Thanks for coming out to Provo guys. I know it wasn’t the result you hoped for but hope you had a good trip and hope our people treated you with hospitality.
Wow, no credit whatsoever to BYU? Maybe, just maybe, the BYU defense is legitimate. This BYU defense held SMU to 5 field goals at SMU even though our offense put them in some really bad positions. BTW that SMU team just scored 66 points on TCU today. 66 points!
It appears the atmosphere at Lavell Edwards Stadium was a learning experience for a young Avery Johnson. Going forward we hope all the best for this budding young star.
BYU fan here. The real Kstate did not come out to play tonight. It's hard to play at BYU. 60,000 plus fans going crazy is challenging. Kstate is gonna come back and win a lot of games. They gave BYU a lot of plays. Ya'll are gonna be okay this year. Avery is going to bounce back. But shout out to BYU. Their D is huge! And Moa is a freak'in bulldozer. Chase Roberts is a pro caliber receiver. And Jake Retzlaff was able to protect the ball and make some amazing throws.
BYU is 24-1 in the last 25 night games. BYU usually wins one game they should lose, and lose one game they should win every year. KSU is better than the score depicts.
What happened is K State had a young QB who looked like a deer in the headlights. I don't think teams realize how hard it is to play in Provo at night.
I gave BYU no chance, but this game reminded me of the Texas game when Taysom Hill got Mack Brown fired. Teams that have never been out here really have no idea what it's like. Bobby Bowden and Gary Patterson are the only coaches east of the mountain time zone in history that I've seen get their players properly prepared for Provo After Dark.
BYU fan here. I think looking at the total yards in the game that we were hindered in those stats because of the short yard field positions our defense and special teams were able to get. I think that if we erased those or had longer fields that our offense would have been able to get another 1-2 touchdowns in place of the short field ones. Leading to a lower total score for BYU but still a good offensive performance. You can only gain the yards in front of you. BYU defense is LEGIT! Super excited to have such a dominant defense again. Avery Johnson is going to be a Heisman finalist in a couple years, calling it right now. I am happy with Retzlaff growth, but hope in the future we can get more guys like Avery cuz he’s electric. Been fond of K-State for a couple years now, will keep rooting for you guys going forward. Classy fans and program. Good luck the rest of the season.
Weirdest 6 minutes of football I’ve ever seen to go down 4 TDs. Provo, the game atmosphere and their fans were great! My first road game outside bowl games and I’m going to have PTSD! KSTATE needs to fix things and fix it fast!
Yep and there were a lot of them. Byu didn't score a single touchdown where they had to start on their side of the field. And every time Kstate drove across the field they had a drive killing penalty inside the 10 or 15 yd line, plus 2 that negated 2 actual tds. Add in the defensive score and a crazy muffed punt turned touchdown and it was that kind of night.
It is always tough to play on the road. Avery Johnson is still a young QB. This is his first loss. Let's not pick him apart for one off game. Back to work. Lots of football left to play. Credit too to BYU..I used to shoot a lot of pool. I watched a game once and One guy lost a game and said, "I beat my self" the other guy responded. "What were you playing with yourself?" 😂
All three phases crapped the bed! This was not just a close loss on the road. This was an embarrassing ass kicking and there needs to be accountability.
BYU fan here. This was a strange game. What happened to K state against BYU could happen to anyone if you turn the ball over. Very small margin of error in this conference and college football in general.
I thought Matt Wells was supposed to help Connor Reilly sort out how to be an effective OC. Heading into this season with a brand new QB and OC had me feeling a little uncertain. I wish we could have picked up a proven OC from a smaller program. I give BYU all the credit in the world for being prepared for this game. Their RB is a stud and they were far and away the better team.
To imply that BYU “played out of their mind” rather than being a great team tonight is childish. You saw the SMU score. This defense is really freaking good and deserve some respect after that beatdown
Throw into that the BYU apologists who always seem to come out of the woodwork thinking they are the Dudley do-rights who seem to think it is their Duty to console the opposition🤔
BYU still had to score TDs vice FGs, and short fields ultimately hurt their O stats. Also, when D and STs score, that takes away from additional offensive possessions. Something losing teams rarely consider. BYU's D took over the game and KSU couldn't stop BYU from expanding leads.
Time to respond, period. Got our ass kicked flat out. Season ain’t over all of a sudden either. Time to respond next Saturday at home. Back to work! 😈🏈
@@bogota83 Well said. It happens to nearly every team, every year. You guys will be just fine. Johnson is going to be an absolute BEAST over his career as he grows. Kid’s only 19 and with his skills and speed the sky is the limit for that dude. Not looking forward to playing against him once he’s come in to his own.
It was given to BYU? Looked more like BUY smacked KState and KState didn't respond. So I would say BUY took it from KState. Give credit where credit is due, sour grapes are not a good look.
KState didnt give anything to BYU. BYU forced the turnovers which earned them the short fields. If the script was flipped you wouldn’t be saying the same thing. Give credit where credit is due.
