- firebrand is superior than katana...imo
The constant "PARRY!" bonuses add to your style like crazy, giving you tons of score! Emerald Blasters, Troopers, and Gunners are key to maintaining style.
While its parrying is hard to time, it's multi-slash makes up for it. Plus, it increases the explosions of parries and they do more damage. The Firebrand itself has multi-pierce, meaning it can slice AND deflect multiple projectiles at once! Combine it with the Swordpack accessory, which increases melee damage and parry damage, and you've got one heck-of-a sword!
Finally soomeone rknow the power of firebrand as a firebrand user i approve
people are ignoring that firebands parry window is actually much longer
When you know how to parry with firebrand you are basically unstoppable

"Katana is better for parries!" Mfers when I accidentally parry a random projectile and kill a horde (This has happened for the 8th time) (The extra explosion parries are insanely strong)

1. Build a wall with trowel
2. Throw coin pellets while standing on the side of wall, so your coin pellets will be kept on wall
3. Hit all coin pellets at once with firebrand

The firebrand is a more skilled weapon than the katana. Overall the firebrand its better, but the katana is simpler to use making it a popular choice.

And the the few down sides of firebrand is that if you get a barrage of bullets/explosive and parry them you might crash from the sheer amount of explosions
i use katana usually for the life steal bonus since i have a massive skill issue but after this vid i might try firebrand more often

i`m not one suited for parrying, but more of a "just stay alive"-esque mindset for fighting games, like Combat Initiation. Firebrand's sluggy delay for swinging is a bit irritating, but still strong nonetheless
usually i only end my runs with Multi-Rocket and Firebrand, and with gears. i do look forward to trying out new loadouts

I think that firebrand requires more skill to use and its better with more people and katana is best for solo gameplay (ofc this is a skill based game and like efniherlina426 said you no weapon really is trash)

I use firebrand on a daily
I don't hate firebrand but I know how to make a perfect subspace and perfect piñata, plus I often don't use it because I don't use it because of its slow slash speed.

freaking TROWEL can solo if done right. it can even interrupt vagabond. it also has a synergy with medusa’s potion, you can do the slam and make a HUGE wall. only disadvantage is that i’d say trowel relies heavily on synergies to do broken damage, but it doesn’t take away the fact that it does have that great damage.

Firebrand is pretty good but it's kinda bad at making precise, fast or small window parries for things like Vagabond's 4-slash parryable combo, king's mace (especially when aimed directly towards you) dracobloxxer's homing missiles, or it's blade. Firebrand is mostly damage-centric (being able to imbue, dealing afterburn, and generally dealing more damage per swing), so you have to compensate by using defensive weapons/gears
It rewards you when you parry them tho so it's op if you know how to perfectly parry
its not bad at any parry, its just a different timing.
For firebrand you have to party as soon as the attack animation starts and not when the attack is near you, see a video on firebrand parries

Fire brand is worse as a sword but is the only weapon with fire imbues (flamethrower only works with shuriken) and therefore is necessary for perfect subspace tripmine

@@ambush_but_the_worst My point is that the firebrand is more interesting than the katana. It has more interesting and effective synergies. The katana's main strength is its parry. But parrying isn't everything in this game.
The firebrand is great for killing enemies, and its parry is also great. The katana may be better at parrying but projectiles parried from the firebrand is more stronger and when you have dozens of projectiles firing towards you, it is very easy to parry it with the firebrand and easily obliterate hordes.
Its charged ability lets you take out dozens of hordes if theres no projectile to cause an explosion. The weapon is one of the most consistent and reliable weapon when it comes to deal with hordes.
Its fire imbuement ability lends itself to great synergies.
The most obvious are the timebomb and subspace tripmine. Combining them with the firebrand will allow you to nuke hordes of enemies and greatly damage stronger enemies. Pairing it with a freeze ray or rocket launcher will be even more stronger.
The flamethrower's canister can be used as a more easier and sustainable way of exploding hordes of enemies as the firebrand increases its explosion radius.
Meanwhile, the katana's strengths are mostly self-contained. Its synergies aren't all that interesting compared to the firebrand. It has faster swing-rate, has more single-target lifesteal, and has no endlag for parries.
