I'm close just from merging. It takes time but you can do it without buying the trees. Just focus on the life flowers and use moon chests if you need to.

Two things: grind and have at least 12 watermelon fruit trees, and at least 2 fruit tree wonders. Keep them with space around them, they all pop out L3-L5 trees frequently. The other thing is just grind stone and buy the chests (the cheapest one) that gives fruit trees and life flowers, buy a ton of them, then merge them all, then open them, you can grind out an L7L8 pretty fast that way. If you don't like that grind, then just do the easier route of having the watermelons/fruit true wonder set up and let it happen as it happens, forget about it and focus on events and other fun. It's not worth obsessing over the life flower chain, I rarely actively work on it now that I have a ton of watermelon trees farting out L3-L5s for me to merge.
I chuckled too... They wanted to show what kind of orb you can get from harvesting the Gossomer life tree, so he told the dragon to harvest from it & was expecting to get an orb but ended up getting a chest!😂
I don't condone piracy but I use LP for things not related to piracy. You can find it at forum.mobilism.org Lucky Patcher v6.5.0 is there, which is the latest. Great resource but you'll need to sign in. Been using the site off and on for years.

Make sure you don't have purchases disabled and keep playing levels. There is a 5% chance per goal star that it will be a dragon star. Take back to camp, tap each once, and merge five stars together. Tap them out, merge in fives, bubble the remainder, collect the level 3 gems.
Around 6:30, you have those Purple yellow tree things, those are my greatest trees. I have no money to buy gems either so I’m broke. I’m so Jealous ;-;
It’s not too hard to get your life trees. I have a couple lvl 12s. I always get at least one when the marge five event is going g because I merge a lot of flowers for the event Use stones to buy moon chests. Buy five chests and merge then open the two you get and merge the plants. Keep doing that. Not as simple as this dude hacking the game but where’s the fun in that anyway 🤷♀️

It took a month just to make a level 12.... I’m gonna be here for a while...
I increased my stone supply then bought a bunch of moon chest.
