    The wrap is identical to during serving and the flame flame treating almost identical to how you would use to clean up/shine bamboo or read work. excellent job showing the whole process for those who may have less experience with these things. Brilliant video Nick!

    Good to see you back at it bro. I was having withdrawals! I'm going to us this technique on an old hickory butcher knife handle, but I'm going to do probably 5-10 layers with some cheap jute I got at dollar general. Multiple layers so that I have built-in emergency fire tinder right on my knife. That coupled with the fact that the knife is a high-carbon steel, and the fact that I keep a piece of flint in an altoids small tin full of charred punk wood in a leather Zippo lighter pouch on the sheath, and I've got a full flint and steel fire kit on my knife. I've been thinking about what to replace the factory handle with, and you just made up my mind. Great vid bro. Thank you!

    I'll be doing this, but using hemp cord/string.
    Then I'll use my special beeswax/jojoba concoction to seal it.
    I was considering a leather option, but I already have the hemp cord..
    Thanks for saving me a few $$!

    BackyardBowyer Could you possibly make a video about common mistakes and troubleshooting when crafting a bow? It would be great to have some rough guide lines for that. I tried myself at your hobbit style bow, and have a problem where when i pull the tilering string back, i get it about 14 inch draw and then the bow starts to turn in my hand. I mean i lined the ends up as much as i can, even used a stick to ensure they were in line. I think it would help a lot of people if you could talk about some common problems people have then they do PVC bows and maybe how to fix them.
    And glad to see you are doing videos again.

    • @BackyardBowyer
      @BackyardBowyer  9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It would be good to have some more in-depth videos going over how to do some of the more complicated shaping. It's hard to really get it all across in a quick video because most of that bow was done by hand and by eye aside for the flattening jig. Thanks for the suggestion!

    Hi Nick... Cool video. I always learn something from your videos. Are the bows you show at the front of the video the same or similar to the bow you show on your "how long do your bows last video"? What kind are they? Especially the "how long do your bows last video". It's a round bow with, I think, the siyas(?) made from the bow pipe. It's a cool bow but I'm just not sure what type of bow it is. I always look forward to your new videos. You are amazing. I'm a 65 year old guy who is just now trying to learn a new hobby. Thank you for all the good work! "The Rube" from So.Cal. Hoo yaa!!!!!

    Great video! I plan on wrapping my long bow grip using your tutorial. One question I have though is do you place the top of the grip even with the center of the bow when shooting off the hand, or is the center of the bow in the center of where you place the grip?

    Hey Nick, great to see you are making videos and this one was well explained as you usually do :). I have a question... So about 5 months ago, I purchased your book The Impossible Bow. I made a couple of the simple bows including the Forest Cobra and the Bison, then moved on to making the Banded Krait. One of the problems I was facing was that the bows were very difficult to draw with the exception of the Forest Cobra. To solve the problem, I left them strung for a couple days and put more deflex into the bow. However, this did bring the speed down and I was wondering if there was a way to make the bows easier to draw and keep the same speed because in your videos, you can easily draw the bow after strung it up for the first time. Any tips or suggestions would really help! :) Thanks

  • @Glader08
    @Glader08 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    looks aesthetically pleasing but i've tried this wrap on bows and to try and cover up limb areas. The jute cord almost never stays tight against the bow and immediately loosens at the slightest rub against it or slides up and down the bow. anyone have any tips for this?

  • @lorenzoscarpelli7980
    @lorenzoscarpelli7980 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I suppose a leather strap will work either, or it reacts differently?

    • @stoutlager6325
      @stoutlager6325 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Leather cord works very well for this, yeah. Obviously no need for flame in the case of leather. A dab of super glue at the point where the loose ends meet the wrap is a good idea to prevent any possibility of the thing coming undone.

  • @danielflynn9141
    @danielflynn9141 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I just finished my first jute wrap. I singed the fuzzy bits as well. I have yet to apply a finish to it. I am concerned about the cord being loose near the ends. Is this normal? Will the cord be tighter once I apply a urethane finish to it?

    • @Nikarus2370
      @Nikarus2370 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      A year late, but yes the glue should help hold the cord. Also you can grab the completed wraps (before cutting off the end pieces) and twist the whole wrap a bit tighter if you need.