All the credit in the world to BYU for showing up to play tonight. That said, this staff has a 5 year track record of being incapable of doing anything resembling clock management. We saw it in the Arizona game with the inability to get a field goal before half. We saw it again last night. We get the ball back with 2 plus minutes minutes remaining in the second quarter and looked like we could care less about moving the ball. Clock is running and running, the announcer even said, "well it looks like has no desire to try to score before half.". Or however he said it. Then we just had the ball off on rule right with a minute and a half left. Not running any kind of 2 minute drill. No urgency to get down the field. DJ fumbles and they run it back. Ok. At that point you could just go into half and say. "Guys we dominated the first half, stalled out and kicked a couple field goals, then got a bad break on the scoop and score. We get the ball back, let's go play out game and run it down their throat." Oh no, with a 1:09 left we decide now we want to move the ball. Let's go from power run formation to empty backfield so there is no pocket defender in a situation where you can't hear anything to set up a flustered offense for more issues. They run a corner blitz and AJ panic throws, instead of taking the sack and just going to half. Now you have let 1 mistake become 2. To make it worse we go for the trifecta of bone head moves. It's basically a football law that you take a shot when you get a turnover. It has happened on the first or second play after a turnover in every game from high school to pro for the last 50 years. So what do we do. We go deep cover 2 zone, corner release for the flat, let the receiver run by himself to the corner, and try to rotate a safety over to cover. It was 3 inexcusably stupid coaching moves in a row, or 5 depending on how you want to break it up. Time management/play call, time management/ play call, play call. Sorry guys, I didn't even watch your video. I had to vent somewhere.
It looked like your OC got busy trying to trick the D rather than relying on his strong run game. On the other hand, BYU LOVES putting pressure on in situations. Sometimes you have to line up, snap on the first sound, and run it down the defense’s throat. No fakes, no decoy, no need to pull anyone out of position…just line up and beat the guy in front of you. Not sure K State can do that to BYU for an entire game, but they looked really solid early, and probably should have just stuck with it.
Kansas, you need to give yourself a break. Virtually no one, I mean no one, beats a good BYU team at late night, at home. The altitude, noise level, late night game factors make it almost impossible to win. The last team to win under those circumstances was East Carolina in 2017 making a field goal with 3 seconds to go in the game.
BYU fan here. (My daughter was born in Manhattan KS and I'm a K-state fan as well. We lived in Wamego for 3 years). We sat next to 7 K-state fans at the game. Great people! They were classy when they were winning and they were classy when the tide turned. The BYU D did a great job keeping K-state out of the end-zone. That is no small task against a QB like AJ. I don't think these commentators or anyone posting comments needs to give BYU any credit. Nothing is worse than when you shoot yourself in the foot. Any expectation by the opposing team's fans for your guys or fans to spend any effort to credit them for your mistakes is silly. @FinallyTuned isn't totally wrong that BYU fans are a little insecure and some want you to tell them how good their team was. Don't worry @FinallyTuned I won't show up at on your doorstep uninvited. But I will declare the truth as I see it. Jesus loves you. And BYU was the better team last night.

Understand that a lot was given to BYU. But BYU also capitalized on those short fields and made those TDs, something KSU couldn’t do in the 1st quarter. BYU deserves some credit for putting TDs on the board.
By your words BYU only earned 10 points and the rest were gifts. That makes the score BYU 10 - K Stare 9 BYU still WINS. When you get turn overs in football it’s normally because your D caused them. BYU won this game because they played harder and smarter. Thanks for coming I could see you have a good team.
BYU knows how it feels, KState. I remember a few years ago BYU played their ultimate rival, Utah, in a bowl game and the Utes intercepted three passes and returned them for touchdowns in the opening minutes of the game and scored two more in the first quarter. Utah held on and won the game 35 -28, so believe me the BYU fans know how it feels to be butt-kicked by turnovers.
Sometimes you get hit in the mouth and sometimes you don't play your best on any given night. It's just the nature of the game. There's a lot of football left to play this year. Best of luck moving forward to all the k state fans. I hope you go undefeated the rest of the season.
I'm going to have to agree with you. Tulane shredded our secondary and BYU, for the most part did the same. I watched the game on TV but I definitely put a night game in Provo on my list of must see!
Wow, I was hoping BYU would keep it close against a good KST team but the wildcats just melted down like nothing I’ve ever seen. Maybe some Haitian immigrants put a voodoo curse on them or some such thing it was just stunning. I kind of feel bad that they didn’t play anywhere near up to their ability, but that’s just happens sometimes in college football and could happen to BYU next week.
Avery was just missing guys - over throwing them downfield. He’s raw and he can probably be the great QB we think he can be, but look at all the freshman QBs who throw for 200+ yards in their debut. It’s the WRs and the play calling too, but Avery was a top 10 QB and should be throwing better - even in a loss
Another Cougar fan here. Around 3:30 mark you discussed defensive success. Understand how Kalani is at BYU. In the 4th quarter he knew the game was over. Situational football. He is not the type of coach to run up the score. Thus his reason for focusing on the run game at that point in the game. Both stopped drives ended in punts downed near the 10 yard line. Run down the clock, punt and allow defense to continue to run down clock. With game on the line, the offense plays differently during those 4th quarter drives.
