I JUST WENT THRU 1000'S of photos....oh my goodness...what a job! Got them culled down to a few hundred.
    How did I do it?
Quickly went thru and pulled the photos I really wanted to keep...and, set those aside.
I then opened this project up to the family and let them pick their favorites (I sat
in the other room and read a book.
    I did this for 2
reasons...1)to get out of their way so they could freely pick the pictures they truly wanted, 2) but sat in the other room so that I could answer questions as they came up.)
They had a great time doing this...and thanked me more than once for letting them pull these pictures.
When they were done, (like you mentioned), I picked broad categories and organized them into picture organizers from Hobby Lobby.
I KNOW there will be people who disagree with me...HOWEVER, I decided NOT TO WORRY about whether these were acid free or not. INSTEAD, I got them decluttered and simply organized and PLACED in a spot that fit.
LATER, that opportunity might present itself....but for now, it FEELS GOOD to open that cabinet and see these pictures
    neatly organized.
    BY THE WAY...
I APPRECIATE my parents saving so many moments in time....I feel that's very special....HOWEVER, IT WAS SO OVERWHELMING in the beginning.
    THEREFORE, I made a decision.
I would save enough to enjoy...but not 1000s and 1000s of photos.
    Cas, again I APPRECIATE YOU.
    TFS ❤.

We had many large totes of vhs home tapes from the last 40+ years. My husband created a TH-cam channel and uploaded them all. We threw out the old tapes and now all the kids, grandkids, family, friends and neighbors can watch them too. It’s been so much fun reminiscing with old friends. The best part is we regained a large chunk of real estate where they were previously stored.

I keep all of my reusable shopping bags on a carabiner in my car. When I go into the grocery store I grab the whole thing and I can attach the carabiner with the bags to the outside of the shopping cart. And then when I'm done with them I can hang them on a hook in my car. It's fabulous!

My family and I just moved into our new home. Its small, and we have a lot of things. I started to become overwhelmed and started looking for assistance to help with the issue. I found you! Let me just say, you are awesome! I have learned so much! Love love love the command center idea, pick a number and go and your clutter catchers! I have been decluttering once a day and I’m now in the process of looking how to organize it all. My husband ( bee) is right at this moment decluttering his own boxes! Im extremely motivated and can’t stop singing your praises to a more beautiful, organized home and he’s now on board! I’m so excited! YOU rock! Thank you 💜

I have Rubbermaid plastic containers for leftovers er. But I also have a set ofPyrex with lids. I store them above the microwave. I HATE putting plastic in the microwave. The Rubbermaid containers are stored on a shelf in my pantry. I got the 34 piece set. (17 bottoms 17 lids) I decluttered and got rid of pieces that were more than the 34 pieces

My mom saved all my school certificates, special art work, first baby tooth and hair cut. Oh and that hospital wrist band they put on new babies so you don't get placed with the wrong family lol! Anyways, she gave it all to me once I turned 18. I'm now 42 and don't own a single one of those keepsakes. Over the years I slowly let go of those things because honestly they didn't hold any sentimental value for me. And so I don't keep anything of my kids either because honestly it just becomes more clutter to store and I don't think they're ever gonna really care.

Great video, thank you. When Erica said at the end “I over analyze everything” that resonated with me,…but it also made me think of that amazing tip that either you or Dawn said,…when we over analyze, best to use the 3-second rule. Make a decision in 3 seconds - if it’s not a hard yes it’s a hard no. That has helped me soooo much. If I’m taking too long to decide it’s probably a “no.” Such helpful advice for overthinkers :) thank you! And very motivating video!

I took your quiz and it was interesting. The result was that I was a ladybug, but I’m sure I’m a hybrid of cricket and bee! BUT!! Ladybug seems to make sense when it comes to my mess in clothing. So I will take a chance on this and organize wardrobes accordingly. My biggest struggle with the quiz was that some questions are asking “which one of these is your problem?” And all were! 😂 I realized I don’t behave the same in all categories (like I’m a bee when it comes to the living room/crafts, but more of a cricket in the bathroom/kitchen
All is very helpful still ❤

I can’t tell you how helpful these live broadcasts are for me. It helps me get unstuck from organizing into a container that I feel meh about (like an Amazon box lol) but leaves me feeling better organized and better about my space. It allows me to keep an eye out for a system or a container I would not have considered. It’s your system of macro organizing and organizing to more details if needed or desired. I can deal with the aesthetics of pretty boxes later

