    A buddy of mine was in a chess club. His elo was around 1600, maybe a bit higher. We've played many games together, he taught me many things about chess, and he has won every time of course. I haven't seen him like since Chrismast 2016 or so, but last weekend we managed to get together for a couple of beers and a good barbeque. I've been watching your videos for 6 months now, and after 3 matches the result was 2 draws and 1 win for me. I guess, he wasn't playing at his best, but for me the 2 draws were like a win. The last game was a bit of a joke, but a win is still a win :D
    I just want to say, thanks for the enternaintment everyday, thx for the replays and analysis and keep up the good work
    (sorry for the bad english, i'm from Germany. I hope you'll get what i want to say)

    The person making the first move is Felix Magath, former german soccer player and coach. He was known for his hard training methods, which earned him the nickname "Quälix" (german "quälen" = to torture). Magath is a passionate chess player and took part in some simultaneous chess exhibitions (1985 against Kasparov and or 2016 against Carlsen). Here is his game against Kasparov:
    1.d4 d5 2.c4 e6 3.Nf3 Nf6 4.g3 c5 5.cxd5 Nxd5 6.Bg2 Sc6 7.0-0 cxd4 8.Nxd4 Be7 9.Nc3 0-0 10.Nxd5 exd5 11.Be3 Be6 12.Qd2 Lf6 13.Rac1 Rc8 14.Nxc6 bxc6 15.Bxa7 Qd7 16.Bc5 Rfe8 17.a4 Bh3 18.b4 Bxg2 19.Kxg2 Re5 20.f3 Rce8 21.Rf2 Qe6 22.Rc2 Rh5 23.a5 Bg5 24.Qd3 Qh6 25.Kg1 f5 26.f4 Bf6 27.b5 g5 28.bxc6 gxf4 29.Qxd5+ Kh8 30.Qf7 Rg8 31.Qxg8+ Kxg8 32.c7 fxg3 33.c8=Q+ Kf7 34.Qb7+ 1-0

    I wonder - how chess players like Caruana, Mamedyarov, Aronian, Carlsen, Nakamura, all of them greet each other during tournaments like these? Is it something like:
    "Hey, Shaggy, long time no see bro! What's up?"
    or:
    "Mr. Mamedyarov, it's a pleasure to compete with you, let the game begin."
    or even maybe:
    "I'll crush you all :)"

      In competitions like this I imagine situation of tension/cordiality/education.
      Nothing super formal like your second option, but I think that the players are so focused on what's about to go on on the board that don't even think much at the rest (of the world)
      maybe this does not apply to Ivantchouk

    • @GinoTheSinner
      @GinoTheSinner 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a competition, you set your mindset accordingly, just greet professionally and anything other than that is some attempt at mindfucking which is really bad form.

    Felix Magath likes and plays chess and said that every soccer-player should know it because he learns a lot about strategy. He scored the only goal in the European Cup for Hamburg against Juventus in 1983 and 2009 he coached Wolfsburg when they won the Bundesliga with Edin Dzeko.

      Baseball has someone throw the first pitch. Hockey, someone drops a puck for a face-off. It is just kind of a ceremonial thing sometimes done in sports, including chess.
