I don’t think ppl are saying it as thee reason but ppl who are mentally Ill or are evil, usually have triggering factors. When you mix a high level of instability and life factors you can get this. You may have had difficult life factors but you are probably a very stable person so you could move on.

They aren't blaming race just saying it could add to it. White people do the same when a white person commits the same type of crime as in the case Herbert Mullins. They bring up drugs/mental health as the excuse.
There isn't a crime on earth that a black person has committed that a white person hasn't done already .Whites base everything on race when to their advantage. I always read comments that let you know it's more about who (as in race) committed the crime then the crime itself.

00:00 🤯 George Emil Banks embarks on a killing spree in 1982, leaving America shocked.
00:30 😢 Banks brutally murders his own family members, including his children, raising questions about his motive.
01:20 🏭 Background on Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, a city that faced economic challenges and a devastating tropical storm before the killings.
02:15 🚓 Law enforcement was unprepared for the scale of the tragedy; the killer was still at large.
03:10 💔 13 people were killed, seven of whom were children.
08:57 🌗 Banks struggled with racial identity from an early age, which affected his mental health.
10:23 🚔 Banks had a criminal history and served time before becoming a prison guard.
14:59 📉 Mental and emotional breakdown begins for Banks in September 1982 after losing his job.
19:26 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Banks committed family annihilation, believing death was better than life for his family.
20:33 🕵‍♂ Law enforcement had difficulty locating Banks, causing public panic.
26:50 🏠 Banks barricades himself in a vacated property for a standoff with police
27:34 🧠 George Emil Banks had mixed feelings about having killed his children; he questioned if they were still alive.
28:18 🌍 Motive behind the killing spree was to "save" his children from a perceived inevitable race war.
29:02 💀 Banks was preparing for his own death, believing he had "saved" some from this race war.
29:41 📺 Banks wore a t-shirt that said "kill them all and let God sort it out."
30:37 👮 Over 150 law enforcement officers were on the scene; Banks remained in control.
31:21 🎯 Banks was a trained sniper, posing a significant risk to law enforcement.
33:52 📻 A fake radio broadcast was used to try to convince Banks that his children were alive.
36:52 🤝 A former prison colleague of Banks, Robert Brunson, persuaded him to surrender.
37:35 ⏰ At 11:17 a.m., four hours after the standoff began, Banks was taken into custody.
38:33 ⚖ In June 1983, Banks stood trial for the murder of 13 people.
40:10 📸 Banks shocked the jury by revealing crime scene images against all advice.
41:35 🎂 On Banks's 41st birthday, he was sentenced to death for 12 first-degree murders.
42:38 🍻 Chronic behavior of alcohol and drug misuse contributed to his unpredictable rages.
43:17 🏠 The event had a lasting impact on the community; Wilkes-Barre will never forget.

I remember George on Death Row down at Graterford SCI. We had about twenty guys on DR at the time. George never gave me any problems but whenever I worked a shift on his block I did notice he was sorta high-strung and definitely paranoid. Seems it was 2005 2006 time frame he got this skin condition all over his torso and he accused the prison of putting something in his water that gave him the condition. It went nowhere for the simple reason that all the other DR guys used the exact same water supply. I did feel kinda bad for him because the other inmates sorta didn't like him. So beings the Muslim faith is really prominent in prison and whenever it was prayer time they would really get loud cuz George hated the noise. He sorta reminds you of Felix on the odd couple, kinda finicky. None of the guys on DR gave me any problems. I just did my job and wasn't a jackass officer. But if you were a jackass invariably when you least expected it some inmate would give you a "cocktail." That's when they take one of those flexible shampoo containers and they put urine and feces and blood in it and when you come by they spray it on you. Out of over 3,000 inmates there was only a handful who had aids but there was quite a few who had hepatitis and if you get a cocktail they're required to take you to the hospital. Good Times!!!😂

Really sick of hearing about the "difficult" upbringing of these monsters. FAR MORE significant is that he did an ARMED ROBBERY at age 19. That, right there, shows you the real problem: he was already a criminal. Was he the only biracial man in the US at the time? Rare, sure, but not the only one. Did they ALL commit crime? Did they all become mass murderers? No. Therefore, the upbringing explains nothing.

Learned early in life, via fairy tales alone, (not the sweet Disney versions,) but, as they were originally written, the lessons they imparted, acknowledged, experienced first hand. We tend to want to spare our children the grim realities our species presents, my parents did not in a multitude of ways. It took me quite some time to recognize and appreciate the ways in which they did, both within their personal and social issues and contributions. Yes, there are monsters among us, even children...much of my life the social question was... Nurture vs Nature? As we learn, knowledge acquired, tech advances...apply wisdom, that with attention, hope and love... we will at least, stop developing less monsters within our species.

Has anyone considered that this man was unstable because of society's prejudices at a time when he was an impressionable child, what colour was the store owner that he shot, as an adult he tried to make something of himself but seems to have developed a paranoia that increased over time, add alcohol and drugs to that damaged state of mind and you create a recipe for disaster. In no way misunderstand what I'm saying, I don't condone what he did, his actions were abhorrent and he needs to be kept out of the community and being caught and having time to sober up and perhaps see a therapist has brought home to him what he did, the only thing I find questionable is if his state of mind was so rattled at the time of actions, how was he able to remember explicitly the scene of his horrors so vividly so as to convince the court of his guilt, you'd expect someone in the state in which they describe to have a distorted memory from that time, the story while told very well seems to be missing something, those involved seemed overly sympathetic.

i must admit, that George Banks must have gone through tremendous bullying about his half race throughout his whole life, that i feel sorry for him having that done to him from a child right through to adult hood. i condem him killing his kids and family, but can see how he didnt want them to go through the horrors he went through. such a sad time between black and whites

I was 9 years old when this happened. I remember my parents talking about it, as we lived in northeast Pennsylvania and frequently went into Wilkes-Barre for grocery runs, shopping, to visit family, etc….
My mom and dad were so unsure how they felt about Mr. Banks getting the death sentence because they absolutely knew he was guilty and believed fully that there is no reason ever to do what he did. But….they also know how growing up with racism can effect people, especially being mixed race during the 1940’s - 1980’s. And everyone knows how awful northeast PA was back then…rife with racism. They didn’t even try to hide that crap. Mom & Dad were both from Bucks County PA & moved upstate to raise us kids in a “safer” environment. But keeping us safe physically caused us to grow up isolated and having quite a lot of poor influences in our school and community. 😢

Don’t talk to me about struggles. I know struggles, but that doesn’t make me better than anyone else and I certainly don’t judge others based on how I handle what life throws at me. Not everyone is able to handle the same situations in the same way.

I took care of a mentally challenged person who was related to George Banks . She hid in a closet when he was attacking family members. She would scream and cry randomly thinking of that day she'd experienced. It was so sad to see her reaction to the memories that play on repeat in her head. It always broke my heart seeing her relive what this man did. She couldn't really speak but the few words she did speak were always about that day.😢
