Hi everyone! I FINALLY have my Google Slides templates available for purchase if you are interested! Here's the link: bit.ly/brightgoogleslidestemplates Hopefully this helps save you some time and makes your life easier!
I have watched several videos on Slides, but you are by far the very best communicator I have heard. Your students probably have no idea how fortunate they are to have you as a teacher. I'm not a teacher, but a retired pastor attempting to make use of this technology to teach a distant (because of this pandemic) Bible Study weekly. Thank you so much, I've subscribed and rang the bell and always give you a thumbs up. God bless you young lady and your family.
I'm obsessed with Google Slides, and I've been using it for teaching for an entire year, but I still learned a few cool new tricks from this video, and I honestly LOVE the simple, yet bold design of your slides. I use templates rather than making my own from scratch, but I think I might use yours, even though I'm a history teacher! In particular, I love the idea of a single Slideshow for each unit. I've been breaking up my Slides by day, and every time I do it, I groan internally, thinking that all of these are going to be so hard to keep track of next year. Keeping all the units in one slide and hyperlinking the lessons is FREAKING BRILLIANT. Plus it saves me time of having to reformat all my text/backgrounds etc!
I am a complete newbi with online teaching. From South Africa and in the lock down period. Everything and all I know I have now learned from you. You provide such a valuable source of information and all this while you are teaching and studying. Well done and thank you!! When I start panicking I know its time to go listen to you again. THANK YOU!
This is one of the most helpful videos I've seen in a long time! Been a teacher for 10 years and now I have the motivation to redo all of my lessons with Google Classroom! Thank you!
You have helped this older (I'm 61), non-techy person survive this digital teaching world we are living in right now. Thank you for taking step by step instructions and talking in basic English that I can understand! You have been a life saver!!!
We also use Google slides at my business to make our flyers, pamphlets and other printed materials. It allows you to position objects wherever you want even up close to the edge and it will still print. There are a lot of native printing options that all work very well. The finished product usually looks great! On a separate note I make a table in my first slide and put hyperlinks in each cell. Each hyperlink can link to a youtube video, another slide in the presentation, an audio file (directly in the slide) or a google drive file. This is great for big presentations. I have a presentation with over 800 slides and this helps to navigate within it while also bringing in other materials from outside. Great video!
You are an amazing resource for your staff and the rest of your distant colleagues. I, too, am a 4th grade (veteran) teacher learning all this new tech stuff and I have to say before watching your videos, I was overwhelmed and nervous learning all this but now I feel like it can be done. You make it easy to follow and do. THANK YOU! Keep the videos coming.
Its amazing. Instructions are very clear. I never edited any slides before, be it Powerpoint or anything. I watched this video once, creating my slides while watching, and its done with ease. Your students must feel so good to have you as their teacher.
I love the way you explain everything so precisely and clearly! And the way you did not edit out the "bring to front" error was fantastic because you taught us from your own mistake. And your attention to detail when creating makes everything look so beautiful and neat. What an awesome tutorial. Thank you!
Thank you thank you thank you!!! I am a first year, old lady teacher and this is my first time doing this type of lesson planning using this type of technology. The hyperlinking hack is fantastic and the idea of having the colors as a visual bookmark is so smart. I know this will help me get started on creating my first lessons. Thanks again!
Thank you so much! I am a high school English teacher. I was tormenting myself with tying to come up with a simple, yet visually appealing google slide deck for my classes. I was even willing to pay for a template - but none were ascetically what I wanted. This short video was all I needed to start creating my own slide deck! THANKYOU, Thank you! Now I can focus on planning!
I'm so happy this was helpful for you Hollie! If you are interested in saving a little time, I do have editable templates available in my store here: bit.ly/brightgoogleslidestemplates
I am obsessed with you! I am not tech savvy and have to teach online for the rest of the year. Your tutorials are fantastic. You are also inspiring me to be more organized. Thank you.
