    I would recommend pursuing the lemon law buy back for several reasons. First, your viewers might be interested in the process since most have probably not been through it. I doubt it’s as easy as telling the dealer I want you to buy it back. Secondly, you need to make it painful for Land Rover to discourage them from making unreliable cars. You have a lot of influence through your TH-cam business that the average customer does not. Use it to help them.

    • @ggolds5
      @ggolds5 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @T L I'm well aware of this. I read and analyze Consumer Reports data since I was 11. I'm now 56. CR is fairly accurate much of the time, however, not all the time. As for LR, Cadillac, Fiat, they are pretty accurate. Oddly, Jeep is hit or miss. I never had any significant issues with my Jeeps. No more then all the other vehicles I've had. My Land Rovers were all awful, but loved driving them when they didn't break down on the NJ Turnpike or George Washington Bridge. Always the worst possible places. My Kia Sorrento was great until it caught fire and dumped all the gas in the middle lane of I91 in Hartford on a Friday night at 2am. (Kia was $47,000 and a 2016 SXL V6). Closest to dying I've ever been. My other worsts were all of my VW's accept my Tiguan which was perfect. Sorry to disappoint you, but the data is often incorrect or simply statistically skewed for various reasons.

    • @ggolds5
      @ggolds5 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @T L Now you're just sounding ignorant.You are also ignoring what I've said to get a catchy phrase that you think sounds like it may get a giggle from you're audience. My Toyotas were all excellent, so where did you see POS in my wording regarding Toyotas?. Then you say that I said VW's are reliable. I clearly stated my only good VW was the Tiguan, all the others were unreliable. VERY unreliable. My one Kia had a factory defect, overall the Sorento's are very reliable. Jeep is NOT the most reliable, I didn't say that either. I said my experience and others I know have liked their Jeeps and there are few major complaints from people I know who own them. Not all people I'm sure. I'm done waiting my time responding to your nonsense.

  • @stefanpetrut1

    I had to fight JLR for months to have them buyback my XE a few years back. I had it 8 months, 5 of which it was in the service department and the same things kept happening, I'd find an issue, record it, take it in, they find the issue but cant figure out how to fix it, wait 5 days for someone at JLR to come up with a fix and then nothing. I had my AWD system fail during a massive rainstorm, Adaptive Cruise control system fail on the freeway which would make the car hard emergency brake at 70+ MPH, 3 speaker failures, and many more issues. Every time I had an issue, I had a dedicated "Customer support" person from JLR reach out to me apologizing and saying that "This time, we'll fix it", and yet nothing. Even after demanding we do something more drastic they refused. The second I reached out to the Attorney Generals office with all the documents from the dealer on the work they did and the time it was there (about 5 sheets of paper and an hour of my time), I got a call a few days later from the Attorney General's office saying I have a case, 3 days later got a call from JLR saying they'll buy it back. Granted, I don't have a popular TH-cam channel so they couldn't care less about me, but my car was still $60k and they treated me like dirt. I'll go out on a limb and assume that they won't fix it by the 30 day mark, and in order to help their image, they'll reach out to offer you something, to buy the car back, order/find you a new one, or some sort of compensation.

    • @stefanpetrut1
      @stefanpetrut1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Jack Benton Oh god dude. Right? Tesla's come to mind right away in this situation. It goes beyond that too, I'm the car person in my family and my group so everyone I know comes to me for car advise and you can bet that if anyone brings up a JLR product, I'll tell them this story. My parents wanted to get a Velar and I just emailed my Step-Dad the 300+ emails between me and JLR and told him to study up. Sucks too because the Defender was THE car that would have brought me back to the company, but now I'm not so sure.

    Personally, I hope you guys keep the Defender long enough to see how it turns out. There a lot of comments on this issue, some hilarious, some helpful, some bitter. I also sense disappointment - we want LRs to be as good as they could be, and they can be frustrating and disappointing. Now they have gone in for some very ambitious technology, and our experience tells us it might be a disaster. But we really want it to work!
    I know you guys have no obligation to any of us, but what's interesting is that you have a great channel here, a great show, a lot of smart viewers, and care about the vehicles you test and drive. By bad luck, you have a new Defender and it's giving trouble. Does this mean every one of them is a disaster? How will LR handle it? Your publicity will give them a lot to think about, as well as educate us as to how they are going to stand (or not) behind their product.
    Disclosure: I have had five LRs, all diesels, from a 1996 Disco to a 2001 TD5 (still have it, love it), a 2003 TD4 Freelander (still have it, son drives it), two LR4s (sold one, wife drives other). So I know all about keeping them going and the pleasures and heartbreaks they bring. The Defender is exciting to me because it actually looks as though it is not morphing into the RR/LR range and looking like the others.
    Anyway, I am certainly not going to try to persuade you to keep a pile of trouble, but I would love to see the unfolding saga, and what you make of this one, if they get the gremlins out, or a new one if they give you another model. But you will be doing all of us a great service to keep LR on its toes and exposed! There are a LOT of people watching your channel, and that's good news for the consumer!
    Good luck, whichever way you decide to take it!

