- This is a video going over EVERYTHING about the SmartTop from Mods4Cars. It's a module that lets you open the roof of your car while in motion with just one touch. Either the push of a button or release of the roof latch. Of course I show it off on my 2007 Mazda Miata (MX-5) NC PRHT (power retractable hard top) but the SmartTop is for many cars. I just installed this on my 09. It's a total game-changer! Ps. The small white clip is easy to remove if you just press down the little "tab" on the backside then pull. That's whats keeping it in place.

I've had mine for 5 years. No issues other that that tough plug release.

A dollar a day for a year is worth it too. Btw I’m 63 & have owned vettes, chargers , z28s, several Audis, jags, countless fiats n alfas n 2 Miata’s.
Sold the A6 last year for a 1 owner 13’ mint nc.
Didn’t care for the nd n almost bought a 3 year old z4 but shop bills won’t be ez. Thx again for the comprehensive n fluid vid🏆

Bought a similar device from a company called (I think) MX 5 Things fitment same as described here (easy) and functional the same the big difference is, here in the UK Smart Top costs about £400, the unit I bought was much cheaper. OK I had to order from the USA but delivery was prompt and didn’t add much cost.
Definitely agree the functionality makes the car so much better, but the Mazda operation is similar to many similar cars which I think is due to legislation.

Great job with the video! But... For almost $400, I'll pass. In 10+ years driving MX-5 I had to pull into someone's driveway once when it started to rain. I also agree with the guys about the risk of getting the mechanical parts of the roof top damaged when it is operated while driving. Most of the time, practically, I'd start closing or opening the roof when I arrive or leave my house, just going over the curb and in the corner, so, chances are something there will bend sooner or later. It takes 12 seconds...

Glad it was a useful video for you Andre! Totally understand that it’s cost prohibitive. Thankfully no issues with my roof since I did the install and now I’d never be able to go back. It’s kind of like heated seats or in car navigation, if you’ve never had it, you won’t miss it! Glad you’re enjoying your MX-5. Which color is your NC?

Nice idea and I would want one but not for £364 ! There is a cheaper version but they don't have any in stock!
Great video. Detailed and to the point. So it sounds like this is a $400. mod. Like the convenience but the price is high. I've had to pull over 2 times and 1 time I did it at a long light when it started to rain which happens a lot in the panhandle of Florida. Thanks for the practical detailed video.
Glad you got something useful out of it Dino. I agree the price is high but when you think about it over the course if the years using it, it's not so bad. Once you install it, it feels like the car should've come with it. Love backing out of my spot with the roof going down at the same time.
I still have to wonder if it does any harm while your moving, like eventually throwing it off track alignment or balance. I know you shouldn't go over 30 MPH but still. It is a useful mod though and it makes life easier. Thanks for the reply.
@@Music-Tech-Life I had the same worries and I think it would do harm IF you hit rough road, a bump, speed bump, pothole, etc while moving. I make sure to only use it on flat ground in areas I know (my gym parking lot, home, work, etc.) Sometimes on the freeway if traffic is stopped here in Los Angeles.

NC GT, love this mod!! Any issues with you radio lcd not working correctly? My lcd freezes or blanks out. Works but can't read display
No issues with my radio LCD thankfully. Car doesn't have many miles on it so maybe yours has aged more? Mine is an 07 with 45,000 miles.
Hi, just bought this module for my NC1. I chose the same settings as you showed in the video, yet my car refuses to onetouch open/close the roof. If I choose the second setting for function 2, I still need to keep pressing the button x3 for full roof operation. If I choose the third setting for function 2 (the one you said you use), the first part of the roof opening happens as soon as I open the latch, however for the second and third part I still need to keep the roof operation button pressed. Any ideas on how to fix this?
Hey Dieter, is your button sticky at all? Make sure the module is plugged all the way in. I would unplug and plug the module back in, make sure all connections are good. If that doesn't work email Mods4Cars from their website. Sounds like a signal is getting lost somewhere. Keep me updated!
I watched this video decided to make this my first mod I did on my NEW NC. The car already came with an aftermarket exhaust and suspension. After having a soft top, I found it annoying to keep holding my finger on the button to close or to open.
Sounds like it came with a nice setup! What color is yours Marc?
Liquid silver. I was lucky the connector came apart quickly. Took lest than 1/2 an hour from start to finish. Someone suggested to use a computer blanking plate.
