Raised singing Gospel and discovered singing in church, Cliff Nobles is forever associated with the instrumental, “The Horse,” which was the backing track of his vocal “Love is All Right.” Ultimately “Love is All Right” itself became a standard in the Northern Soul repertoire, but with “The Horse” reaching No. 2 on the US pop charts and becoming an international hit, Cliff Nobles took a while for his forceful and expressive voice to emerge in such releases as “Let’s Have a Good Time,” “The More I Do for You Baby” and “Judge Baby I’m Back,” while his name also graced charting instrumentals like “Horse Fever” and “Switch It On.”