Just like our problems during weeks 1-3, it boils down to ZERO accountability. You see players in every position make mistakes, you see Chris Kleiman and Riley and the other coaches make mistakes, but nobody ever looks like they care because they know that nobody is going to hold them accountable. It starts all the way at the top with our Athletic Director. He won’t yell at Chris, so Chris won’t yell at the coordinators and position coaches, and they won’t yell at the players. Then the players make mistakes, don’t care about the mistakes, and don’t learn from them. I’d fire the AD and maybe rebuild a culture of accountability and winning. If the top of the chain is fixed, the rest of the system should work itself out
I said before the game started that BYU would win if they had zero turnovers.....yet I knew they would. Well, surprise, KState with 3 TO's didn't have a chance, just like my beloved Cougars would have had no chance. K State is a better team than showed up Saturday night. Last year, TO X 3 at KU that cost the game. Goal line Pick six of 100 yards against Oklahoma that cost the game. So K State fans, we can commiserate with your pain. Trust me. Good luck the rest of the year! Please bring your A game against the Ute pukes.
The punt return was a fluke. But were the rest just Kansas State making goofs, darn it, or was it BYU presenting a challenge that generated issues? Were the penalties unfocused players, or did BYU factor into that?
This game was goofy. K State is a very good team. You just can't turn the ball over. That said, I question if the K state players overlooked BYU. I think many of you K State fans did.
We like football. There's a lot of us... and it's a pretty common thing to do after a big win. You can be a bigot if you want, won't matter to us any, we're used to it

Conor Reilly's body language during interviews hasn't been very good for a while. I'm surprised it hasn't changed and we're 1/3 of the season in... Maybe he should have stuck to coaching All-conference linemen. It doesn't like like the offensive plan is built around Avery's strengths, but that they are trying to avoid being predictable. They're just out-guessing themselves. The predictable Avery is pretty hard to stop. Hit em with your best shot, you don't have to fool anybody out of the gate. I don't think the receivers are very well prepared, or they just can't hack it. Not impressed by the receivers coach. They only had one reception over 9 yards, and the game was out of reach by then. Were they getting pushed off their routes? This isn't jr high. BYU had like 7 or 8 guys with receptions of 11+ yards. Do more with less.
Coug fan here. We know how good you are and this wasn’t you at your best. Good luck here on out. Respect.

OFFENSIVE LINE TOTALLY DESTOYED ANYTHING GOOD K-STATE DID BY VERY BONE HEAD PENALITIES. THE 1ST PENALTY COST US A TD.
I've said all along: making Riley our OC looks and feels like when Belichick made Matt Paricia his OC. And the results are the same.
I guess the BYU QB tossing a dime to Roberts TD with KState doing a cover two was a shot in the foot as well.
This was outrageous
Avery's strong suit is running, passing not so much. Scrap the zone defense. Letting receivers run free into the end zone leads to TD's.

Please change the scheme or find a new offensive coordinator. There isn’t a lot of creativity to this offense at all.
We can’t pass the damn ball . Where is all are WR at
We ain’t got them lol just consistent TE play for now. Jayce brown refuses to show up
Come on. You act like BYU didn’t have anything to do with those turnovers. What sour losers.
BYU see always does well and then blows it against garbage schools. Altitude looking like kstate was in sloppy slooooooowwwww moooootttiiiioooonn😅
I still believe in you guys you guys will win all of the rest of your games and will also win the big 12 and get revenge on byu😈 LETS GO K STATE!
Yup...truthfully we should've won...10-9.BYU..😁
10-6. Avery Johnson was clearly short of the endzone. The line ref called him out. Nobody know what ref said he was in.
I think they are being too hard on AJ. I thought the receivers let him down.
True...agree on both points!!.. Go Cougs..
The punt return was a fluke. But were the rest just Kansas State making goofs, darn it, or was it BYU presenting a challenge that generated issues? Were the penalties unfocused players, or did BYU factor into that?
all punt returns are "flukes" and yet, they put points on the board.
This game was goofy. K State is a very good team. You just can't turn the ball over. That said, I question if the K state players overlooked BYU. I think many of you K State fans did.
BYU is just the more dominant team, they physically beat the shit out of them and pretty much manhandled them from the get-go.
Wow… the BYU fans coming to thesez comments looking for compliments/credit is creepy. But then again, they often show up on uour doorstep uninvited.
We like football. There's a lot of us... and it's a pretty common thing to do after a big win. You can be a bigot if you want, won't matter to us any, we're used to it
I'm a BYU fan and lived in Kansas chill out bro
Get a life dude, it's not just BYU fans.... you sound whiny as hell and take no accountability and that's why you got your asses handed to you.
@@bondweaver7606 You’re creepy too.
It's not built around Avery's strengths, but it's also not built around the team's strengths
1:20 Giddens is great, the ball didn’t just get fumbled out of nowhere, it was a forced fumble by BYU’s Jack Kelly I believe.
No credit to BYU? REALLY?
Let's wait till the end of conference play to decide who is what. Wishing you the best.