I had this playing while I was sorting through my nightstand and other areas of my room, throwing away things that once seemed so important but now it just feels freeing to let it all go…I ran downstairs for something, saw the sink full of dishes and the dish drying rack full of clean dishes and thought “I’ll do it tomorrow “ but then I saw I had 20 mins left of this episode so I tried to beat the clock and you know what? It took not even 12 mins - TWELVE MINS of my time and now I can wake up to a neatly organized nightstand and clean kitchen sink!! Thanks for the inspiration Cas!!! 🐞

I stopped folding laundry when my oldest daughter was almost 1. The thing is... It doesn't make sense to fold baby clothes. Now I almost always put away the clean clothes. I just don't buy clothes that wrinkle for me or the kids. Also we switched from dressers to cube organizers, which makes it easier for me to put things away.
My exception is that I fold my work uniform.
Also, my husband washes and puts away his own laundry because he is also an adult.

I found your page a few weeks ago. Since them, I've been organizing small sections of my space. I am literally working on my paper clutter shredding today. My small box held almost 6 months!!! 😮
As I'm listening to this video, I started to pull seasonal items from my closet. Last week I filled an entire garbage back full of clothes. My ambitious goal is to declutter 1/3 of my closet! Yup. 1/3. I don't know if 1/2 is possible, but it might be once I move my seasonal stuff out! ❤

You get to make up your own rules! I took out a shelf in my lower kitchen cabinets and put in a bin with no lid. One bin is leftovers/lunch size-lids on. One bin is drink bottles, snack size-lids on. The glass are deeper in a different cabinet where toddlers can’t easily grab them.

I did those boxes, except I use the plastic file carrying box. I had them organized by year and gave them to my kids. My kids had a lot of fun looking at them. Somethings they said, "Why did I keep it?I gave them permission to throw away whatever they didn't want. But they had fun looking through it and laughed. The stories of different things that they could share with their kids and also my DIL. You are so right about leaving notes about having to do something or a timer that has really changed my life. Idea with fibro fog . Also, I actually have symptoms of ADHD after concussions from car accident. I used to be able to stay so untasked now i'm learning from you thank you.

This has been a game changer for me: I put laundry away as I fold!
I get constantly interrupted with 2 little ones. I''ll bring the basket of clean clothes in the room it goes in.
Fold a few things and put them in piles, then after a few piles, I put what I have folded in the drawers immediately.
Even if there is still more of that laundry item left in the basket, at least I got half a basket folded and put away before I get interrupted or my piles get destroyed.
    😂

I fold as soon as the laundry comes out of the dryer. I hate wrinkled clothes. I can hang as fast as I can spread it out. When I worked, I ironed all clothes including t shirts. Nothing worse than a nurse working and her scrubs are so wrinkled you can’t tell if she (he) pulled them out of the dryer or dirty clothes. Now I don’t iron. I steam if needed.

My 7 year old Granddaughter has just been diagnosed with ADHD. My daughter read the reviews from many of the professionals including educators. The best one she chose which Exactly describes our sweetie (it was also the Doctors favourite) & which showed just what a Great Educator this lady was: “Today she concentrated for 20 minutes beautifully & remembered what she learned. Tomorrow we’ll be lucky if it’s 5% for 5 minutes so we’ll do something else together.”
I her Grandma whilst typing & listening to you kept recognising your ‘reminders’. Setting several alarms, for Everything Important. Shopping bags in the boot of the car. I have in my kitchen Piles of stuff in baskets to Do or Put away: Canning Equipment, Clean & Filled Jars, Desk, Extended Pantry, Bedroom, Playroom, Recycle. Somehow if it’s in organised piles it stays tidy, gets done & doesn’t make me crazy. Best:People grab baskets & empty them if they are going that way. Yeh

I enjoyed this very much. Regarding getting a laundry load completed all the way, I have found it helpful to pair it with another chore that has breaks in it, so I can move the laundry along to the next step. Regarding keeping stuff for kids, I pondered what to do with a couple of scrapbooks my mother had made (greeting cards, not photos). I finally realized she had really made it for her, not me. So I "Marie kondo'd" it...appreciating the work Mom had done, and then recycled them.

