It took this train 5 1/2 hours from Nairobi to Mombasa . This train was very slow but comfortable . Customer service was really good .

Actually the only difference between the two is that the old train came early and has a limited speed but it doesn't mean it can't be upgraded to match higher speeds, the US uses the same type of train only upgraded above the speed limit (armtrak)

But the whole south of Africa has a vast railway network of 1067mm gauge. It was more practical to convert your 1000mm to 1067mm for interconnectivity

Pity that they didn't make a line for 160 kph or evan 200 kph... It wouldn't be much more expensive I guess... But still 120 kph is a progres :)

It’s only slightly faster than the old train

people have forgotten that the reason the old railway died was because of vested interests not because it was slow or outdated.
The vested interests have not been removed, so why will this one succeed were the old one failed?
all I see is debt wrapped in a bow

I pity at you low self-esteem and confidence, and lack of Knowledge, ignorance the most.
      First, it's just 700km.
It's overpriced and hyped railway built entirely by China, even half of Labourers were Chinese.
Spent Loan amount 4.8 Billion for 700km. Insane. Hard loan for merely 20 years. (India built 3400km in $12-14 billion).
It's in $200++ million in loss since 3 years of operation. They shut road transport to increase freight revenue.
      They defaulted on loan payment.
It's simply a debt trap by China.
World Bank didn't gave loan because it wasn't feasible.
3400 km India's DFC got WB soft loan.
      You need to study.

The new modern train is more technologically advanced than the one built over 100 years ago, now you don't say CGTN.
It does look cool though, congrats Kenya

He said the original rail cost 5 million dollars, but he didn't say that 5 millions at the time are the equivalent to 150 million now. Well, I hope Kenya develops fast and reach prosperity, but they shouldn't trust the chinese so much, the chinese they never enter in the game to lose, take a look at what happened in Sri Lanka www.forbes.com/sites/wadeshepard/2016/07/31/china-to-sri-lanka-we-want-our-money-not-your-empty-airport/#43fe7cbc1beb

@@RogerRamos1993 The British built that railway under colonial rule with Indian Slaves creating zero jobs for the locals. China is doing genuine business with Kenya & passing down skills. Kenya should definitely trust China over those colonial hangovers. The west has never been of any help to Africa just a bunch of enemies.
