I will always remember this audition. When I heard it sung by him I cried. I had lost my mom and felt so lost. But this audition helped me to let go of a lot pain. So thank you Josh for doing this audition.

To be fair it seemed fairly easy to make Cheryl cry, not because she was a faker but where she’s too soft hearted for her own good.
Simon though, even in the midst of his own personal tragedy, you somehow expect him to remain stoic at all times. There is a heart in there after all. Deep down but it’s there.

From time to time I come back to watch this audition and at first I wished Simon would’ve said something at the end but now I’m kind of glad he didn’t. For me it shows the power of the performance

Nice touch at 4:54 where Cheryl glances at Simon and immediately realises he needs more time to compose himself, so she tactfully goes first to let him gather his thoughts.
Say what you want about her as a singer or even a judge, but Cheryl’s kindness and compassion can’t be faulted, she’s a nice woman. Poor Simon, we all like to call him ‘Mr Nasty’ but this audition proved he has a heart after all, he’s not as much of a cold and emotionless robot as you think.
I’ve seen this video already, and I thought I made a comment but apparently I have not… Somebody does not shed a teardrop during this performance, there’s gotta be something wrong with you… Wow… Just the whole story and the voice… sadness, but performed beautifully… Well done❤
