Don’t damage your equipment. I have the allett buckingham 30h .. many people on TH-cam show the paper cut test and that’s misleading. If you must use paper, double it up or use a business card size, once you get a clean cut, you are good to go. I use a feeler gauge to determine the spacing between reel and bed knife (read your manual to get the gap) and that’s all you need… when the reel spins Centrifugal force gets the reel closer to the bed knife for a perfect cut….
Hi due the bed knjfe beung curved. Theres no need to use paper cutting for adjustment. Reel adjustment. Austin showed me a way to adjust the reel for the Stirling. Works amazingly. It doesn't involve cutting paper. Essentially use mower in well lit area. Keep kids and pets out of garden. Spin the reel on the lawn looking at the bed knife after backing off the reel from the bed knife. Now push the mower on the grass and you'll see the grass blades on the bed knife as the reel spins. At this point adjust the reel screw one click at a time till you see the grass being cut on all parts of the bed knife without being laid over the bed knife. When no more grass is being laid over the bed knife, you're fully adjusted. Reel is quiet, cuts well and rotates freely. Forget paper cutting. It is a more dangerous way but take extreme care. I tried it and it absolutely the way. Please don't be tempted to adjust the reel with the reel spinning. Give it a go and keep me posted. Best wishes
I have the exact same thing with my Stirling 43. I'm going to back it off a click or 2 and cut the grass to see what it looks like. My other thought was to backlap again. Let me know what your solution was.
This is what frustrates the hell out of me about Allett. Even California trimmer doesn’t have this issue, maybe because it uses an actual bed knife. Makes me want to invest in a true greens mower
th-cam.com/video/4LCsu4n67o8/w-d-xo.html Allett rep tells GCI that it's meant to give a clean cut backed off.. the paper cut position creates too much friction and it's not meant for that

is there a video about this act?
It would suggest that the bed knife or the reel are either not straight or out of shape

Can you backlap these machines on a toro or Jacobsen you would back lap them to marry the two blade surfaces
You can and it fixes issues sometimes but the issues return with time.
Did you ever resolve this? I have the same issue.
Allett sent me a new reel replacement.
