I'm a Spal supporter straight from Ferrara, i'm very happy to see a video about it on a foreign channel, let me add add some information about the history of the club. Spal played in Serie A for 18 years from 1950 to 1968, in those years the president (Paolo Mazza from which the stadium take the name) was also the coach and the manager of the team, and the club achieved a fifth place in 1960 and lost the Coppa Italia Final against Napoli in 1962. Two of the many great players of that period were Fabio Capello and Oscar Massei. Unfortunately from 1993 with the demotion in Serie C the club has gone trough 20 and more years of very deep crisis, with many president changes and an obvious loss of supporters. We are very grateful to the new owners, Colombarini's family and the president Walter Mattioli, the true makers of this miracle. Nice channel by the way, i subscribed. Sorry if my english is not perfect, i did my best :)

SPAL are cool. However, if you watch their games fairly often, you'd notice that they tend to make their own lives difficult. Their two striker system, while it's full of retro swag, makes it very difficult for the midfielders and fullbacks to find their target man up front. Petagna is big, Antenucci is extremely tenacious and creative. I'd be very curious to put Antenucci a little further back and Petagna in a similar role to his previous one at Atalanta, where strikers are almost all about obstruction. Actually, if they wanna stick with that configuration, Paloschi and Antenucci/Petagna would make a lot more sense.
SPAL are very poor when they attempt to keep their grip on the ball. A counter-attack led by Lazzari is destructive but they keep trying that possession scheme that's plain ineffective for them. Schiattarella seems like a fine man and passes the ball well, but without a healthy Viviani, that midfield is just too narrow. If only they could put their hand on a Martin de Roon...

As of Jan 17, 2024; both SPAL & Benevento lie in Serie C.
It feels sad, both were courageous clubs.
However, it is not uncommon for small Italian clubs to collapse after such impressive performances:
    - Carpi are now in Serie D after being a single point away from staying in A.
    - Crotone, who survived instead, are now in Serie C.
    - Spezia, who made the 10th place in their first season up, getting relegated on the next through a play-out, are on the brink of a second consecutive relegation, from Serie B.
    NB:
    - Benevento returned to Serie A in 2020 & went down back after one better season than 17/18.
    - After 3 seasons in Serie A, SPAL got relegated in 2020, & got a second relegation to Serie C in 2023.

Oh and the prem has no room to talk when it comes to scandals given Man City is in the middle of possibly a bigger scandal than anything in Italy. Oh and the ticket prices, you're really going there? England has the highest ticket prices in the world. Your lower tiers have higher ticket prices than even the bundesliga and La Liga. Hell every year there are protests about ticket prices.

@@Barthijzz that's why Italian teams never won the cl since 2010. What's happened to "when's the last time an English club got to the cl final?" Italian football is dead. Roma sucks. Milan teams suck. Juve is corrupt. Only decent legit team is napoli

    • @Barthijzz
      @Barthijzz 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@tenzaemtade6146 For me it's not about the top clubs, prizes or anything. It's about the stories. English Football has one story at the moment, which is money. To me that's boring. Compared to 20 years ago, in my opinion the entertainment value of English Football deteriorated badly. I followed every match from the Premier League to League two. Leicester was fun, but the clubs are losing their identity. I don't like globalisation in Football.
Again, it's not about the level of play or the trophy cabinet. But since English Football is n the rise, since the 2000's, both countries won 3 CL's while Real won 5 alone. Will you supprt them now?
I like it when there's some upheaval. Juve, not my team. AC Milan neither. I like Atalanta most, but Fiorentina, Bologna, Torino, Palermo, Sampdoria, they're fun as well for me.

Sporting KC Peter Vermes tactical profile? its an expansive and possession oriented 4-3-3.Very fit players who know how to press too. They finished 3rd overall in MLS this year
The midfield consists of Ilie Sanchez (who i call, "MLS Jorginho") at the 6 and dual 8's. theres a stable of dangerous inverted wingers to go up top, and overlapping fullbacks flanking ball playing defenders. Vermes scouts players for his system, and has a penchant for La Masia products such as the aforementioned Ilie, but also Oriol Rosell, Jordi Quintilla, and Andreu Fontas.
They have a Concacaf Champions League matchup with Toluca in febuary. Toluca is situated at 2.6k m and SKC will have to simulate the altitude in chambers prior to traveling there

I hope that Semplici will come to AC Milan in the next years (hope at the end of the season, actually...). Suggestions: talk about "How Tuscany is important in creating italian coaches". Semplici, Allegri, Spalletti and Sarri (born from Neapolitan parents, grown in Tuscany) are from Tuscany. Coverciano, the italian center for emerging coaches, is located in Firenze, too.

  • @manuel7102

Probably any other club in Italy would have sacked Semplici in October 2017, but they resisted the pressure and in the end they were repayed. Their stability and long term vision is quite rare to see in an italian side.

I follow this channel assiduously, the content is always well-researched and informative, even for veteran followers of football like myself.
It is, however, curious how consistently the narrators are able mispronounce Italian names and words. From emphasis on all the wrong syllables to incorrect stress on individual accents, every time I watch a video dealing with Italy I learn of new ways to mispronouncing Italian I couldn't otherwise imagine. The words are so poorly pronounced that if they were read with British English pronunciation with no attempt at inflection, they would probably sound closer to the originals. While my favorite creative pronunciation thus far has been "Gunnaroh Gettuzo" (but "Kag-lee-ary" comes in a close second) when I heard "sozi-eyetaah poleeporteevah ars et labor" I felt the need to pause the video and write this comment. "Leeonardo Sem-pleechee" is also worthy of notable mention.
