The scene of you trying to give it the staff to hold, only for a bunch of it to crumble in your hands is pretty reminiscent of what it was like when I was a kid. Trying to play with this toy, without it losing all of its armour, was pretty impossible
I remembered when this was released in America in 1994 and here in NYC specifically it was almost impossible to find except for one hobby shop close to my house where it had a price tag of $95 U.S! I still got it cause I absolutely wanted it but I had to use all my saved allowance and begged my parents for the difference.
I've still got my Thunder megazord after all these years. It's my 2nd favorite megazord ever. I was devastated when the Thunder megazord and tigerzord were irreversible destroyed in Ninja Quest.
Morphinominal!!! I'm glad that you still have yours! My brother and I used to have this Megazord toy! I'm sorry to say that it got junked in the mid-2000s.
Oh and Griffon was a better choice for names than in Dairanger because the yellow one was a Giraffe. So we had Lion, Dragon, Pegasus, Giraffe and Phoenix
Always a great review. I just got mines on Ebay recently over the summer. I got all five of them for an awesome deal. Including the tigerzord. I bought them piece by piece. Also one of my favorite megazords. Just like you Power Rangers was one of my favorite shows back then. The simple and basic times.
When it was first available back when I was a kid, I had to get the red dragon separately with the thunder assault team. They didn't have the whole set anywhere at the time.
Had this set as a kid. It was probably one of my favorite toys for a long time. Seeing that darn helmet keep falling off brought back a lot of memories... I tended to have trouble keeping the Thunderbird "skirt" on, too.
Haha good ole Roches Stores my original Dino Megazord still has the Roches price on the box as well love it!!! Thankfully for me though trips to the UK and toys r us became my heaven for buying Power Rangers.
These were the first zord toys I ever had as a kid. I got the Red Dragon sometime earlier in the year, and then ended up getting the Assault Team for Christmas. I noticed that even though the knee/leg parts are black on the toy, they're gray on the back of the box! (Speaking of which, I had no idea they ever sold the full Thunder Megazord set in one box...)
This mech and thunder gridman (released in the same year) are the most unique compared to the old sentai robo or the old Japanese robot anime which has the theme of one robot upgraded by another robot as an armor
I had the original Thunder Megazord in my collection years ago. What was different about the Thunder Megazord I had was the weapons. While others had a gray plastic sword, mine had one that was chrome. The Firebird Thunderzord also had a gold chrome tail while others had a gray plastic tail. Looking into it on the internet, I began to realize that my Thunderzord Assault Team set was more or less a direct repackaging of the original Japanese set. The stickers on my Thunder Megazord were the same as the others. I also had the White Tigerzord and it also had a gold chrome tail. I believe that too was also a direct repackaging of the toy because other Tigerzords had a gold plastic tail. The nostalgic feeling hits me every now and then that makes me wish I hadn't sold all of my Thunderzords on eBay. The recent legacy versions kind of make up for that, though. I'm still glad I have the Thunderzords back in my collection in one form or another.
Always found it odd the Pterodactyl (actually a Pteranodon, of course) Dinozord and Firebird Thunderzord, despite being the Pink Ranger's zords, were actually red...
Also, If you know your mythology, there's the 4 guardians of the cardinal directions, Digimon did this in Tamers with the cards. There's the Dragon, the Turtle, the Tiger and the Phoenix. which is 4 of the 7 zords in the show
This is so amazing, iv been binge watching ur videos for days now and thunder megazord is one my favourite, then to only find u got it in Ireland (which is were I'm from) and the picture of Roches Stores you used was my local one in a place called Blanchardstown in Dublin. anyway keep it up I love ur work :)
When I was a kid I had the red dragon zord. Never got a chance to get the rest of the other deluxe zords but when the legacy thunder megazord came out I bought it right away. Cool video!
6:14 did you know that depending on how you orientate the red dragon shoulders during combining, you can actually get a significant amount of extra arm articulation?
I spent a little over $500 for the artisan release megazord and tiger zords. They came with the dairanger crystal balls. Thought it was a lot I'm really glad I got that version!
the thunder megazord was the most functional combination of the original zordon era zords. ASTRO megazord takes a close second the basic let's armor up one zord megazord was better defensively as attacking the knees of the og would possibly break apart the tiger/triceratops leg from the ttrex knee
Shame that the transformation sequence from Dinozords to Thunderzords used rather stiff looking toys, setting the precedent for S3’s Titanus and Pink Shogunzord! Although I kinda liked how they gave the Lion Thunderzord back legs just for that sequence, although it was strange as not even the DaiRanger filming miniature had back legs, but didn’t bother to paint the face green. or change Mastadon’s orange shoulder ‘M’s either. I wonder how much of DaiRanger’s designs were influenced by Power Rangers carrying over ZyuRanger designs? I mean, each Zord from both sets more or less performs the same function in Megazord mode; Mastadon/Lion are arms, Tyrannosaurs/Red Dragon are the main body, and Blue and Yellow are both legs. The only real difference is Pteradactyl/Firebird but it’s still a central component.
Good point. How wild that they gave the lion back legs just in that one sequence! I assumed the Sentai model had them but maybe they were American only? If so, that's one zord they improved with their own footage.
