@@noneyabizniss1765 Glad to know I am not alone having this impression. Interestingly, Carnival of Souls was made two years after this movie. Who knows, maybe this movie played some role as inspiration for CoS.
I’m surprised anybody else other than myself has watched the carnival of souls. It’s really good movie. Unfortunately all I have on is VHS ha ha ha.😂😂😂😂😂
that was truly bot-boiler greatness! Lynn Staten by the way was very believable as the bad gal with that seriously bodacious bod of hers including lustrous blonde locks, nasty temperament and serious acting chops. what ever happened to her limited career. must've offended some film producer-executive with power?
This not only cheapens the real gospel, but would make vile sinners blush. Greed and lies on both sides, the root of all evil. And sadly, there's still supposed preachers like this out there, and ppl swallowing it, hook line and sinker.
I know, it's probably foolish to poke any kind of holes in a movie like this. But I did enjoy it. So I will point out something that would have made it better. Or, let's say, it would've been easier to, what's the phrase, suspend our disbelief? It's this: around 2:10 we learn that the main character has just graduated college. This is the first time that we see him in close-up. And as he's telling his girl (who looks to me to be in her 30s) that he's now the proud holder of a B.A., I'm looking at his neck, which is in its 40s, easily. And it wasn't just that angle. For the entire rest of the movie I couldn't shake the impression that he was in his 40s, although even after the time lapse through which he's established his new career, he would still be in his 20s. Anyone else notice this?
Joking aside, I'm only 20 mins in and this movie it straight-up batsh!t crazy. Only the US could spawn such a heady, demented mix of sleaze, noir and spirituality. God bless Amerikey.
@isotopefeeney I tried for a few minutes to zoom in on the street sign, which is in the same place in both shots / views, to confirm this. But it was just too far out of focus. You're probably right, but I did catch an anomaly. When we first look left, there are a couple of points of light just to the right of the sign. They then move to the left, looking as if they're traveling behind the sign, and then reappear to its left. They're also fading as we observe them. We then flip to the right, and there aren't any lights at all. So... I think you're probably right, but we're not seeing the same few seconds, just flipped. I think there was a shot lasting, say, 6 seconds. We look left and see the first 3. Then we look right, and see the second 3, but flipped. The slight variation helps to project the illusion that we're looking in both directions, whereas we've really looked in one direction, twice. Make sense?
Of all the movies ever made, this was one of them.
I wish I had said that.
Thank you. That was a beautiful, apt summation of this film! 🤣
Most succinct, underrated comment.
I can't disagree.
I wouldn't be so quick to draw that conclusion. I'm actually not sure what this is; but starting to think its a Pentecostal tract.
This is the best of TH-cam. Love it.
This was goooooooood.
The first ten minutes have the vibes of Carnival of Souls.
Yes, you nailed it! I was feeling that vibe as well, but didn’t realize that was the movie it reminded me of.

@@Scotty2hotty-xc6gi It's a great movie! I have bought the dvd, but I also found it on several TH-cam channels, I don't know if they get removed.
Guess Reverend Tad never read Proverbs 5, 6, and 7. ALL about the Crafty Harlots!
Don't know whats better, the humorously jazzy transcriptions or the cheesy but fun flicks.
Waiting patiently for Joel, Tom and Crow.
Was there a law back then that made it illegal to hire good looking male actors?
Gritty realism!
This was a B movie on a small budget. Maybe a looker would demand higher pay.
Wow..............Reality bites! True to form. Some things NEVER change!
Good film.
A compelling little low rent Elmer Gantry.
That old black magic
called love
Desire is destiny.
Is Some scenes the lead character has serious growths on the side of his face. But then the initial scenes at the college I see none (?)

Yeah, I think it's rather terrific. I made a video blabbing about it today:

Never heard of her, don't know if she ever did anything before or after this, but

this chick is a pretty good actress.
It’s funny, because when I first watched that scene, I thought “if I were her, I’d pour the drink on his head. “and that’s exactly what she did! 😂

Lyn Statten was beyond wonderful in this film. Wish I could see more of her (no jokes please!). Nice layout she says @33:30. I'll say.
Why wasn't Timothy Carey in this?
Yeah, it remained me of that movie too for a minute.
Definitely like WGS. Carey was odd.

I would give that a 10!

Left view / Right view = same shot, just flipped. Low budget genius!!
Speaking of flipping… That’s exactly what he does! No more harlot 😮

A little cornballish but WTF!
OMG It's got JOHN CARPENTER in it!! Or a John Carpenter anyway. Or a john, who was a carpenter.
Quite what the blind saw in Eddie. The Reverend was such a bore. His face would crack if he was to smile.
Lynn Staten was a hottie❤
