Every tyre has an imprinted alphanumeric DOT code where the last four numbers on one side of the sidewall represent its manufacturing year. The first two digits of the four numbers denote the week of manufacturing while the latter two represent the year. For instance, a DOT code on a random tyre is DOT 6l Y5 006X 2118. The last four digits - 2118 - represent the manufacturing period of the tyre; 21 is the number of weeks and 18 is the manufacturing year. So this tyre rolled out between May 21, 2018 and May 27, 2018 (21st week of 2018).
Besides affecting the vehicle performance, the age of the tyre is also important when you claim your tyre warranty. If the dealer sold you a tyre manufactured a year ago, your standard warranty (depending on tyre maker) will be counted from the date of purchase. However, if you lose the bill then you have no proof to show your purchasing date. In this case, the warranty would be considered from the date of manufacturing! That’s a loss of 2 years in the warranty.
Load index is the maximum weight that each tyre of your vehicle can carry at the maximum speed limit given by the manufacturer. It is generally denoted by a two or three digit numbers that represent the load bearing limit of each tyre and is found mentioned on the sidewall of your tyre between the diameter reading and the speed rating.

Aapki baat sahi hai bilkul. Koi paisa dega to purana kyun lega. But tyre ki shelf life 5 to 7 yrs hoti hai agar sahi position aur conditions mein rakha jaaye. Jaise ki tyre hamesha standing position mein rakhna chahiye. Ek ke ooper ek rakhne se kharab hota hai. Direct dhoop aur baarish se door rakho taaki uski elasticity na khatam ho. 👍👍❤️❤️

1] agar thoda edge par rim rust hua hai tho kya sand paper se rust nikalkar,baad mein oil paint maara kar scooter par laga diya aur use kiya tho kya yeh safe hoga ya crack aakar rim tootne ka khatra ho sakta hai. yeh tyre activa ka hai.
2] btw when we shud replace tyre rim(Activa mein) kya kabhi replace karne ki jaroorat bhi hai if its not rusted?

Week ko 4 se divide kare . Aapko nearest month samaj me ayega. 26 se jyada week hai to pahale usame 26 minus kare aur remainder ko 4 se divide kare. Sahe month nikal jayega.

New tyre has distinctive smell , rubber is very supple and soft . They don't shine .Old stock rubber tends to harden up and has shiny surface . Tyree's have natural aging and should always be replaced every 5 years form date of mfg . Most comercial tyres do have anti aging formulation to keep them running for 20 plus years

I just have one question.. Since the front and rear tyres are different on my motorbike.. Do we add the load capacity of both the tyres to understand how much total weight is safe to carry? Or just the rear?

पर सरजी आज कल बाजार में नये टायर के नाम पर रिसोलिंग टायर थमा देते हैँ इसे कैसे पहचानना हैं वो भी बतायें तो मजा आएगा, मैं टाटा मोटर्स क्वालिटी विभाग से हूं, पिछले महीने मेरे बेटे ने अपनी डिओ बाइक की टायर चेंज करवाई सर्विस सेंटर वालों ने रिसोलिंग टायर लगा कर पूरे पैसे भी वसूल लिए, घर आने पर मैंने चेक किया और सर्विस सेंटर वालों की मां बहन एक कर दी, पूरे पैसे वापस किये, और माफ़ी भी मांगी, क्योंकि मामला पुलिस का हो जाता. इसीलिए मेरी ओर से आपको धन्यवाद.
