Punch Needle for Beginners by a Beginner! | Yarn Scrap Friday

  • This Friday's tutorial comes courtesy of Clover, one of my all time favourite craft companies. They very kindly sent me their new Punch Needle and Punch Needle Hoop to test out and as a beginner who's known about this craft but never tried or understood it, I was keen to give this a try.
What's great about this tutorial is that I share with you what I didn't understand and what I discovered as someone who's never done this before. At first I found it confusing, "why is this a craft?" I was saying laughing, but after some trial and error I understood my mistakes and absolutely fell in love with this craft. Made all the easier by Clover's, as always, high quality products. My words, not theirs!
I hope that by showing you where I went wrong and how to make this work, you too can get started with a very fun, creative new skill!
Edit* Someone has said the yarn should also go through the hole at the end of the needle so do try this if you give this a go, although it still worked for me lol
The fabric I used is called Monk's Cloth, a loose weave fabric available at most haberdashery places.

Every Friday I will be releasing a quick and fun crochet project for you to help use up all those left over yarn scraps. I hope you enjoy and feel inspired. If you have ideas for future Yarn Scrap Friday tutorials then do let me know in the comments below!

Hi, I'm sorry for commenting on your video, but the yarn has to go through the hole at the end of the needle as well.
Don't take this the wrong way, but it makes all the difference in stitch security. Anyway I do Love your work. 😍

Lol missed that on the instructions, but don't worry this by no means is an expert teaching - pinning your comment so others see 😅🙏

OMG Laura, I am so glad you reviewed this ❤️❤️❤️❤️ I have been on the fence about buying the hoop and needle as I used to do cross stitch and embroidery but my eyes are going with age, so I quit. Thank you so much for helping make an educated decision. 💗

AHH. I have started learning punch needles a couple of years ago but I didn't know how to secure my work and what fabric to use. Thank you for another excellent tutorial that is really helpful and useful. Take care of yourself as continue enjoying Hungary. Until next time.

Thanks ever so much! This may be just for beginners, but it is the most helpful tutorial I've seen yet! I learned about needing a special hoop the hard way and almost gave up because it kept slipping...lol. I was also using sub standard cloth for the backing...lol. Thank you again, and best wishes!😊😊

You're so welcome! Apparently you have to place the yarn through the hole at the end as well but hopefully this gives you a good head start at least he he I'm still learning!
