposition at its best.
If you are still unable to comprehend the depth of the reasoning provided above, let’s see if you can pass the third test. You’ve proved that your auditory organs are normal and you feel that whatever you heard and perceived is correct. Now let’s check if you have normal visual acuity, that the clarity and sharpness of the vision of the image you saw and perceived was crisp and in focus. So watch the video carefully when Chalu stops the members from attacking Chunky. The Gokuldham members question Chunky who is hesitant to respond. That’s when Chalu Pandey at 2:11 begins to say, bolo bolo twice and then one more time, and getting frustrated, seeing that Chunky is not answering any questions, Chalu Pandey now wants an answer to his own question. So, exactly at 2:29 the inspector *pokes his fingers on his chest* and says, “Chunky Pandey tumse pooch raha hai bolo”. In South Asian countries, almost all people point their fingers to themselves when they intend to mean their own self. This is a fundamental action done in sincerity whether in character and or utterance. So, when one means himself and says, ‘I or mai or mujhe or mereko”, they do not point their fingers towards the other guy. This clearly indicates the inspector meant ‘himself’ but got mixed up with the first names and a slip of the tongue occurred, and that obviously has a comical effect. In the reception of the images in your eye, I believe, your mind failed to properly detect the nerve signals transmitted to your brain.
