    You are correct. My Chocolate Burmese (Portia) had a seat next to me when I was studying, would sit on the toilet and watch me every morning when I was shaving and I would sing to her, very clingy and stay with me on the bed when I got depressed. I do miss her after being with me for 19 years. I'm getting a Lilac Burmese in 5 weeks and can't wait. Thank You for sharing.

      My Burmese was my best friend ever (though I have had many rescue cats and several purebreds). I love how they do everything with you! I had to put a litter box in my bathroom, because he couldn’t bear it if I went in and closed the door. Meal prep, cleaning…we did everything together!

    Spot on! My burmese has the exact same traits. I got her as a full grown adult with very little handling and she's still the kindest, most social cat I've ever owned. I never want to own another breed now.
    Oh and they have so few health problems! Very healthy little cats

    Your description sounds just like my Burmese. He forms very strong bonds with only family, including other cats. We used to foster cats and kittens and he would mourn for them very deeply after they left, so we are taking a break from that for him, among other reasons, right now. He is the most loving, affectionate cat I have ever known. When he sleeps on top of me, he puts his paw or paws in my hand, squeeze my finger, etc. He’s the only cat I’ve had who knows how to hold hands. He has brought so much joy to my life that I don’t mind buying all the medications and fluid bags he needs since his kidneys failed a year and a half ago. I want to be with him as long as possible. Burmese are such wonderful companions.

      Britta Olson it’s the mercury in the fish that is in all of the cat food that causes kidney failure in cats.

    • @sciencenotstigma9534
      @sciencenotstigma9534 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@elsagrace3893 My cat died of kidney disease, but he never ate cat food. I cooked him whole meats. In his case, we used a flea product sold in the US, Hartz flea spot treatment. It is still being sold, as before. We later learned it has caused kidney failure and death in many cats. Our cat was treated right away, because he was having seizures. He survived acute kidney failure, but developed CRF (chronic renal failure), which he had for years before he passed. Researching all cat foods and medicine is so important, especially in countries with few consumer safety regulations! We always look at product safety, nutrition content, reviews, and recalls now!

    Beautiful Cat. I have a Platinum Burmese, American type. She is a very smart and unique cat. Great companions. I agree with all of your comments. They follow you everywhere and are smart. I had another Platinum and she lived almost 20 years. I never feed my cat grain. Any food with grain, I was told by a vet, is more work for the kidneys. Take your cat to the vet for checkups! Nice video. Liked and Subscribed. I really like the sounds they make. In direct sunlight my cat's eyes are golden colored.

      Angela Hampson Yes, they do make good family pets. They are active and love running around, which is fun for kids. For example, when we’ve done things like clean or move furniture, the other cats run and hide, but my Burmese gets excited and runs around, following me to be a part of the action. They are very social and love other cats. They form very strong bonds. They are perfect for families!

  • @charlesmcgehee3227

    I have another couple of comments to make about these beautiful Burmese cats. I got mine as a kitten and they love to play with you. Be careful not to teach the cat to play too hard with your hands. As they grow it will be hard to change that habit. And a Burmese can be a very physically fast and strong cat. I agree with you that they are very loyal and if you go out, they are waiting for you at the door ready to be greeted. The more love you offer this breed I promise you will have a very loving companion for life. Although foods that are grain free can be a tiny bit more costly, it is worth it. I see that your cat loves you very much. When they roll around and show their bellies, this is a sign of great trust. They really are talkative little cats. You have done a good job raising your cat. And thank you for the nice little acknowledgement of my previous note.

    • @LenaMatildaCats
      @LenaMatildaCats  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Charles McGehee yes, Matilda gets bitey sometimes. For her it’s all play, but she can actually hurt. What food brand do you feed? We’ve been trying different brands because our Russian Blue is so picky. Matilda will just eat anything, she’s a honey badger really 😹😻

    Beautiful cat! One small correction: Burmese cats aren't heavy for their size because they have "heavy bones". It's because they are by far one of the most naturally muscular breeds of cats. Muscle is far more dense (and heavier) than fat of the same volume, so that's why Burmese cats are so surprisingly heavy for their size when you pick one up.
    I totally agree that they're the puppies of the cat world. We used to have one and he would play fetch with a ball made of aluminium foil, just like a dog. You're right too that they are super affectionate and that they show it far more than other cats. Ours would be waiting for us at the front door every day when we arrived home, and then he would sit with us and follow us around the house just like a puppy. I miss having a Burmese, if I ever get a cat again, it will definitely be a Burmese.

