When you spoke about how quickly time passes, it made me think of this analogy I often share. Youth looks to the future through the wrong end of a telescope, making everything seem so distant. Maturity looks to the past through the right end of the telescope, revealing how quickly the distance was truly covered.

Coco, my late husband had this book in his collection. It's a fabulous book, and one I turn to when I'm missing him a lot.

Sorry for your loss. It's been nearly 27 years since my Richard passed. Time doesn't heal those kind of wounds but it makes the pain easier with which to deal. The worst part for me is going through a special day and forgetting why it was special. Hugs to you.

    • @ChristopherRuggles

@@ultraviolettp3446 It'll be 9 years for me, in a few weeks.
You're right, time doesn't heal. It just gives us the space to find ways to more comfortably carry our grief.
Hoping for pleasant memories to fill your next special day. Hugs

I didnt hear about Two-Spirit til I got older
My grams told me about them and what she was told about them
as you probably know most of our culture was outlawed and forgotten
my grams told me what she knew and was told
    from my understanding
It was our way of saying
"this is who they are, they're still our people and part of our tribe"
they still had to follow certain rules
but they were treated equal to everyone

Oh Coco, that's just so beautiful. You and your husband celebrating 25 years. Nick and I are celebrating 15 years together and yeah, you look back and think to yourself "Oh my god, time flies when you're (married) having fun" and I also can't help think that this wasn't possible for us in 1995 when you guys met nor was it possible for us in 2005 when Nick and I met. The world has come far. There's still work ahead, but I'm so thankful to be living in the time before it was possible and now. Makes you really appreciate the ones who came before us. So much love to you and Rafael (I hope I that was the correct spelling...) and many more years to come!

As always, thank you for sharing these wonderful stories with us. But I have to tell you, when you said you realized that the two of you were becoming the two people in the poem, it took me back to when I saw you in Richmond Va a few years ago. I completely welled up with tears when you were telling us of the moment realized you were standing on the very same balcony in Spain that you had always fantasized about so many times....so many years ago. I thought that was just wonderful....like something out of a fairy tale. You've been very fortunate to have lived a wonderful life with so many wonderful experiences. And I truly believe that its because of you human being that you are. You're so much more than just a drag queen (With all due respect to others). You seem to have some sort of special calling. And you definitely use it to the best of your ability in this scary, cynical world in which we find ourselves living. And for that, we are very grateful! Much love to you!

I was googling Native art several years ago and stumbled on to an article about Two Spirits. I had the biggest AHA moment. I asked my bff who is a gay man. He confirmed this as if it was old news. I’m so glad I learned this. As a straight person, it’s helped more than anything trying to understand “what is gay”? I love what I read. And it gives me a place to google to be able to understand. And I loved that poem you read. 🤎🤎🥰

We used to have a gay bookstore in Orlando. I think it was called Out Books or something obvious like that. I think it was on Mills or near there. It was an hour drive from where I lived (out in the sticks) but I loved to visit it. I'm pretty sure that it's closed (and I live in Israel now anyway) but I still love that whole area. I love to go to Avalon and Spiral Circle when ever I'm in the area.

My first gay bookstore was A Different Light on Castro Street. Before I'd go there, I'd spend half an hour in front of the mirror putting myself together so I'd look presentable. You know, as I'm crouching in the non-fiction aisle with my Ray-Bans hooked on the neckline of my ribbed tank top. Now I order everything on the Internet and dress like a slob.