    Hello TFL Team. I have a 2018 LR Discovery with around 32K on the clock. Like you I had some problems with the software when I first got the car. Eventually those were (for the most part) worked out. Unlike most new LR owners I've taken mine off road in 4 states and had a blast with the car. Other LR owners don't know what they're missing out on. When the car is in its natural environment it is truly amazing. One day, if COVID goes away, i would love to bring it to Colorado and drive on some of the trails you have shown me. Anyway, in your video you wanted ideas. I have heard from several technicians at my local LR dealers that the engine you have in your Defender is the worst one. I believe it is the same one found in the Evoque. I think this is what you are likely to have ongoing problems with. If you had the 6 cylinder model you likely be much better off. So perhaps the solution is for you to use your influence and ask that they replace the one you have with a new 6 cylinder one instead. I"ve driven two HSE 6 cylinder models here and they are a blast. Anyway, that's my advice.

My L405 is less year old, completely trouble-free but it’s ‘11 L322 predecessor went 154k trouble-free miles. My partner I-pace completely trouble-free....wish I could say same of her RX450h that preceded it. My daughters Evoque had a turbo issue, but replaced under warranty and she had a Disco Sport free loaner while it was being repaired.
      The fact is all vehicles are machines thus prone to fail but the JLR products have been as reliable as any other brand we’ve owned and more comfortable and capable than any. I’m not surprised to hear electrical & ecm related issues w/new Defender. There’s a lot of new systems introduced on vehicle. None of these left you stranded, more of a nuisance than anything. I suspect if you were to sell it, you’d get your full $$ back given the demand. If you keep it, they’ll eventually sort the issues and you’ll have a rewarding ownership experience...at least that’s our experience with the brand.

    Only recently found your channel, love the video’s and being from England was pleased to see the review of the Defender when you first got it, thought it looked nice in the trim you have, disappointed to see how unreliable it is, and it has put me off buying a Discovery 5 which I fancied. Keep up the great work and look forward to more updates.

    The Land Rover Defender provides so much (negative) content that it deserves its own spinoff TFL channel.

    I really feel for you guys, how disappointing and frustrating.
    Love the car but I think if it does not get fixed before that lemon law time... just get your money back!

    This is such a disappointment.
    I've owned 3 Land Rover Discovery's & a Range Rover Tdv8 Vogue SE they performed perfectly over 450k miles or more, only breakdown was a thermostat which actually cleared itself.
    This new Defender looks like such a brilliant machine, so I'm hoping that these are teething troubles which JLR get on top of.
    Thanks for keeping us posted guys, keep up the good work.

    I have worked for this brand back in the early 2000s when they belonged to Ford. I sold them and worked on them a little. They look great and are full of promise and potential if only they had the reliability of cars from the 60s or 70s at least. I have apologised to people I sold them to, begged others not to buy them and rescued a few from that mistake. Helping someone not to buy a land rover has to be worth thousands and thousands of dollars. I have joked that I would not have anything to do with them again unless they refund all and I do mean ALL buyers every penny spent on purchase and repairs. Anyone brave enough to buy one should be provided with about 10 spare vehicles to ensure unbroken mobility and a reasonable useful lifespan for the money spent. Even with this an owner still has to have serious roadside or off roadside assistance as an option. I was hoping TATA or whoever bought them would turn things around but this is discouraging so far. If cars were ever this bad it was a very very long time ago. Better to wait for the Chinese copy if you like the look.

    I would double check on the software update all new vehicles in the US come with an 8year/80k emissions warranty which covers catalytic converter and ECM that includes the software updates.

    They gotta run a debugger on the ECU that trips the check engine light. Piece of cake. I know because I'm obviously an expert!