Great video! (BTW, I'm a web developer, and Hex Codes are actually only the # (octothorpe) sign, and 6 characters, in any combination of 0-9 and A-F. So, a nice shade of gold is #FFCC33. Your favorite pink is actually just #FF0099, and you can even abbreviate pairs to #F09. ;) Hope this helps!
I wanted to say THANK YOU VERY MUCH! I used this video as my tutorial to start working on my presentations. I love you! Everything was nice. My professor congratulated me for the presentation. Thank you Jessica YOU ROCK!! God bless you.
Could you please share an example of your reading slides? I love your math ones, but I only teach reading, writing, and ELA. I'd love to see yours for inspiration! Thanks for all you do!
THANK YOU so much for this! I'm starting at a new school this year and will be making slides for my lessons for the first time, but have been so overwhelmed with where to start, how to make it cute and how to make all my presentations cohesive (but not run myself into the ground or waste all my time doing so), etc, etc, etc. Your explanations coupled with the screen recordings were so clear! I followed along and made a template for myself to copy and paste and use over and over again this year as I'm learning this new process and getting into a groove. I REALLY appreciate your time and thoroughness with this video. So helpful!
Thank you for all your work on your tutorials! They have made my transition to teaching virtually much less painful. My kindergarten students love them so much! I have shared your TH-cam channel with my entire kindergarten team!
I love all of your videos! I am learning Google Classroom and Google Meet for the first time this week, and all of your how to videos have been super helpful. Thanks so so so much!!!
You did an amazing job explaining this process. I am blown away at how great you made your slides look and linking them was awesome. Thanks for sharing your knowledge
I would be interested in how and what you do for reading slides. I also teach reading and only use slides for Guided Reading rotation choices. I'm in same county:).
I love your teaching and your perfectionism. I also think colors and fonts are so important. I am teaching remote now, like so many, so this has been so so so helpful. thank you.
Thank you! Due to Covid-19, I've suddenly been launched into online distance teaching. Your well-polished and well-organized tutorials will definitely soften the landing!
This tutorial was INCREDIBLY helpful! I make a powerpoint so I can stay on track as well but did not know about the hyperlink...I will definitely be doing that from now on.
THIS RIGHT HERE...is what I love! Give me all the tutorials on the Google slides! 💓 LOVE this video! Practical stuff that I can do! Thank you for sharing 💛
You are awesome. I am a retired public school teacher who will sub virtually this September. I never used Google Classroom and your videos are so easy to follow. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much. I'm a veteran teacher 6 years from retirement. I've been using slides regularly in my lessons for about 3 years, after getting Smart TVs in our classrooms. Your slides are so sharp. The techniques are reasonably short to make such professional, appealing slides. I have been a faithful Arial user, but your display of Oswald and Century Gothic makes me think otherwise. Thanks again!
Thank you so much for this video! I use google slides but just for basics. You helped me understand how to do a few things I didn't know how to do like resize the paper size. I am also glad you are feeling better. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
This is SO GREAT! I'm (so far) the one 4th grade teacher doing remote learning this fall, I will NEED TO KNOW this and your video was great. I opened a slide presentation next to the video, stopped and started, and made my first one while I was watching. I am pumped. Thank you so very much for making this clear, concise video (and for leaving the mistakes in and showing everyone how to keep on going).
Hi, Michelle! great tutorial...just a thought...instead of taking the extra steps of creating a bar for your title and then another text box where you write the unit and move things' order....which takes time....why don't you just format the text box...it's done in the power point...I'm pretty sure from what I saw on the screen it's done on google slides as well. You know...just write your text, and then format the text box, fill it any color you want, and change the font color...
I am so glad there is someone else who color codes everything! Great tutorial! I make a lot of slides for teaching, too, but I still learned some shortcuts. Thanks!
Thank you soooo much for helping me! I am a Mom and a business owner. This is helping me with both. I now have a clear understanding on how to make my own presentations.