Thank you for sharing the one box idea! I'm not exaggerating, when I was 27, my mom gave me between 15 and 20 large plastic storage bins of toys, school stuff, etc from my childhood. It has been over 5 years, and I still have about half of the boxes to go through. It's tedious and boring 😭 But I'm trying to get more space back in my storage room to have a place to put my Christmas decorations 😅

@noracomeau2986 I have two toys from my childhood that I'm grateful to have, and I've kept them for when my kids are a little bit older. As soon as I put groceries up, I put the bags on the doorknob of the front door of my apartment. Since I live in an apartment, I have to use the laundry facilities in walking distance. I lay jeans draped over one edge of the basket and swears/blouses on the other side. I roll towels and toss undies and socks straight in. I only fold things like tshirts because I hang jeans, sweaters and blouses because they are a simple slip on the hangar when I am at my closet and the socks and undies are divided into their separate bins which are one right above another in an IKEA Kala’s. It is a pretty easy process for me.

This is my dilemma: my 23 square meter flat is also my work space. I have decluttered and organized all my personal items, and kitchen items. without missing a step - it was easy! These things remain tidy, because I put things away and not down. My work tools and materials, as a creative, is my issue: while I am now designating specific storage for specific, like items, I find it impossible to predict what materials or tools I would need for a next client project. You know how it goes - the minute you toss one of these key things, a client gives you a new project which needs that material or tool! As I have to import EVERYTHING for my job as a professional calligrapher, I cannot easily replace things. Our local currency is in the toilet for one and another reason, which makes imports prohibitively expensive! I am caught between the proverbial bottle and the label......eeeek!!

I'm watching this right now. I agree about the quiz. Twice my result was Butter Fly and twice it was Lady Bug. It does confirm what I already supect...I'm a hybrid of both...probably pretty equally. My house is still in. Transformation from serious disaster to reasonably tidy, but it's getting easier and easier to maintain what's already been de-cluttered. I'm finding, as I organise after and during de-cluttering, I do find myself wanting to fund hidden homes for some things and create open and on-display homes for other things. And I'm a little detailed with my organization, but only just enough to make it easy to see what things are in my baskets, containers, drawers, etc. It's very macro. MY kitchen counters still are lined up with appliances and things that I use every day. I would love to have it just a little bit less filled up. I know I've mentioned it in other videos before, but have you seen The Organised Mum? Her name is Gemma Bray, and her cleaning system just makes so much sense for me, and I have huge ADHD symptoms although I'm undiagnosed. And timers do help me alot. TOMM is very adaptable. You do not have to follow her schedule and jobs lists the same way she does. You can schedule and list them to suit your home and needs. I Do have a little structure in my day or else nothing would get done But I leave alot of open space. For example, I know about what time I need to start dinner. I know about what time I need to clean up dinner and get ready for bed. And I know what time of day I'm working on that day's weekly cleaning, but they are approximate, not detailed lists, unless needed, and subject to change as far as time of day, as needed. Any way, Gemma Bray's app is a one-time payment of 5 lbs (not sure about us dollar price). Her printable are free. But I actually write out my own schedules and lists using her formats as a guide. She's in the UK, and their houses tend to be smaller, so I've found I need to adjust my time limits on the different levels of cleaning in some areas of my home. But I do use a timer when I do those jobs. I highly recommend her for a cleaning system. She purposely developed her method for working mothers who seriously don't have hours in their day to clean house, but you don't have to be a working mother. You can just have other challenges that make it difficult to keep a tidy home and still have time and energy for the other areas of our lives. I seriously lean on you and on TOMM as my organizing and cleaning guides and mentors.

I use plastic Rubbermaid for Tupperware and have stacks of small squares stacks of medium squares and stacks of large squares. And then stack of lids. I also have round ziplocks for soup that all stack on each other and then a stack of round lids.

Regarding the lids… putting the lids on reduces time spent searching for them, even if they are tidy. Then you also know which don’t have a match every time.👍🏻

Re: Grocery shopping. When I am getting ready to go I take a photo of my written list. I don't want to put it 'away' because then it would be too much trouble to pull it out again & write one more item BUT if I walk out the door without it, at least I have most of the list on my phone (unlike Cass, there is usually nobody at home to call).😊

I have space in my closet, so I hang my reusable bags on the same hanger as my coat in winter and rolled up sticking out of my purse in summer. That way I need to move them to get at my necessary items and then I put them right in front of the door as I get ready so that they're in my way as I leave.

