"Faculty think they're special unicorns, that they're not workers. We have to change that way of thinking." - Todd Wolfson
    Couldn't have said it better.

"We need worker's councils running those institutions." I fundamentally agree, but we should also not forget that students need a voice as well.

We have that in Brazil. Our public universities have elections for Dean and inside institutes with participation of technicians, theachers and students!

It's not though. As someone who personally knows a low-level administrator who's quitting his job at Rutgers because he's been working insane hours for a below-living-wage paycheck, this ennnnnntiiiiiiiiiire segment is bullshit. This guy is making 50k a year, after insurance, pension, disability, and life insurance (which are mandatory to pay into) and his union dues, he only makes 35k and change a year. The median income in NJ for a single adult is 81k a year and he's making less than half of that. And he does the administrative work of six people. Even after this new deal that Rutgers' union made, and that Jacobin and Democracy Now! are slobbering over, he's still stuck in this same situation so he had to quit. The Rutgers deal sold people like him down the river. Some features of the deal:
      1) Faculty didn't have to furlough, staff did
      2) Furlough pay only applied to people who exclusively worked at Rutgers, so staff at Rutgers who are so underpaid that they have to work 2d jobs didn't get furlough payments
      3) Faculty didn't allow meaningful staff participation or leadership on this at all and hijacked entire process
"Labor Paul" should talk to actual workers instead of just union bureaucrats.
