    After watching you drag those rounds with the picaroon, we will have to call you "Skidder Joe"! Skidder Kev will now be jealous! Ha. Why carry the stuff, when you can drag it.
    Nice "cushioning chips" in your small trailer! I just learned those "live decks" are close to $20k! Worth every penney over the long run, and even short run. Bob from Metsa Machines is the biggest "straight shooter" Ive seen. He'll do well. Good guy!
    Everything is "revolving around the Axis" ! Very funny! I can see how the Axis has its place in the wood yard, but wrestling around big rounds on its deck, will wear you out when you get older. Its still a great machine!
    When you dump splits on ground covered with wood chips, it stays clean with no mud. No wonder your delivered firewood looks perfect.
    We all watch and learn from a master! Great job Joe!

  • @davehertle
    @davehertle 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    One trick Joe after first dumping and prior to pulling forward is to backup a couple of feet first pushing wood back, then pulling forward until it starts to slide, then back up again, rinse and repeat. That allows the back of the trailer to bull-doze some of the pieces higher and the few last pieces are not so strewn out all over the drive forward.

    Hi Joe - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. You seem to have nicked our Irish weather up in the NE while a recent TV report here showed the Hoover dam threatening to run out of water. The world is certainly topsy-turvy. As you know, I am a great fan of vertical splitters for their accuracy of split and reduced movement of wood on the table. They greatly outnumber horizontal splitters over here.

    However, a pleasure to see the Axis in action. I can't wait to make some more firewood myself. I was on vacation for four weeks, and after returning home it was right the other way round than your weather: 95°F and burning sun. So I decided to reactivate my pool instead of splitting the rounds (by hand) I have laying around...😁

  • @TheUserid82

    There are ways to force dry the ground if you don't mind the work and base costs to install it. A central sump for a pump and a grid of french drains with gravel filling the trenches will let you direct where you want to pump the water so it is no longer a problem for you. As you would be driving over the area you would need to use the more expensive PVC drain tiles but the normal most expensive part is the labor so you can cut that by renting a trencher and installing it yourself as it is pipe, gravel and filter cloth for the drain field and the central sump if you don't have a low spot to send the water to naturally.
    You can also do a mostly gravel filled trench with grass covering it but it takes longer to pull any surface water in and you want the area dry to work on asap.

    Yes sir i hear ya. We're saturated in Michigan also...LOL. whats your thoughts on stacking with the bark on? Bark up, down, or doesn't matter? Great video, love the production of the Axis 👍👍

    • @ohiowoodburner
      @ohiowoodburner  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Russ. I have tried every way imaginable to stack wood and I have concluded that nothing really matters except for the fact that the wood is stacked. I don't even tarp anymore. I think it is better for the rain to get onto the wood. Keeps it clean and keeps the rodents from living under the tarp. One thing I found that brings value is that the wood stack faces North to south.

    Now that you have a loader, there should be some way to use the loader to lift up the wood from the pile that was dumped out. Perhaps an extra heavy tarp could be laid on the ground and the wood placed on the tarp and then the tarp lifted with a loader. That is probably not the best idea, but it might get you started to think about it.

    Hey Joe, I need some advice…. I placed an order in for a super splitter but I haven’t paid for it yet….. I saw on another video that you said the super splitter doesn’t do well in the rain……oh crap!!! I live in a rain forest in the pacific north west!!!! Can you explain why it doesn’t do well…. I plan to park it and use it under cover….. will that help? Or does it gum up if the wood is really wet? I need to abandon ship if it’s the wrong one for my location… thanks.

    • @ohiowoodburner
      @ohiowoodburner  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have found that the SS can be finicky in wet conditions bc of the bearings on the ram. The wood mess tends to gum up on the beam. Also the top beam is unfinished an you can get a sheen of rust on it if you don't keep it sprayed with a lube etc. That is just me... I see a lot on YT that are rusted up etc and they seem to work fine. If you are under a roof you should be good too. I think the production you will get out of this will well off set any inconvenience of wet weather splitting. Get one if you can.

    Instead of doing time consuming manual stacking,have you considered using something like these ; www.uittokalusto.fi/metsatyot/polttopuut/klapisakit.html

      I have looked at those but I'm not yet sold on them. Not sure how delivery would go and if the wood would mold sitting packed like that for 6-12 months. I still think the best value is to stack it yourself or pay a HS kid $20

      @@ohiowoodburner They are very common here in finland and skandinavia,i have personally bought firewood on those,which have been drying a year or two,no mold issues at all.In fact they are very effective for drying wood.For the delivery,one could use a little flatback with hydraulic arm.They are rather sturdy made so they can be on rotation for several years.

    You are not splitting as fine as you used to.
    You do a great job complaining about the weather. Does it help?
