      TT-tech crazyness like this mainly makes me wish, that we would simplify cycling again. Why not follow the standardized rules for road bikes in TT too. It would make life much easier for aspiring riders just to deal with one bike.

    A shot of Yates bar set up would be good. I looks like his running something similar to the carbon wasp extensions Huub Watt bike run on the track. Like the speedbars on the Flying Moustache, but without the built in arm cups as it looks like he is still running the Aerocoach highsided cups. The rubber bits on the wheels are actually for aerodynamics to shield the valve and are by Silca (they come in their wheel balancing Kit).

    The dimple-bottle has the added benefit of being easier to grab while riding. Those aero bottle cages can clinch those bottles really tight, especially when new, so by making it grippier the rider won’t get as distracted when he’s trying to pry out that bottle. #AskGCNTech - Jon, what are the requirements of the UCI for pro's when it comes to equipment? Specifically, since the UCI states items must be commercially available or be made available within 120 days from prototype authorization period, how does this apply to Time Trial bikes vs their regular road bikes given the high degree of customization? Where does the idea of "equipment" end - TT vs Road? at the pads/non-slip adaptations? at the (CNC'd) risers? customized but bought equipment? Perhaps certain anthropomorphic exceptions are made (short or tall)?

    • @happydays8171
      @happydays8171 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Andrew Meyer -- I wouldn't imagine they'd use sealant because of the weight penalty X 3. Most pros use the ultra lightest tire their sponsor makes on the front, something with some puncture resistance on rear because most punctures are on the rear. Eddie Merckx would walk the pits in the morning watching his competitor's bikes. The ones with the lightest tires were the riders he'd look out for that day.

      Saddle doping, they had to get investigating that ASAP! Unless it was prescribed by your doctor, then it's okey dokey (a seldom used UCI euphemism).

    @gcntech can you ask cannondale mechanics why their superslice tt bike is sold as disc brakes, but pros ride it with rim brake. It’s so lame to see as disc tt bike with rim brakes. Cannondale your cool points are gone on this bike now.

    What’s the purpose of tubeless tyres on tt bikes, on mtb they offer the advantage of lower pressure without the risk of pinch flats but what advantages do they provide on a road bike? Are they just a marketing trend like disc brakes?

      It's all about rolling resistance. No tube means softer tyre, which means possibility for lower rolling resistance, and better grip. Similar to what latex tubes offer.

      Boris Cid Vidal -- I bought some tubeless rims on sale, 1/2 off. Best handling tires ever! I put my clinchers back on, the bike fights me going into turns. With tubeless, you look at a line you want to follow through a curve and the bike follows effortlessly. This explains why Peter Sagan is so fast on the decents, he's pushing them to the limit.

      objectively lower rolling resistance, as measured on a steel drum.
      For sure it's a marketing trend, but same as the disc brakes it won't make a commoner into a pro. It's only small advantages that may or not accumulate. Yet you still the same 2 dozen riders winning 80% plus of the prestigious races. Quite amazing.

    so we are back at trispoke wheels... didn't we have them about 20 or 30 years ago. Then they found out, that normal spoke are more aerodynamic. most of this shi** is just marketing.

    • @scotth3354
      @scotth3354 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ghostflasher depending on the particular fork, a trispoke is a very fast wheel, faster than almost any spoked wheel. The key is pairing it with the right tire. If not, you wouldn’t see the likes of Dumoulin, Wiggins, R. Dennis, Campenaerts, etc... frequently using them.

    • @Ghostflasher

      @@scotth3354 I didn't say that it isn't a fast wheel. It's just funny how they sell it again as the holy grail of aero. And yeah, the top pro ride these wheels but most of them don't really care about the material as long as it is not absolute crap.
