Have you ever heard of "The Garbage Plate"? I think you should give it a try. Mr. H.. The Bacon that you said had a "Sweet Taste" to it may have been "Maple Cured" in which case Maple Syrup may have been part of the curing process and thus provided a sweet aftertaste.
MrH l really enjoy watching your family and food videos you all are awesome and amazing family l live in Decatur Illinois my name is Sharon Curry l am afan of all you God bless you all have a great day today and every day 😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤ My family goes back to the year 1300
Hahaha! She is lucky to have you to expose her to international cuisines. I bet she doesn't eat a lot of beans on toast as she grows up. She'll want all of our salty American food.
My grandma, who was from Alabama, used to make grits for breakfast frequently. It was heavenly & we loved them. Hers were simply topped with real butter and 2 small Jimmy Dean breakfast sausage patties, salt & pepper. No shrimp, no cheese. Just scrumptious. ❤
Million-dollar bacon AKA Pig Candy = use thick sliced bacon and dredge it in a mixture of mostly brown sugar with a dash or three of cayenne pepper. Place on a wire rack that sits on a baking sheet lined with foil or parchment paper, for ease of cleaning later, and bake at 350 F for about 10 minutes and when the sugar goes clear you have less than a minute to remove from the oven or it will burn. Best served with stuffed French toast and fruit skewers. Baking time may vary so keep an eye on it the first time you make it. If you have any of the sugar mixture left over, don't throw it out. Save it in the frig for the next time. Sugar will kill bacteria the same way salt does. Osmosis will dehydrate bacteria cells killing them. For the most part that is. It should last several weeks. I have no idea how long because I used mine up to fast, I loved this candied bacon so much. P.S. measuring is for beginners LOL
That's what I thought! But then Mrs. H said it was cream, so I assumed whipped cream, which makes more sense 😅 When I was a kid, I once ate a bite of just butter out of curiosity... I can tell you, it's disgusting unless it's spread on something 😂
Be sure to spread the whipped butter over the waffles/pancakes so Baby H doesn’t come to expect a big mouthful of butter on every plate! Mmm, looks so good!
Im from the US.... My mom loved first watch. we'd go at least twice a month. She passed in Oct of 22.... But Im glad you appreciate it. God Bless you all and safe travels.
They obviously meant those that do sell grits. And they were correct. Many restaurants don't serve good grits. I rarely get them at restaurants. Unless it's shrimp or fish and grits at a res. Because so many suck at making grits as a stand alone.
I am SO grateful to Brit and UK youtubers showing the world that the USofA is more than just fast food and junk food in a sealed package. Sure, there's an emphasis on the more indulgent dishes but it's a boatload better than everyone on planet earth thinking we eat nothing but food under plastic film. I swear....we actually do cook food from scratch, too. Fresh veggies right out of the dirt and all!!
If I remember correctly from the last time I ordered it, I think first watch uses Turkey sausage in their biscuits and gravy. Not complaining though, it’s delicious!
Elana is woofing that butter! LOL I like First Watch! You probably could get a bit more on the fork if you turned it over . . works like a bit of a scoop then...upside down just really doesn't work well! LOL Mr. H got it - flipped the fork!! First Watch is in 29 States - they are in California - Florida and Ohio has First Watch!
I think people coming here often don't realize that even famous restaurant chains are not going to be found in every state. Some are regional, some only target major cities, some overexpanded and are now contracting.
4:44 Cracker barrel uses Sawmill Gravy not Sausage Gravy. Sausage gravy will have sausage in the gravy. Sawmill can be made from either beef or pork drippings and doesn't have the meat in the gravy.
I just looked it up on the internet. There's a first watch restaurant 6 miles away from where I live. And I never even knew about it. Gonna go for breakfast tomorrow.
My wife and I go at least once a month; but it’s a good 45 minute drive for us. Kind of glad it isn’t closer though… I have yet to find anything on their menu I don’t want seconds of.
The seasonal offerings are usually fire. But only on the menu for a few months. The rest leans to lean more healthy. You can swap stuff though like the kale salad for potatoes etc. Wtf eats salad for breakfast?!
Been to a couple of them. Busy, pricy, and NOISY-like eating in a train station. Frou-frou menu seems to put avocado in everything but the coffee. Overcooked (small) frittata and omelet. Home fries were full of burnt onions, biscuits were more like overcooked muffins, and one location botched the sausage gravy.
yeah, plain grits is an acquired taste but grits done like that with broth and cheese and cream etc... It's just on another level. My favorite is when they make a cake out of the grits and pan fry it and then they pour a spicy cream squce on it with some shrimp.
You're spoiling that little girl with flavor. It's going to be tough growing up in the UK where flavor doesn't exist. Maybe the H's can bring flavor to the UK?
They are building our first First Watch near where I live here in New Jersey. I absolutely cannot wait! I’ve heard nothing but great things. Now after watching this video I can’t wait!!
