      That's a complicated question and depends on several factors.. No market is the same. Consumer preferences vary by region worldwide. And as grower you have to grow a variety suitable for your local climate.

      We use different herbicides which are approved by Dutch legislation. When we use it, we use it as less as possible. We prefer to use weeder machines as much as possible. Since the video is a bit dated, these machines aren't in it..

    Why do you fold down the root stock in winter?

    • @FruitboomkwekerijMorren
      @FruitboomkwekerijMorren  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You mean at 8:19? This is the start of a new layer / stool bed from mother plants. From this bed we harvest the new 'shoots' year after year. This you see at 11:47. Harvesting from the same stool bed can go on for more than 25 years..

    You are cutting from the top with scissors as it appeared in 4.01. Can I learn why.

  • @johncollins1602
    @johncollins1602 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Using 1 set of sissors, or clippers to trim the tops of multi trees, the entire rows .real good way of spreading disease through the trees. Only takes 1! Every tree cut w same sissors after got disease now
    Just a silly practice , and not needed
    Just break the top growing shoot off. Dosent need cutting

    • @FruitboomkwekerijMorren
      @FruitboomkwekerijMorren  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your feedback. We want to grow a uniform nursery in tree length and in branching (also a requirement from our clients), so for us it is not a silly practice. I can imagine this will vary depending on the market and the type of client. Till this moment we didn't experience spreading diseases caused by this practice.

    • @FruitboomkwekerijMorren
      @FruitboomkwekerijMorren  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, the wax is used as a seal for protection. It will keep the moisture inside and won't dry out. It will also keep insects out.

    • @FruitboomkwekerijMorren

      This is the layering of a new stoolbed (motherplants). The shoots coming from this layer, will be cut every year (see 11:45) and are used as rootstock for grafting the trees.
