Glad you like the video. 1. It is possible that DC promo can fail. This is rare however. If this the case have a look at the message, fix the problem and run DCPromo again. 2. Part of the process of adding a Domain Controller to a domain will have it added to the Active Directory database. Once the server reboots it will start advertising it self as a DC straight away.
Is is possible to have DNS installed on a separate Server. You could also use a UNIX DNS server. If you have DNS install on a Domain Controller you are able to use dynamic secure updates. In Windows, this makes simpler. You can use unsecure dynamic updates on a DNS server not installed on a DC, however this is not as secure.

If you change the user to be a member of a group that allows this, see are default domain groups video, this will allow them access. Otherwise you need to edit the rights with group policy 1 Run gpedit.msc. 2 Expand Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies 3 Click on User Rights Assignment 4 Add the user or group to "Allow log on locally"

Just a note. It's not a good idea to use .local as a private domain suffix if you will have any Mac clients using it at any point. Apple have decided that .local addresses should be resolved using a multicast DNS lookup first and that has to timeout before the client goes to normal DNS lookup. That often means authentication fails. There are workarounds, but it's not worth the hassle really.
+Kapil Vishwakarma Honestly, it's a matter of preference and history. You can freely use a '.com' domain without issue and some argue it's better if you already own the domain name. Specifically, it can be easier to create accurate certificates for SSL.

Thanks for that. We don't have any Macintosh computers so where not aware of this issue. It looks like this is a problem after Macintosh 10.2.
