Denny Carmassi !!! Met him in his Heart days when I was playing in a club in a hotel they were staying at. They came up to our club after their show and Denny said he wanted to sit in with us. Went to hand him sticks and the set, he said no, I wanna play your trumpet. He picked Kansas City and we played it! Blew my mind!!!!
The Montrose album this song comes from has got to be one of the greatest of all time. And the Red Rocker and Ronnie Montrose crafted a masterpiece !!!!! 🎸
First rock and roll song I ever learned to play on the drums. I was playing big band, swing and jazz because my grandfather wanted me to be the next Gene Krupa or Buddy Rich. I wanted to be the next Denny Carmassi, Don Brewer, John Bonham and Ginger Baker!! And even with arthritis in my wrists and neck I can still play this all the way through. Thanks Sammy, Ronnie, Denny and Bill Electric Church for such great memories!

I first saw Montrose in 73 during their first album tour. They were the second act of a three-act show with Dave Mason as the headliner, and it was done at the Santa Monica Civic auditorium in Los Angeles. The opening act was a british band called toe fat. When Montrose came out they blew everybody away, but Mason still schooled and ruled. He is another very underrated guitar player and even more underrated singer-songwriter. I have been a rock fan since I can remember starting at age 9 and my first album was rubber sole, second was the first Black Sabbath album and believe it or not sweet baby James by James Taylor. From then it just went on to cream Hendricks and got heavier with every purchase. I love them all and I'm so glad that they are not lost to time
I saw Montrose opening for Brian Auger and Elvin Bishop at Winterland....amazing...certainly challenged Zepplin's rock and roll crown ...I still think that Sammy is equally if not a better rock vocalist than Mr. Plant & Mr. Daltry ... he is not even close to retirement!!! Just sayin'
Me too! We were sitting in a section behind the stage and I remember him coming around and doing a solo like it was just for us in the cheep seats. I hardly remember Boston. Underrated guitar player.
🎵Bill "Electric" Church-bass🎼 Denny Carmassi awesome original drummer 🥁. Nothing can beat Ronnie's signature lead on the original, but Joe is such a grand guitarist, he actually compliments the song quite well🎶🎸!!

Rocky Candy is one of the groovenist riffs ever, and I expect it will remain so for many years to come. Ronnie Montrose was a beast.
MONTROSE 🤘
Joe is one of the all time greats but, Ronnie was no slouch.... In some ways better than Joe... just different...
Ronnie is saddle missed. May he R.I.P.
YES!!! As soon as I hear the drums and opening licks, I’m 18 again. 😮
I saw the Montrose reunion in St. Louis with Ronnie, Sammy, Bill, and Denny. Good stuff.

R.I.P. Ronnie. One of the unsung rock guitar masters. You made me want to play guitar and love music.
Saw them back in 74 supporting Quo. Best supporting act I ever saw.
Also. March 1974. Flint Mi
with Humble Pie
Sammy has aged but his voice hasn’t… one of the few older rockers who can make that claim.
I don't think he's aged at all! He looks terrific! Still got hair colour also
Its Feb 20 2021 WHO STILL LOVES ROCK CANDY as much as THis 54 Year young GUYS DOES !
I like that Joe doesn't over play on this, very nice rendition of the original.
Totally agree. Plays it straight probably because it's a masterpiece on its own.
Wow, this was a treat to stumble onto!. amazing players all!, great to see Joe Groove it!
what a badass tune....Montrose was such a cool band back in the day.....great job by a great guitarist Joe Satch......love it...thanks for posting
I use to play air guitar with this song in the late 1970s, and the rest of the LP too. Way ahead of their time.
Rest In Peace, Ronnie Montrose.

Denny's the man! Took over for Derosier in the eighties in Heart and took them to new levels of stardom. Plays with such solid time and passion.
Derosier is a WAY better drummer!
Sammy, you are truly a fn badass. I love this tune. It vibrates my inards
