Didn’t even realize until today that John’s sketches are totally different from Arthur’s for the same locations.
Another brilliant touch, especially since John mentions at one point that he’s trying to become as good an artist as Arthur was in his journal.
The differences between John and Arthur's pages in the journal are honestly probably my favorite thing in the game. Where Arthur was long-winded and eloquent, taking the time to sketch and shade, John is curt and to-the-point with (honestly impressive for an assumed first try) simple line drawings. Sadly I didnt do an awful lot of the exploration that leads to so many of these awesome easter eggs (and I did a FUCKTON of exploring, so go Rockstar?), so I missed out on Arthur's sketches of things like the old oil derrick or the hobbit house and his subsequent commentary on them. On the plus side, I've got John's crude sketches and short one liners. My favorite so far is after meeting someone i can't even remember, just an angry old timer, John drew a crude sketch of him and wrote "Met the angriest man in the world today. Relieved to find it wasn't me."
Thankfully I have a save toward 60% of the story completion so I may go back and revisit all these places just to see what Arthur says.

I'm not sure how far--if at all--Arthur can go into New Austin, but seeing it through John's confused, curt, sardonic little commentary has been the highlight of exploring that wasteland. I always thought the fact that the Stranger missions had two separate dialogue tracks in the first game for Jack and John was a nifty feature, but RDR2 really takes it to another level.

The Donkey lady is most likely a reference to the bug in RDR1 glitch where animals would have human models. One of the most infamous was a lady turning half donkey that you could ride.
Hope there are more easter eggs referring to that

The “defaced grave” is actually not defaced on it it says “no ice in hell” and the corpse has a leg missing. In a cabin nearby you can find a letter about this man and apparently the man was a famous ice/figure skater that got into an accident
I think the donkey lady is a reference to the manimal bug from red dead redemption 1 where A.I's would glitch out and animals would spawn but would have a human model one for example was the donkey lady a donkey in a woman's body.
And the random guys in suits who would t-pose while flying in the air

I think the faces on the trees is a reference to a story. I think it takes place in Michigan in the UP. I think the story goes like this. Someone tells these two boys that if they find a circle of trees they could get eternal life. One day they find the trees. there was 12 circled around. All having faces and branches looking like they are about to grab the boys. The boys were never seen again. And when a search party was looking for them. They stumbled upon a circle of 14 trees.
I’m might have missed some details but that’s as much as I remember.
I'm saying that all of these small little Easter eggs/Secrets are placed in so that when/if undead nightmare comes out you could go to these spots and check them out like if anything has changed.

10:10 This is likely a reference to Leif Erikson, a viking leader that sailed to North america around 1000 AD, the stone is written in the old norse rune script so this was likely written by scandinavian explorers a long time ago.
5:19 this might have been the vampires doing, look at the wounds on the horses and how there is no body in the coffin

[SPOILER RANT WARNING!!!]
I have already finished the entire story and epilogue and Rockstar has made my new favorite game ever. I was more deeply connected to Arthur than John which I didn’t believe was possible. So much so, that I am angry about what they did. Some may say it was necessary as he wasn’t mentioned in RDR, but I disagree. They wouldn’t have put Mary in the game if she wasn’t meant to give us hope for him running away with her. Arthur could’ve helped John escape and make him swear never to mention that he got away and he be presumed dead. They could even make him the one who Jack went to after his father’s death who helped him avenge John or something. It was the most depressing thing playing as Arthur for 10 hrs as he was dying in chapter 6. Watching him die was so hard and made me sad even when I wasn’t playing and even now. The fact that R* did this is amazing, but I can’t help but wish they didn’t chose the same thing as RDR by killing the man we wanted and making us play the rest of the game as someone we don’t. Don’t get me wrong I love RDR and John, but every time I play now I’m wishing I was Arthur wish is not something I want to feel every time I play now. I don’t believe they needed to do the obvious and kill Arthur and having him die to disease makes it all the worse. He died alone and his light at the end of the tunnel was helping John’s family and we all know how that ended. He didn’t even get to kill Micah or Milton. I just wasn’t satisfied with the way the greatest character in video game history went out.
Follow Up:
I really hope they make RDR3. Many people are saying it could be about Jack, but that would be WW1 era and not necessary IMO. I think a game about the Wild West and the golden days of the gang would be absolutely amazing. The RDR franchise has been about the transition from the Wild West to civilization. How amazing would it be to play as a sane Dutch, but preferably a young Arthur. They mentioned their past so much in the story, I can’t imagine that if they’re planning on making another one that it wouldn’t be a prequel to RDR2. It would be the gang going around as true and free outlaws living the lives they so desperately clung on to.
And one last question:
Is there any way that I could play as Chapter 5 Arthur in my free roam with everything I have currently if I only have one save that I’m playing as John in?
Busta I agree with everything you just said. John used to be my absolute favourite and I thought I would never get attached to Arthur, like I did with John. In fact, when I found out about the ending I was so happy that we’d be getting him back... until I started spending time with Arthur. And somehow he’s overtaken John as my favourite and now knowing and seeing how his story ends just makes me want to stop where I am, and never finish it. To keep him alive.
Also, RDR3 with the gang in their prime would be amazing. I’m all for that!
I hope for a Gangs of New York style Red Dead Redemption 3 but I guess we will see in the next 6-8 years.

Hey idk if youve covered it but in red dead revolver theres a train mission with very memorable passengers and they appear in the train mission in this game in the snow i believe i just remember the man that looks like the penguin and the woman that screams “AHH THE TRAINS OUT OF CONTROL I THINK SOMETHINGS WRONG WITH THE CONDUCTOR AHHHH”

Old World Script is an Old Norse Rune stone.
You know, viking carvings with symbols on to depict a story or an account of someone.
The symbols in the snake seems to be based on real runes while the text in the middle seems to be made up by Rockstar.

Near the faces on the trees is also an Obelisk, which also leads to another odd finding. While standing on beside the obelisk you see a light flashing near the river. Kind of like an SOS message. When you make your way down there you find a dead horse and a lantern. Very odd. I haven't been able to recreate it sadly, and I haven't found anything around that area to continue that bit.

I think I found an area that no on online is talking about. It's in the cave behind Elysium Pool, where you go at the end of the Dreamcatcher quest. When you first enter the cave, you'll walk by what looks like a bottomless pit off to the right side of the path, but if you jump in it, it's actually accessible and there is a crack in the wall down there, leading into another cave... which dead ends at a bottomless pit. However, there appears to be a ledge across the pit higher up. But I haven't been able to find anyway to access it. Could be something super hidden up there!?

This game is too much. It's just beyond what a game should be. Like others have said, it's like we're looking 5 years into the future. I can't see a game anytime soon topping this in terms of scale and detail. It's immense and a wonder to play.

Just before 10:00 hits on your video, you were talking about an ice skater whose had their leg chopped off...AFTER death (hence the name of arthurs journal entry). Its interesting to note theres a news clipping on the table in the cabin that elaborates on the skaters death. I think the ice skater made a deal with the Strange Man, same as the store clerk.

I think the body hanging on top the coffin was Michael from GTA! That's why he doesn't have a voice, it's because he's dead already!
I was thinking the hanged man might be the coach driver and the coffin belonged to that vampire from St. Denis, but then he wouldn't have had to hang the driver; just suck him dry and leave him for dead. =(

The rock with the ancient script on it seems to be a reference to stones with Nordic runes on them that have been found around the American coasts. :) They're important historically because they indicate that the Norse were some of the first to colonize and explore the Americas.The rock has similar runes and is on the coast of a body of water, so I feel like that's what it has to be!
