As an American, what I appreciate about British and Australian shows is they only do a couple of seasons instead of ruining a show by going on too long.
Aussie here, I agree. I also feel like when I am around poms I can make jokes and banter that you guys will get, but other wouldn't. You guys aren't hard work.
I’ve always thought this, as a Brit. Australian and British humour is very similar. I think perhaps Australian humour is a little more crass and un PC.
this tone of voice is taught in psychology classes especially for those studying to be in the health proffession. Aside from Lilley's voice, this is exactly how my optometrist and gp sound like - reassuring and warm.
The whole point of the scene is that she’s just a normal kid who’s being asked a series of ridiculous questions. It’s meant to highlight how Mr G is actually perceived versus how he thinks the school thinks of him. You can imagine that later Claire sits with her friends at lunch and recounts the weird “musical pre-audition interview” where Mr G tried to psychoanalyse her by asking her if she was sexually attracted to her dog.
That was the absolute best 1 minute and 15 second build up to a joke I've ever heard. You're just waiting for the punchline and it just comes out of no where.
sansaery Why's it weird? Australia was founded by British people, who took their culture with them. The cultural links are still very close, with people moving and living between the two countries a lot. It would be weird if they weren't very similar.
when mr. g said "so you're not very fond of beckham?" claire responded "no." i don't know whether she meant "no, i'm not very fond of beckham," or "no, that's not not true." if i was mr. g and evaluting her answers, i'd come to the conclussion that some of them are very contradictory...
Mr G said "so you're not that fond of Beckham?" I think she interpreted it as "so you're not *that* fond of Beckham [to let him sleep on your bed]" rather than that she dislikes Beckham
@@apoxapex well.. yes and no. Many of the cast were real teachers and students. The principle was a real principle for decades. She was heading a Melbourne school when they filmed it.
Pretty much, if this was supposed to be improvisation, I think the girl was reacting like any teenager would in real life and then tell her friends later about the horrors she heard. No wonder this scene was deleted. Although I love Chris Lilley and he's definitely a brilliant actor, I think he should've channelled the humour differently in this scene. There's so much human material in school life, as well as in life in general and in his character to be explored that he could've used other issues in this scene. I've seen young teachers like Mr G in real life, so he's acting real people with this character.
if mr. G was asking me these questions for his play I'd flip the interview around and be like so are you attracted to boys? When did you realize you were gay. Does your father know what you're doing.
1:10 have you ever felt attracted to the dog in anyway... sexually or.. LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
"So, you've opted for earings..." 😂
LMAO it escalates so quickly. "Do you have a pet?" to "Have you ever been attracted to the dog at all?" "Have you ever wanted to kill someone?"
Hahahahaha then to “how would you describe your hair?” 😂
Omg props to that girl for keepin a straight face

This coming from Mr. G?!?
the questions he asked where things Mr. G has experienced, which makes this even funnier.
miraK hahahhaha good catch. Classic projecting.
He knows life is easier for straight people
As I said, mega fake yet oh such a caring voice.
People in these professions must practice their voices at home, because their voices are not normal.😅
I met plenty of people in the entertainment industry like this who aren't gay
I think this is the first time I've gotten ASMR while laughing
Lmfao I thought I was the only one. His voice is so soothing 😴
its not just his voice its also because of the therapy thing lol
This gave me ASMR

The Office (UK version), Alan Partridge, Chris Lilly in general, flight of the conchords, These are a few of my favourite comedies
I'm getting so many Office UK vibes from this.
He had to hold in a laugh after the attraction to the dog question.
Why did they delete this scene
