Rajaji National Park is a protected area located in the foothills of the Himalayas in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. It covers an area of 820.42 square kilometers and is known for its diverse wildlife and scenic beauty. The park is home to elephants, tigers, leopards, bear, deer and many species of birds. It also contains a variety of vegetation, including sal forests, pine forests, and grasslands. The park is named after C. Rajagopalachari, a freedom fighter and the last Governor-General of India. It is open to visitors from November to June and offers a range of activities such as wildlife safaris, nature walks and bird watching.
Rajaji National Park is a combination of three wildlife sanctuaries, namely Rajaji, Motichur and Chilla, which were merged in 1983 to form the park. The park is situated in the Shivalik range of the Himalayas and is spread across the districts of Haridwar, Dehradun, and Pauri Garhwal. The park is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna, and is considered as one of the most important protected areas in the country.
The park is known for its elephant population, and it is estimated that there are around 600 elephants in the park. Apart from elephants, the park also has a healthy population of tigers, leopards, and bears. The park also provides a home to a wide variety of deer species such as sambar, chital, and hog deer.
The park also boasts of a rich birdlife, and more than 315 species of birds have been recorded in the park. Some of the birds found in the park include the great hornbill, the black stork, and the white-rumped vulture.
The park offers a range of activities for visitors, including jeep safaris, elephant safaris, and nature walks. Visitors can also go for bird watching and wildlife photography. The park also has a number of rest houses and camping sites where visitors can stay.