I would like to thank you for this tutorial. I have identified you as one of the presenters I can actually learn from. As a middle school reading language arts teacher who teachers 3 MODS and 2-grade levels I wanted to take my instruction to another level for distance learning. We just started a new unit and grading period so I found this video at the perfect time. I literally listened, paused, created, paused, listened, paused until I created slides for lessons 1 and 2. I then created the hyperlinks by listening, pausing, applying what you taught and so I am on my way. I have already subscribed, liked, and will share as the RELA Department Chair for this year. God bless you and thank you again for who you are. I really needed a new level of educational inspiration...I FOUND YOU!!!!
Wow! We are moving to complete online learning and students will need to be able to download their work 1x a week so it can be done at home without internet. We have been trying to figure out how to create something that only needs one download but includes several assignments. You are a savior!
I really like your slide prep here! I m curious about the colored slides - do you use all colors in EACH lesson? If so, I am curious how you progress through the colors when there may not be 7 different activities in a single day? (IOW would you give your rationale for the use of the colors other than knowing when you are coming to the end?) Each of my units conveniently contain seven lessons...so I was thinking of using one color per day. Thoughts?
Really great question! I'm curious about the answer as well :) I would imagine that could be helpful for students for the reason that you suggested, in being able to quickly judge the pacing of the lesson as it is occurring...I would have LOVED to have that feedback during the lesson in my experiences as a student, and I would imagine that many other learners would appreciate it similarly. My thought about the rationale if a justification were needed for the use of color progression would perhaps be to help learners with diverse needs that may struggle with transitions (ie. Autism, ADHD, and even learning disabilities in general)...not sure if that *is* her reasoning or not, but it's just the thought that came to mind for me and seems like it would be a valid way of justifying it as evidence based if necessary (at least in a general sense, if there is no evidence in support of color progression specifically [I have no idea if there is] I would feel like just the help in visual transition for students with learning disabilities would be sufficient justification if one is needed). I'm super curious now actually, haha...I really want to research more into the color progression in lessons, this is the first I've come across the idea and I love it so much! I'm sure it seems silly to be this excited over color progressing slides, haha, but as someone with ADHD, time can often feel very abstract to me and any strategies that help to make the passage of time feel more "tangible" are super helpful for me. Being able to have such simple visual cues integrated into the lesson would have helped me better conceptualize the pacing of the lesson and therefore help reduce anxiety and increase my ability to focus on the material being presented. I missed so much content in school because of my focus legit being on focusing/mentally processing that we were moving on to the next subject and only realizing that the lesson had started when it was already halfway over! I realize it is a fairly trivial detail, and judging from the other comments I'm reading, I think I'm the only one geeking out so hardcore over this, haha, but I guess that is part of the reason that I felt like sharing my experience, because maybe it is insignificant to most but if there's a handful of students who would benefit as much as I feel they would, it seems well worth sharing about, especially considering how easy of an intervention it is for educators to include! It seems really cool to think that such a simple method of using a visual countdown could be embedded within the lesson itself, rather than *solely* relying on interventions directed specifically at one/several students, in a manner outside of the lesson. Not only could the visual cues help students with the pacing of the lesson, but it might also be helpful as a natural "countdown" for students who struggle to cope with transitions (such as those with ASD). I'll stop my geeking our ramble now, haha...I get excited by random things, thanks for letting me share. :) Also, just wanted to mention to anyone who might try this out (and just in general), don't forget that some of your students may be colorblind. Be mindful as well that different people can struggle with different colors, so if two people are colorblind, one may be unable to differentiate between two colors that another person who is colorblind can differentiate. Not necessarily relevant for this topic, but someone I love experiences colorblindness and he was often met with teachers who lacked understanding, and admittedly, I never learned anything in school