    What a beautiful double ender. Love the lugsail. It suits the boat very well.

    Really nice little sailboat. I am looking for a nice "starter" sailboat to build and handle. This one really caught my eye.

    What a beauty. I wonder how she would sail in rough conditions ? Living in French Britanny, I wonder if she would be a well suited boat ? If anybody has an opinion to share on the subject he is welcome.

    You mentioned using is heavier wind - have you ever swamped and or had the need to right the boat? How did it handle? Also what is the "real" capacity in persons?

      I have never swamped the boat , when it’s really starts to blow I lower the sail and row, especially since my sail doesn’t have reef points. I don’t have any flotation compartments, so the boat would not float swamped with a person aboard. She’s a small boat , perfect for one person , 2 people is tight when sailing. I have rowed with 3 people

    Beautiful. How many hours do you estimate would be required for a sailing rig peapod? I am just getting started on one and am very excited.

    Nice looking boat, the peapod, too bad it doesn't sail, but it is pretty just sitting there...next boat will actually sail on wind and water.

      Karl S why would you say it won’t sail?
      This is one of WoodenBoat’s top 5 choices for sail and oar boats.

      Not my best choice of words. I was reacting to my frustration, (it would have been better relax and take moment before commenting) I have been looking at and reading reviews of the Peapod and would like to build one this winter. I fell in love with Doug Hylan's Beach Peapod design, so I was so hopefull that is video would be all about how this beautiful boat sails, after all, it's the reason we build boats.
      This is the long way of saying I was very disappointed when it turned out to be just a glamour shot (I already knew she was shapely) and not about this particular Hylan design Peapods and it's pedigree and behavior on the water.

      Karl S OK I understand. I have already purchased the plans but, haven’t started building yet. I think I will go with the 15’ version however.
      I am also leaning toward the sprit rig.
      All thoughts would be appreciated!

      I am also thinking of building the 15 footer. What were your considerations? We liked the ability to sneak in two rowers at once.

    • @terryfinley7760

      @@michaelculbertson3584 I have been told that the 15 footer will row better, AND sail better due to the length to width ratio

    Liked. But why no built in buoyancy? There's plenty room under the extremities and thwarts.

    • @manfredschmalbach9023
      @manfredschmalbach9023 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why should You put in a lotta difficulties You do not need? Any hollow closed cavities in wooden structures are prone to eff You sooner or later right in the ass.

    • @corinmeehan368
      @corinmeehan368 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No need to when you can just lash in float bags under the thwarts. There's plenty of time when reserve floatation is overkill.