    • @LenaMatildaCats

      tbirdparis I love them, too, and agree with all of that. I have a photo of my gorgeous Burmese wearing a fluffy baby blue bow, as a kitten, and chewing on a large bone. He has always loved whole meats and meat on the bone (although I don’t do poultry bones, because they’re dangerous). He has always followed us around like that, too, and if we’re doing something active or noisy in the house he will be getting in on the action and running around following us, watching, while the other cats hide.

      Mine is a fairly small Cat and weighs around 9 lbs. I am careful with the amount of food I give her. Good analogy of these being the puppies of the cat world. Mine obeys. Comes to me when I call and really loves to "talk" when I am on the phone. She purrs like a car engine. Really loud sometimes.

    We have a Russian blue (poppy) and a chocolate (champagne) Burmese (Lily), just like you. Loved this video, in fact Lilyis watching right now 😄, if we have visitors the Russian Blue runs, but the Burmese is everybodies friend, that’s the only thing different to everything you described. We love your channel as we have two identical cats, the big difference is our RussianBlue hates our Burmese, it’s quite sad, the Burmese wants to be her friend but the Russian spits and growls every time the Burmese appears. We keep thinking we should post a video of them both not getting on, would love to see a similar video like this one about your Russian Blue. Oops just realised that you have done a video about your Russian Blue 👍😄

    • @LenaMatildaCats
      @LenaMatildaCats  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Isn't it the perfect cat combo? Such a pity they don't get along though! Did you introduce them as adults? My pair is super bonded, like sisters. I had the Russian Blue a couple of months earlier and then introduced the Burmese. They were both still kittens, so in around a week they were all loved up. It may be that my Russian Blue is particularly mellow, she's very accepting and friendly. Even with our baby, I need to remove her or she lets the baby grab her and just stays there belly up. Here is the video about my Russian Blue: th-cam.com/video/aLXjL-qNW0I/w-d-xo.html

    • @Rlea67
      @Rlea67 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      we’ve had cats for years and never had any issues introducing a new cat, we always have three, we also have a tabby ( who is 20 and very private), we first bought our Russian Blue as a kitten, she bonded with our Abssyinian cross who was deaf from birth and already at that point was 14 and had never had a cat friend, it was so sweet that she finally had this Russian blue kitten who loved her, our abssynian (amber) lived to the great age of 23, but sadly passed in 2017, the Russian (poppy) missed her greatly, we left it 6 months then bought our Burmese kitten (lily), so at this point we had a very loving Russian Blue who was 7 yrs old and we’d never heard her spit our growl so we assumed she’d mother the Burmese kitten, how wrong we were, it’s been a year now, we’ve tried all sorts of re-introduction techniques but the Russian doesn’t like the Burmese, it’s so sad cos the Burmese wants to play, but the Russian just spits and growls at her, we still have our Tabby and we are not sure on the next move, considering either another Russian kitten or perhaps a Burmese kittten or just a regular black and white rescue kittten, it sad that they don’t get along as they are both identical in looks and temperament to Lena and Matilda, it’s the complete opposite of their relationship. I guess we don’t get to choose how animals react, but we’ll keep trying.

      Johnson Ave yes our Poppy runs as soon as she hears the door bell, she sits half way up the stairs to see who has arrived, she is very loving to both of us, but avoids everybody else other than our cat sitter, i find the Russians very loyal but private, the Burmese is everybodies friend, she plays endlessly and wants to spend every minute with us, I thikn in a way she’s pushed the Russia out a bit and that’s part of the problem

    I would like to have a burmese cat, but I have one concern. I had a rescue cat once who was a blue point, and was obviously siamese or burmese, genetically. That kat would come into the bedroom iin the middle of the night and meow, waking me up. I couldn't get him to stop that habit so I had to find him a new home. I'm retired now and don't have to worry about working in the day time, but I wouldn't particularly want to be awaken in the middle of the night. Was that behavior typical for the burmese?