Watching your faces as you tried the shrimp and grits and the hash had me practically tasting it with you. :) Watching Elana eating whipped butter? Not so much.
I'm so glad you're branching out and trying seafood. Never been to the west coast, but pretty much anywhere on the east and gulf coasts you'll get great seafood. If your in Florida in Autumn, and if you want to expand your seafood horizons, you should try stone crab claws.
I've never eaten at First Watch and there is one just a few miles from me. I looked at their menu online and their Blueberry Lemon Cornbread has me curious. Your meals looked delicious. I normally have breakfast at a little family owned cafe that's been in business since the 1940's.
Do you know that First Watch is a term that describes the midnight shift for law enforcement? I was married to a correction officer and that was the time frame
Mrs H, I noticed something with Ellana sitting beside you, she favors you alot in the face. Two words for both of you "dual citizenship" vacation here.
We're just a few blocks from First Watch and theres another location about 6 miles from our home. We dint go often but the food is great and Million Dollar Bacon is such a treat! As for shrimp & grits, it's an "anytime" meal in the South, and I make it for dinner now and then using Cajun andouille sausage and jumbo shrimp. Don't be intimidated by shrimp, Mrs H; they're quick & easy to cook and you can prepare them so many ways.
I love Elana, with her 2 rating for everything 😅. It's so sweet 🤩. You guys have tried food I never had and I am an American, born and raised in California ❤. It's exciting for me
Wow, that food looked delicious. There's several First Watch restaurants near me, but never knew that until i looked it up. Yeah, i like my white sausage gravy with the generous amount of black pepper. Shrimp n grits is heavenly buttered and i think most people add cream also, so yeah, it's a little bit different than breakfast grits. I had my eye on that million-dollar bacon. I really want to try that. Plus, the restaurant looks nice on the inside. I hope Elana enjoyed her waffle. After I watch y'all's videos, it seems like nothing that I eat is satisfying, because I'm craving some biscuit and sausage gravy and that bacon 🥓 😂.
When I make cheesy grits, I make extra and pour the leftovers into a loaf pan greased with butter, then pop it in the fridge. It gels up into a solid loaf, which can then be sliced and fried. Another variation is homemade scrapple. Cook some loose sausage (we make our own so we know what's in it), then add it to some thick cooked grits. Go heavy on the sausage--the grits are just a tasty filler here. Then chill, slice, and fry.
Glad you liked FIRST Watch. My mom and I went there the other day. We had biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs and hash brown potatoes. First Watch food is yop notch. Oh my mom almost got the shrimp and grits.
Ilana is the star here. Watching her lap at that butter, I can relate. I can eat butter like that too. Haha she is literally the best of yous in all ways. What a fun video?! Keep it up H's!❤
I am from the southern US and I like shrimp and I love grits but I have rarely found shrimp and grit combos that I actually like. The shrimp and grits you guys had looked kind of dry. Meaning they had no gravy or sauce of any kind on them. All of the shrimp and grits I have ever tried in my home state of SC had some type of gravy or sauce on them that made them somewhat tolerable for me. I have different tastes now though than I used to. I don't even like shrimp Alfredo anymore but still love shrimp scampi and fried shrimp. If you like something you like it and if you don't you don't my favorite way to eat grits is white grits (definitely not yellow grits they taste too brassy or mineral like for me) with salt, butter and bacon (with sharp cheddar from time to time).
Hello Mr H and Mrs H! Yes I have eaten at First Watch for Brunch and yes I ordered the Shrimp and Grits.. IT was DELICIOUS! They put alot of Shrimp in it. Also Mr H.... I must tell you, that you can get Recess peanut butter chocolate popcorn!!!!! I recently tried it for the first time not expecting much. WARNING.. it is very ADDICTIVE! LOL
You can ask 10 people to make biscuits and gravy and you’ll get it 10 different ways. Both my grandmother’s and my mom made the best and all 3 different.
I used to live just a few blocks from a First Watch and when I did my favorite way to spend a Sunday morning was a bike ride to First Watch to have a kale tonic & a chickenchanga or eggs benedict.
If you're away from the South like I am, First Watch is one of the few places I've found that cook grits correctly. You can get butter or cheese grits as a side. There's no black pepper in them, but that's easily fixed. At least it's not watered -down unsalted gruel like Cracker Barrel.
I might be the only person that doesn’t like First Watch. I just don’t like things that are supposed to be savory, yet have a hint of sweetness. The last time I was there (only tried it twice) I ordered the Eggs Benedict. I couldn’t figure out what they put in the hollandaise sauce to make it sweet, and why would they make it sweet. I asked the waitress and she said she didn’t know and would ask the cooks. She was super nice. She came back and said they didn’t know because they just open up the bag and warm it up.