powerrangertube powerrangertube No the DaiRanger model was as the standard toys are with front legs only. That transformation is the only time! Shame they did pay the same attention to the Shogun Ultrazord. If I remember correctly they also gave the Saber Toothed Tiger articulated legs too. Kinda bizarre really that they’d take that much effort on the lion just to create a continuity error that would have been avoided had they been lazy for once!
growing up the only zord toys I had was the Red dragon thunderzord, the Ninja megazord and the zeo megazord. but dont have them anymore. now as an adult, I collect any original power rangers toy whether on ebay or convention. this year started working on getting a completed thunderzords set. Right now have a near completed Mega Tigerzord. Only thing missing is the firebird, and the jewel in the crown (plus tigerzord orbs and tail/sword). going to get the firebird, red dragon, helmet and sword when i can
Actually, America changed three of the zords Firebird thunderzord- Phoenix (no point there) Unicorn thunderzord- Pegasus (although in the show and toy, it had no wings) Griffin thunderzord- Kirin (apparently, the Chinese first saw a giraffe wend thought it was a mythical beast and named it a kirin?)
KaleidWinter Pegasuses did have wings but in the show it didn't for some reason. Well yea griffin was a Kirin which some people interpret it as a giraffe or a unicorn? Also i never understood shishi, how was there a mythical lion?
Both Unicorn and The Griffin have wings kind of melted into their bodies. That's why they can fly, because. I understand and I completely agree why their changed the original Dairanger names. The difference between an Unicron and a Pegasus is the horn. It makes no sense call it Pegasus if it has a horn. Kirin is a Asian metrology of chimerical create very similar to a Griffin, so the it would me assembling to western culture. Kirin is a specific type of the lin mythological family of one-horned pointing backwards beasts that could fly. It was never a giraffe, but it was often mistaken by. Check this article: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qilin
Red dragon is my favorite red ranger zord period. It's basically a megazord on it's own. And I will never understand why they had dino megazord return in the dino seasons crossover or why they bothered with it. The magic of a teamup is having the actual rangers of two teams or more unite. Only having Jason return with no other in person mmpr or dino thunder rangers just sucks the magic away. I doubt they would've gotten everyone to come back but it just feels out of place to only have one of them return. And dino megazord returning makes no sense. I haven't watched it personally so maybe it makes more sense in the episode, but dino megazord shouldn't even be there. The only zords that could've returned for mmpr would be the ninja zords and dragonzord, since I don't believe they said the ninja zords were actually destroyed. I've only watched season 1 and 2 and not all of those seasons so I may be wrong on that. I know for sure the shogun zords weren't destroyed or at least were scrapped to make the zeo zords. Really wish they would make it canon which zords were scrapped to make the zeo zords so we know for sure the fates of Tor, Titanus, and shogun. Unless they have in spin off material. Back on track, really silly that the legacy version doesn't have the firebird feet. This megazord looks like it suffers a lot from loose parts due to the design of it. but better than legacy dragonzord's megazord that's for sure.
RW:at 2:08 I could only imagine if all the Megazords that I see 👀 on the screen right now, what would happen if all of them fused together?😕I get it would become the Ultimate Megazord.😁
i have no money currently and am seriously considering getting the remote control version, don't care if it works or not, long as it looks good enough on display
I remember I had a friend that had this one and he did not like it he said parts of it did not stay together good at all and it wasn't fun to play with because of that
To be honest, I really hated this toy when I was a kid. I had two versions of the original Megazord. One was the cheaper 8" version, where only the legs could be seperated, and the other was the Deluxe version. I loved using the Deluxe version for playing with the different zord combinations, making the MegaDragonzord, Ultrazord etc. But when it came to fighting, the cheaper 8" version was much much better, because it could take a beating, and I could move it around as I pleased... The Thunder Megazord toy only had the Deluxe version, and you could not move it around without parts of it falling off. Pretty to look at, but impossible to play with...
@@genericpersons5103 yup. Unfortunately the person was unexperienced in packing and the red dragon thunderzord has an arm broken that I need to get replaced

Kimberly's was a Phoenix in Dairanger. Billy's was a Pegasus. I firmly believe that they called it a Unicorn because of the actors orientation and they were very anti pride back so they were making fun of him quite a bit

The unicorn was a Pegasus not a Phoenix, the Fire Bird was a Phoenix, and the griffin was a qilin(pronounced kirin) which a Japanese unicorn.

Thunder Megazord, Zeo Megazord, and Ninja Megazord are my all time favorites from the Zordon Era

Taking out the Lightning bolt stickers, I'd say the Thunder Megazord looks great with the arms being black and gold.

You SAY it's stupid, but I'm pritty sure a lot of parents HAD to get them separated

i was bought the assault team, but never had the red dragon. i always wanted it ....still do.
Dear lord. XD The Thunder megazord's armor must've been oiled up or something.
I remember I had a friend that had this one and he did not like it he said parts of it did not stay together good at all and it wasn't fun to play with because of that
I had a hybrid of the rubberized ones where the helmet had the gold chrome, but the rest was the same
2:15 that's serpentera
He's a samurai ding dong
I actually like buying things separately..from a collectors perspective it’s more fun
Hope we get a SOC of the Season 2 Zords

Nothing of the sort. The English Lehman translation is Unicorn. It literally is a Pegasus.
