  • In this video I repair a National Panasonic R-441B from around 1967 and another bedside table radio from around 1971. Both were straight forward to fix with a little investigation. I recaped the 441 as it effectively the little brother of the R100 and shares many of the components.
The other one is a bit of a wreck, so I didn't go that far, but it's strangely interesting nonetheless.
These were recorded some weeks back, so my hands are still being treated.
I've noticed some glitches in the final video, was that associated with the sound failure?

Interesting looking set, there were some very good early transistor radios as long as the circuit boards were serviceable I think your wise in restoring this one. I wonder if anyone will look finally back at the one chip radios that are flooding the market today, they seem to work about as good as an early crystal set. Have Fun

Hi, the four band looks to be a small version of the R100. Same bands, but only one speaker. I'll get to the R100's one day. One has a bad dial string which is a major job to replace, and the other has pealing tracks on the circuit board thanks to my mother keeping it in the bathroom for many years!

I have a version of that radio that has two speakers. One larger than the other. Has a very unique sound. I had to replace them both when I bought the radio from a flea market. They were both open. Very unusual as I could see one being open, but both?

What a strange little radio that second one was, kitchen radio maybe?

Hi David, yes a very odd radio. It looks to be a cut in half clock radio, A/C only but no power switch. It didn't sound too bad. I guess people bought them...