    • @LenaMatildaCats
      @LenaMatildaCats  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sometimes she will do it if she has a reason, for example if there is a closed door, she will howl or if I move too much (she sleeps on my legs) she will get up and howl again. She can be calmed down with lots of petting and hugs, but I'm not going to lie, they are very high maintenance cats

    There's a fair number of black American short hairs I've seen, and were staff for, with Burmese characteristics. Oliver, the latest was rescued at four years old, from a semi feral life style and un-neutered. He is sociable, but he acts like he has been around an angry/stupid human or two. I got him as company for Rodger, who also has a strange past. He is serengeti shaped, but has some stripes with his spots, and snowshoe feet. He's long, tall, skinny, and a formidable peresence. His friend would need to be someone hard to intimidate. Oliver filled that requirement. They play and wrestle. No fur flies nor blood spills. I hope they both stick around for a long time.
    Best to you and your family two, and four legged.

    Just like my cat. Not exactly Burmese but because she was closely related crossbreed (champagne but with longer fur) and had the exact same traits. Always loyal to me more than anyone else in the family. I was a away for a while my uncle was looking after her and noticed she was a bit teary eyed or sometimes a bit anxious. When I got back he noticed her behaviour change like night and day, particularly when she jumped up into my arms without me prompting her. I felt a bit guilty after it was explained how depressed she got. I ended up getting her a buddy to play with and they were almost inseparable but I always took priority, of course.
    I would advise anyone to get their Burmese cat or Burmese-like cat a buddy or a sibling as it will take the edge off either of them being lonely, anxious or depressed when you are away, even if only for a day.

    Where do you go to find reputable breeders?

      Randy Alan Jones look at the associations that register breeders, like cat fancy at cfa.org. Then do a little more digging to make sure you’re happy with how the breeder operates.

      @@LenaMatildaCats I have never purchased a full-blooded cat but I think I would like to get one. My dog passed away and I am thinking due to some health issues a cat may be the best fit for me. So I am looking a dog-like cat that lives a long time and will be with me all the time. I want a cat that will go for walks with me and other places. It seems that the Burmese will do most of that from my research. Any advice you have would be great!

      In my opinion the Burmese is a fabulous companion. You just have consider It’s very needy and active, it needs companionship and play time. Mine for example play bites sometimes. It’s also a loud cat, so be prepared for that. It’s high maintenance in that sense that it needs a lot of attention. It’s not a cat that will just be around and mind it’s own business. Of course, each cat is a unique personality, but overall those are the high level traits. I absolutely adore my Burmese, had her for 5 years and I still cannot believe sometimes how sweet she is.

    I’d like to know how these cats do with access to outdoors such as a ranch. Are they good hunters of rodents? Do they enjoy free time alone roaming?

      elsa Grace I’ll pin your comment for someone with experience to answer. My cats are indoors only, so I can’t help with the specific question. 👍

      Hey there! As an answer to your question, Burmese cats would be fine in a ranch in my opinion, I have two Indoor and Outdoor Burmese and they are fine.
      Burmese do demand a lot of attention though, so make sure you play with them lots! They can be like dogs in terms of play activity.

      I can confirm these cats do well at hunting and roaming, My cat lives in Australia and has an open large property to roam around including the surrounding area, also very good at hunting and catching wildlife (not always kills). He brought a live baby bush turkey in one time that we had to chase outside.

      This is maybe a repeat comment but I read an article by a Vet once that said field mice are the ideal meal for a cat. I'd not let my cat roam outside. But if the area is safe from predator's that seems like a beautiful life for a cat. To roam, hunt and then come home for head rubs and warmth and Love.

      @@charlesmcgehee3227 In my experience, a Burmese Cat would catch a mouse and then just stare at it. "Not in a bowl? What now?" 😂