About storing tea towels: I have mine in a drawer in the kitchen, folded Cohn Marie styles, so that I can see them all. That works well. Like Cass was saying, I don’t forget that I need a tea towel when I need it, and if I know where they are, and they’re easy to see then that’s nice :-)! And if you have too many for your space, get rid of some, perhaps!

You made me realise that I am visual person and if I want things to be done I have to place it where it meets my eyesight.

I love all these life hacks! I have ADHD as well. My memory is a running joke in my family. One thing I've found that was helpful was the Cozi Family Organizer app. It's a shared family calendar & list app that can be updated by each family member. I believe it's available on different platforms. However I'm not sure if it's available outside the US. It was the only way I had a grocery list since I was always forgetting the paper ones at home.

A long time ago I instituted one in use and one in the cupboard. I add ketchup or whatever to the list by the fridge when I finish the bottle and get the next one out of the pantry. Then I buy one for the cupboard. Less urgency.

I store my grocery bags in the car in a foldable box i got from a grocery store once. I have one grocery bag that is square on the bottom and in this one i store my folded grocery bags. I take that one ouT when at the store and then attach it to the kiddie belt on the cart . Once the groceries are put away, i fold them all back up and put them back in the main bag in the car. Works great

  • @dianaklien1560

The folding clothes problem: I pull out socks and underwear first and throw them into the basket, then I grab smallest person’s shorts, fold them and their tshirts, then the next largest person’s item doing the same, hang any clothes to be hanged. With towels I throw in the smallest items first such as hand towels and face clothes then the body towels in smallest to largest. This way when I finally get to folding them I have the room on my dining room table to fit all the things. I fold the largest first (which are the ones on top and I don’t have to dig for them) because they need the most room to fold and then place them to the outer edges. After doing the towels I can then do the clothes and they are already divided into the different people’s group, so I pull them out and place them into their own piles, and then I fold the socks and underwear and place them on the shirts, then everybody can get their pile. It works for me because I don’t have to worry about getting to the baskets right away and worrying about extra wrinkles and if somebody needs something before I get to it, I can find it immediately. It takes a little extra time at the dryer, but saves me so much time at the table.

In reference to children’s artwork and papers, it’s a whole different level with grandchildren 🙃🤣. I frame a few of the best and hang them in my bedroom and a few in my kitchen. The rest of the best I put in a binder in sheet protectors. Just dated on the back. No special order. She’s already enjoyed looking through it. She’s nine now🥰

I made a discovery box for my three grown kids for Christmas one year. My way of getting their pictures to THEM and out of my house. They loved it! They all spent hours looking and reminiscing. At the end of the weekend...EVERY KID left their box! Lesson learned: Most kids don't REALLY want our memories.

Why not involve your kids in curating the school papers that go into their boxes. You can always slip in something that they didn’t realize is important. Also, if your child has ADHD or any medical condition, save all the report cards, teacher notes, meeting notes, and work examples that demonstrate their problems. Believe me, you are going to need them all the way through college and perhaps beyond.

    • @ECasteneda2010
      @ECasteneda2010 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Those notes could really help them, as they tackle college. They are reminders that they have grown, and learned to overcome their particular challenges. And that they can do so again, as new milestones come along.

I hv a very small space, very little cabinet tops. I solved my t-towel problem by buying 3 pretty ones that coordinate with kitchen. I hang them over the lower cabinet drawers, one lft of sink, one right of sink. I use the lft one for drying hands, etc; and use the right one for drying dishes only. The third one swaps out with whichever is in laundry. I can visually see and enjoy them as well.

I’m a little late to the conversation but when I heard how many times you do your laundry…I’m not criticizing here. But how many times are you picking up and moving around the same piece of clothing? I count 4-original wash, extra fluff, smooth and place into the laundry basket, then finally put away. The one resource we cannot replace is time I find it much easier to set a timer on my phone for when the dryer goes off, then I fold the clothing or hang it up directly out of the dryer. Then I don’t have to go back and mess with it again. My future time is freed up for things I would rather do, not redoing what I didn’t complete the first go round.
