Thank you all for your lovely comments, they have meant a lot to me and the rest of the team. Being a lalafell warrior of light causes so many amazing inspirational moments during the msq, the tiny character overcoming such insane odds is so satisfying and touching
The short, cute races are always underestimated in fantasy lore, and yet, when you look at them as individuals and as collective races, always go hard in their respective lore, and the potatoes of sea and desert are no exception
I feel attacked since im a lalafell in a friend FC and im the richest out of everyone considering i only have like 3 million in total compared to my friends
Especially if you are an RPer, it's not uncommon to find in-character venues and events that don't allow lalafells because someone is terrified of the off-chance that someone might initiate erotic rp with one at their venue. They don't even look like children unless you gave birth to a mutant potato, yet people continually treat them like lolifells.
I have a theory that Elezen and Lalafell are related, not just because of the ears but also their fair appearance and fine features. My theory is they share a common ancestor with Elezen (or perhaps descended from Elezen themselves) that under Foster's Rule were subject to insular dwarfism to adapt to their island homes. When you compare Lalafell to their smol counterparts in other media such as Gnomes (which are usually cousins to the Dwarves) or Halflings (which are smol humans with weird feet) they really do have a distinct elf-ish quality to them.
Fascinating idea. With how little we know about the first astral era and before, it’s hard to say how long the source has been around and how much races have had a normal evolutionary track in any capacity. The First showing that to some extent the shards are in line with each other evolutionarily. Lalafell being found in the isles south of eorzea where the elezen are native to could be used as grounds of support though one could also see it as suggesting they are from Meracydia. Great point on their more eleven features compared to western fantasy short races.
@@TheEorzeanArchives I can imagine with all the tribes it would be quite the undertaking. Regardless I look forward to all the future videos. Goodluck with all the work that lies ahead!
i'm still slightly mad that neither the Wanderer's Palace or Mhach show no signs whatsoever that they were largely inhabited by Lalafell. i know they're both dungeons, so the scaling is always gonna be cranked up to make them feel cool and imposing, but they just don't have that vibe that they were built around a smaller race, nor do they feature any statues or other depictions of Lalafell on the walls or anything. i think it would've been a really cool hint towards the Scholar questline to have the tonberry-infested Wanderer's Palace have murals of Lalafellin warriors and mages on the walls, maybe even having one wearing the same baggy brown robes as the tonberries tucked off in a corner somewhere! i just hope, if we ever do get to go to the South Sea Isles, they put as much effort into it as they did Thavnair and the two Lalafellin towns we see in Shadowbringers.
"Some Lalafell are meant for the mines and riches of Ul'dah, other's the briny docks of Limsa. Then there's me. A Dunesfolk who's only good at wield'n an axe, and raging like an angry ram."-Rarajuka Sesejuka (My WOL lala warrior) Being a Lalafell in the MSQ is...interesting. Some moments are made even greater by the fact your so small, others....not so much...but....I love it all the same. :) Keep your head held high my fellow Lalafell. We maybe tiny, but we are mighty.
I'm surprised you didn't explain exceptions to the naming rule, like royal houses, or how to tell if lalas are related by name. I pronounce a few of those civilization names differently, but other than that, very enjoyable! -Jack Daloots (Jajakutu Dadalutu) of Big Lala Energy
All absolutely important things that came up in research and writing but since the videos are meant as primers to help give people a jumping off point rather than an all encompassing video to avoid a deluge of minutiae they ended up being cut. For instance there is so much more to be said about the sultanate and the relationship between sil dih and ul dah, the steps of sasamo etc but that’s worthy of its own video. As for the pronunciation I desperately wish there was documented cases of some names being spoke even if only by koji, I know my best take on them may grate to others. Thanks for the comment and thoughts.
@@sariarosegold Right. She wouldve changed her name much like Viera and such adopt their "City names" when they move in with the other races. Also, technically did mention interclan marriage but Teledji is an interesting example of such, as he has Plainsfolk features from his father but the Dunesfolk name of his mother and native Ul'dah
@@NazuikoI imagine Teledji’s case is one of status, class, station, and wealth. Her mother being a native and I presume a wealthy merchant likely influenced the lineage of his name.
What an interesting video to stumble across! I created Memechi Mechi on the Famfrit server after skimming the lore and finding the right naming conventions, but never had the time to dig deeper... The connection to Mhach isn't something I had thought about! Thanks for creating this, I'm definitely gonna look around at the other videos now
The thing I find special about my Lala is that despite the Lala's origins in La Noseca and Ul'dah...mine prefers the comfort of Gridania. The lush forests and tranquility (not to mention a lot of natural cover for smaller folk like her) just seems to ring true to her. That said, it's good to see overall how Lalas fit in the lore and where they came from~ Signed, a fellow Lala, Nora Wilbark (Norara Nora)~
fun fact: relative to size lalafell are the strongest and fastest among all races. a lalafell the same size as a hrothgar could absolutely pummel said hrothgar in to the ground without problems
started FFXIV today, playing alongside my dad and boyfriend. we have been fans of the series for a long time and im so excited to play as a Lalafell (im 4'10, so naturally this was made for me😂)
Mind you lalafell have forward facing eyes meaning there predators during their evolution before they became civilized and with their short faces it means that they never needed to get into the cavity aka hole of there prey that they just killed. To eat them they just ripped and tore everything even skin and bone. While they are small easily picked off by bigger prey they are agile which could mean they are ambush pack predators falling on their prey and when the prey was killed they could swarm in like a pack of falling piranha pototoes.
Wait. Their origin place were islands? Does this mean that they are so small due to *island dwarfism*? Cause if that's intentional that's amazing detail haha.
@@mad_max21 untrue. Pipin at least doesnt have an evil bone in his body. Krile is mischievous at best. Tataru....well Tataru might be evil but she uses her evil powers for good.

I’m going to find some way some how to work “the potatoes of sea and desert” into a video -Elioaux
I've always loved how underestimating Lalafells has pretty always been a trap that both players and characters in-game fall into.
Key features of being a Lalafell. Get rich, be rich, gloat and laugh at the mountain height cats/bunnies/people as they attempt to make a meager wage.

Good theory!!
What a great video. It provided information in such an enjoyable and understandable way. Can't wait to see more on the races like the Au Ra.

So quick question, do lalafells get wrinkly when they get old like everyone else or do they just grow facial hair but stay cute?
Well, if we go by the auspice quest in stormblood they do get wrinkly when they get old enough but we have only seen one instance of this. -Elioaux

forgot to add that the best way to tell if a lalafell is male or female is that male lala's ears have dark tips, females dont
