I thought we only had alligators in America, not crocodiles. Or am I switching the two?

A professional reptile keeper in Florida told me the American crocodile is dominant to the alligator, and workers take extra precautions when they enter their enclosure. Since these are the same species which are man-eaters in Central America, why does academia and wild life officials in the US keep telling people American crocodiles are shy and harmless.

American crocodiles are among the least dangerous crocodilians with slim records of attacks on humans, calling them "deadliest predator" is just plain stupid
