    Nice edge. This is about as far as I’ve been able get with my edges. If it can split a hair it’s good for me. I have to try some of the diamond emulsion/pastes. People seem to love em

      Highly recommend Gunny juice for dipping your toes into the diamond emulsion. There are a lot of good products out there now though!

    Hey Justin. Great info once again. I’m finding that I enjoy that knife more and more. What does something like this test at in the BESS tester?

    • @EngineersPerspective701
      @EngineersPerspective701 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! I actually ran out of BESS test media for about a week and a half so I didn't get to test this particular edge. If I had to guess, I'd say around 115g BESS. It looks like it has a bit better bite than some of the

    I pre ordered a bark river psk edc in magnacut, and I'm stoked to see about what people say
    Meant magnacut LOL

      Only ever heard good things about bark river. Should be awesome!

    My first thought watching video, hope the new magnacut sharpens just as good as cruwear. Seperately, regarding the edge reprofiling I had kind of wondered about how that went with the veneve 240, but you cleared it up at the end of video.
    In any event, after seeing video now I want to play around with those lower concentration veneve mini stones for refining steps. I can't remember your exact words but I came away with impression that you can get deburred a bit better on stone that way, I guess because you wouldn't be forming burr as much as higher conc. stone which would be a bit more aggressive even though same grit?
    BTW, can't help but notice, approaching 1000 subs! 👏👍

      @EngineersPerspective701 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      My thoughts exactly! Which would be a substantially big deal for me personally to have that plus stainless and a sweet dollop of VC! Yeah I’ve actually really been enjoying the 240F, a very pleasant surprise!
      It’s a bit of a pain using the little stone but man does it leave a crisp edge. Linked is a video I probably won’t publish because I fumble around for way too long but I got a 95g score straight off the 25% 400F. Like it’s kind of bananas how nice it finishes!
      Definitely have to celebrate somehow for the 1000! I’m so blown away how quick this has grown. Although I may be leaving my tool centric audience wanting a bit these days😅!

      Thanks, will watch extra video anyway. Even though those mini stones are kind of hard to work with definitely want to give it a try after your good results.
      Great channel and I have learned a lot. Don't worry about those tool guys, they can become converts, knives and sharpening equipment are tools too anyway 😁

    What do you think about CBN grinding wheels ? for knives ?

    • @EngineersPerspective701
      @EngineersPerspective701 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Honestly I don't have any experience with grinding on wheels or CBN ones specifically. I've heard really great things about the Tormek one's for sharpening so for that purpose I'd say go for it. Keeping in mind that you'll want to keep things cool.

    How do you avoid scratches on the coating while sharpening

      Don’t change the angle while sharpening, and if you mean the tip when curving that’s from poor angle management

    It’s can be Sharper, if you can touch the blade without cutting yourself, well it can be much sharper

    You got a good edge, looks nice, but here’s a secret-chromium carbides are not a good thing, they are big, brittle, encourage chipping and take chromium out of solution, decreasing corrosion resistance.

    • @EngineersPerspective701
      @EngineersPerspective701 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Yes, but they increase wear resistance and their impact on toughness can be minimized through proper heat treatment. The stainless properties can likewise be altered by heat treatment to target higher corrosion resistance at the expense of wear resistance.
      Are they as efficient as VC or NbC, no but that doesn’t make them “bad”. The harder carbides have the same trade off just to different extents.
      Steel design can have a major impact as well. AEB-L has 6vol% all chromium carbide and it’s basically the toughest stainless steel available.
      So it’s not as simple as “bad” or “good”. Just the trade offs you’re willing to make to get the end properties you want.

    • @mikafoxx2717
      @mikafoxx2717 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The secret to AEB-L, Nitro-V, and 14c27m are that they use the maximum amount of chrome that lets the carbide all dissolve during the heat treatment, so they're incredibly fine, unlike D2, especially low quality D2.@@EngineersPerspective701