Why didn’t you spread the butter around the waffles. She put that chunk of butter in her mouth. That can’t be good 🤮
Don't you guys worry about little miss Elana......once she turns 3, all her food rating will go from a 2 to a 3 for sure!
LOL. So true, future Chef.
Though her rating of Duncan Donuts as a two may have been a bit high…
@@CCoburn3 LOL

I gotta say that Ms H has incredible grasp of the English language. She is so articulate and expressive when she likes something. Very interesting.
Biscuits and Gravy, Shrimp and Grits, and a nice runny egg with toast is my dream breakfast.
Not every restaurant knows how to cook grits well.
Most restaurants in the United States don't even serve grits 😂😂😂
They obviously meant those that do sell grits. And they were correct. Many restaurants don't serve good grits. I rarely get them at restaurants. Unless it's shrimp or fish and grits at a res. Because so many suck at making grits as a stand alone.

I swear....we actually do cook food from scratch, too. Fresh veggies right out of the dirt and all!!
If you like Shrimp and Grits in FL, try it in New Orleans. The Cajun seasoning and sauce is amazing.
Cracker barrel gravy is made with smoked sausage and most normal biscuits and gravy is made with ground pork sausage
If I remember correctly from the last time I ordered it, I think first watch uses Turkey sausage in their biscuits and gravy.
Not complaining though, it’s delicious!
When done well, shrimp and grits are lovely. They can be breakfast, dinner, or anything in between.
Shrimp and grits? Mr. H is taking one for the team.
Think baby girl has her own rating system lol 1 bad 2 nice
Don't forget MORE!
I was going to say she rates with golf rules. Lower is better. So her two is really an eight. 😂
And yummy!
And "nice".👍
Q: What's the difference between grits and polenta?
A: About $10.
Polenta is molded and fried
@@janetchristensen7812 It's a joke. Lighten up.

Cooking shrimp is easy. Saute shrimp in olive oil and cajun spice for about 8 to 10 minutes, and you are good...
That wasn't cream she was eating, that was straight butter lol
She's turning into a real American
Those good southern style breakfast have a fulfilling, warm, peacefulness to them. That feeling is what we call soulfood.

love how dedicated to the 2/10 bit toddler H is....
Looks delicious and we all are happy 😊 that you love the American food ❤!!
Mrs. H still uses her fork like most Europeans, but Alana and Dad use the fork like Americans!
He needs to put his knife down. I can't the wiping the knife on the fork. It's just gross
I'm from Florida. First Watch is a solid option. Shrimp and Grits make the world a better place.
Elana is so cute and it's so funny how she's in on the rating 2 joke. 🤔😆😆
I just looked it up on the internet. There's a first watch restaurant 6 miles away from where I live. And I never even knew about it. Gonna go for breakfast tomorrow.
I've always had a good experience at first watch. I hope you enjoy it.
My wife and I go at least once a month; but it’s a good 45 minute drive for us. Kind of glad it isn’t closer though… I have yet to find anything on their menu I don’t want seconds of.

Elana “chipmunk-ing” food in her cheek is so cute

Yep, candied bacon is a thing

Shrimp is the filet mignon of the sea, so many ways to cook it, and really hard to mess up, mainly just don't over cook them...they become rubbery.

That bacon looked delectable.

First Watch is here in Arizona too.. it's definitely one of the better chain breakfast places.
Yay! Love your videos, so glad I caught you all. Have a great weekend. See you Sunday! BLY!

Welcome to America enjoy the food
Love the million dollar bacon 🥓 so good
There's a First Watch Restaurant within a 15min walk from my apartment in Lakeland
I used to live just a few blocks from a First Watch and when I did my favorite way to spend a Sunday morning was a bike ride to First Watch to have a kale tonic & a chickenchanga or eggs benedict.
Excellent, as always. I sincerely hope you are enjoying your trip!

If you're away from the South like I am, First Watch is one of the few places I've found that cook grits correctly. You can get butter or cheese grits as a side. There's no black pepper in them, but that's easily fixed. At least it's not watered -down unsalted gruel like Cracker Barrel.
Harvest Nut Pancakes!
Elana is tbe best fed kid in Bristol
Looks good 👍
I might be the only person that doesn’t like First Watch.
You make me afraid to go to England on a food tour. Ha
I have never heard of First Watch. I did some research and found there are 2 in the city where I live. I'll have to try it.
Cool ! Let us know how you get on ! ❤
