Cesar Millan, Dog Whisperer, Rejects Cruelty Claims

  • Dog whisperer Cesar Millan has defended himself against claims that he is cruel to animals.
The allegations were made recently in a TV interview with presenter Alan Titchmarsh after tweeting animal-lover critics said the Mexican-born trainer used violence and even electric shocks to train the dogs.
But, Millan told Sky News, he made physical contact with the dog to distract the dog from the action it was about to take - for instance, stop the dog from going into fighting mode.

First off: If the kick hurt the dog, the dog would let out a quick yelp. Ever step on a dog's foot accidentally? Second: The kick force needed to hurt a dog would send the dog flying or off it's balance at least. When being "kicked", I've never seen a dog on these episodes do anything other than look at Cesar for a split second, then return to whatever it is that originally held their attention. I've never so much as seen a dog yelp at any of Cesar's moves, at all. I could go on. My point here is, people are way too emotional about this. Nothing suggests cruelty here.

Is this a joke? Miserable people always find something to complain about. This man respects dogs to a level that most people couldn't comprehend. He takes in and loves/helps the most dangerous dogs. He's wonderful, he should be thanked. If you think that was painful in any way to the dog you know NOTHING about dogs.

  • @FishboneMash
    @FishboneMash 10 ปีที่แล้ว +196

All he's doing is trying to emulate how dogs discipline each other. And dogs don't inflict serious pain to teach discipline, so neither does Cesar. And everyone who's not completely unfit to be a dog owner will see that he only uses physical corrections when the dog is too excited to pay attention to him, so that he won't have to use force anymore. The goal is to never need anything but your presence and posture to instill respect in your dog.
I would say that it's much worse with owners who pull their dogs around in their leashes their whole lives, straining their muscles and joints, rather than just showing who's boss right from the get-go and eliminating the need for physical corrections.

Dog abuse is a dog not well trained. Nothing more sad than watching a dog walk its owner around the block. Some dogs are difficult and stubborn and tough love is necessary. We have a rescue lab mix that is aggressive and needs to be sternly corrected. No time to give treats when they lunge out at another animal or person walking a dog. They need to be taken hold of by the scruff or given a firm tap on the rump so they know certain behaviors are not allowed. Milan is great and his techniques work.

I have watched Millan's shows and he does seem genuinely compassionate towards the dogs and he gets results. His work is more subtle and more carefully timed than most people can manage, so what is a touch or a tap from Cesar can turn into a blow or a kick when someone else tries to do it. I have also noticed that he does not use food, which is the main motivator for many positive reinforcement dog trainers.

Every single thing that Cesar has shown on his show that I have used has worked! It didn't change my dog either! He's happy all the time! I love Cesar Milan! I would never believe anything about cruelty from him because on his shows he is very humble and if he is wrong he will admit it. A person like that is a rare person. A person like that would never abuse an animal.

to me, a kick is forceful, sharp (uses toes often), and intended to hurt the dog. this was him putting his foot behind him, and crossing around his own back to bump the dog with the side of his foot. in that movement, it's practically impossible to get enough force to really hurt an animal, and he is clearly not using much force. the dog did not yelp or cower or look for reassurance, the dog just turned around like "what was that?!" i do not interpret this action as abuse.

i like cesars methods more because its a mor natural state that the dog is in, other than a treat because imo, the treats make the dog a robot to commands

AngryPOV correct my aunt always give my dog treats but before she gives him his treats he has to give right paw, left paw, both paws then gets his treats and now everytime she wants to give him his treats she doesn't have to say anything he already know what to do.
Kinda sad actually he is such a robot that he starts to give me a paw when i want to give him a treat and i didn't even wanted to ask for his paw

Cesar is a fantastic person who has acres of knowledge and experience of how to correct and raise dogs the RIGHT way intended for them. I think that people who are interpreting him as 'cruel' really should watch an episode of the dog whisperer and actually ask themselves if they can control a pack of 30+ dogs like Cesar so calmly does.

People really are too sensitive nowadays. That was a tap for crying out loud. There was no anger or aggression behind it. The purpose was exactly what Cesar said "To snap the dog out of it". He does that with many dogs.

She would walk for a neno second and start sniffing again so I gave her a little tap. And it worked there is nothing mean about it at all . If people really want to get upset they need to confront the real animal abusers the ones who intentionally hurt there dogs ..

The problem with a lot of American TV and all around the world, is you simply cannot believe what you see. Just today I read that his team get the dogs worked up into this state etc so he can act this way with them. I've had a reactive dog and his methods do not work long term, they infact make it worse. What does work, patience, love and a gentle hand.
Who would you work for the bully boss or the one who treats you with respect. Dogs arent stupid.

I just got a dog, and I am using Cesar's methods... and my dog is a puppy and he is behaving wonderfully. I haven't used the heel tap yet, because he's quite small, but getting the focus off of other dogs and on me, just works. A calm submissive dog is the kind of dog every owner should want. Mine doesn't bark, doesn't whine or cry at night, still shits and pisses in the wrong places, but I am pretty happy with the progress so far. Only had him 2 days so far.

I understand the grief that Cesar gets from people who lack appropriate knowledge about dogs. We had a Canadian Sled Dog or Inuit Sled Dog for 16 years until we had to put her down when she suddenly developed a huge tumor which caused total paralysis and blindness. Mandy moved when my sister moved- her new neighbors reported her to the Humane Society for having her sled dog outside in below 0 degree Fahrenheit weather ( with a proper shelter available) The officer came to the door and started an official report. Mandy's vet was in charge of the local Humane Society and couldn't believe it. He made the officer apologize to Diane. He gave education about this ancient breed that took explorers to the North Pole and were used as working dogs by the Eskimos.

I have a toy fox terrier/pomeranian mix. The pomeranian in him makes him nervous and the terrier part of him makes him domineering. If I hadn't used what I learned from Cesar to understand this little fella, he would have been an unmanageable little nutcase. Before I started training him, he was snappy and scared all the time. It took some work, but now he's the cuddliest, cutest little dog in the world. Because he trusts me and respects me, he can relax now.

  • @urbanrat84

In fact, parents could take some lessons from Cesar. He never raises his voice or yells at a dog from afar or acts frantically at a dog. I've seen plenty of people yell frantically and loudly at their children and their dogs exactly the same way. The only message that the children and dogs get is that you are emotionally unstable, not in leadership or control and they can't trust you.

An Canadian Sled Dog also known as Canadian Eskimo Dog or Inuit Sled Dog was used to this type of weather and native to the Arctic. We were given Mandy as a puppy by Diane's coworker who couldn't care for her anymore . They are required for transportation in areas of the Arctic where there are wolves or bears because they can detect them from a distance. They look similar to a wolf but show no recent ancestry. I remember that Mandy howled instead of barking. We had to put an egg/ oil in her diet and had to vigorously brush her coat. She would rather pull kids on a cart than take a walk. We had to cut and thin out her coat in summer and she swam to stay cool. She would come in the house once a year to receive her Christmas stocking and presents and could only handle the warmth for 30 minutes before having to go outside. We lived in the country and she had a lot of room to run. This wouldn't be the dog to have if you live in an apartment or in the city . This isn't the dog to have if you expect an inside dog and, don't have time to give it a lot of intense exercise- they love to run and jump high. Owners who have more than one of these dogs usually keep them in large outdoor kennels and sometimes have to keep them separated , although they are a pack dog.