for education about accommodating those who cannot see the full spectrum of colors, so while it seems fairly "common sense", it seemed worth mentioning that if a student says they do not see a color as different from another color, they likely are telling the truth and see two (or more) colors as the same, so just work with them and don't hold someone accountable for something they have zero control over. It can get particularly tricky, because there is no internal way for the person who is colorblind to know their perception of a color is faulty. Not necessarily relevant for this particular thing, but it could be, because while it doesn't typically matter if someone sees the slides as going from orange to red to pink or if they might see it as 3 shades of red, some people may not see 3 shades/colors at all, they may see all 3 colors as the same shade of the same color, and they have no way of seeing that everyone else sees 3 different colors when they see one. The student could end up in trouble if they are then told to start at the red section, and their eyes see the orange, red, and pink sections as the same shade of red, so they would start at the orange section without knowing that, to everyone else, it is orange. My brother is colorblind in atypical ways and ended up getting a lot of teachers angry at him, despite him explaining that he is colorblind, so just a random PSA in case anyone reads my ramble and might otherwise not know how tricky colorblindness can be for those experiencing it ;) Thanks for reading :)
You may know this, but there is a link button up on toolbar, makes it easy. Also a AWESOME little trick I have learned to make font larger and smaller much much faster is to hold down on the shift and ctrl buttons at the same time and push < or > to make smaller or larger. SO FAST and EASY! Great tutorial. I also love adding transitions to mine, with the answers, especially for math.
Thank you so much! I just loved having the transcript with time stamps and captioning on. Your instructions were concise and so organized. You made learning about Google Slides and Hyperlink a breeze. I appreciate all the hard work and time you put into making this video. Many thanks! Sandy
I always enjoy your videos. I like your idea of resizing the slides. I just added a icon at the bottom of the last slide of each lesson to link back to the table of contents slide. Thanks again.
Wow! I always watch makeup videos while getting ready for school....so glad I was curious this morning! This old dog has been limping along with basic google slides , with some days, not even limping, but completely stumped or uninspired (especially with those colored themes 😕). I can’t wait to take these tips and incorporate them into PearDeck, which is what we teach with, so our students can interact and still “socially distance”. I am definitely going to check out more from you channel. I am a perfect example that learning is fluid and should never be static! Have a great day shaping lives! 🍎 🍏
Thank you so much for this video. You reminded me that simple can be cool and showed me how to stop working so hard. Also, I knew you could link to other slides but I never put it together mentally to use a table of contents. This is going to help me and my kids so much. I just finished creating the slide set for my 3 preps. Now to copy and paste and fill in the info. I appreciate your work.
Thank you so much for this video! I can’t wait to start doing this for my lessons! Question about the table of contents: If you add a slide (or two, or three...) after you’ve competed the table of contents, do you have to redo all the links?
You are so clear and practical in your tutorial. I tend to shy away from new technology and/or more modern ways to use technology [e.g., switching from PowerPoint to GoogleSlides]. However, you've converted me. Thank you!!!
You can add a little button (can be any image you want, even a text box) and hyperlink it to the menu, when you have it, you can just copy-paste it wherever you want it in your presentation.
Lol, I thought an “I can” statement was like a positive affirmation for the students until I saw her type it in and realized it was what we call “a learning target” here in CA. Comment what you call it, I would love to know!!
In Australia, more specifically the state of victoria we call it a learning intention and rather than starting it with "I can" we start with "we are learning to..." and then follow with success criteria "I can do..."
@@jessicamacdonald5151 In CA we do the "I can do..." as the only one. It's interesting how we have some things in common, but it always varies a bit from place to place.
Thank you so much for your wonderful help! I have been teaching for 21 years, and technology is not my specialty. However, I have a strong desire to learn, and you are an excellent teacher! Thank you from the bottom of my teacher heart!!
I LOVE your channel!!!! I'm learning soooo much and feeling more organzies and confident as we get closer to schools opening at the end of the month for me. I'm so glad that I found your channel. 🤗
Hexadecimal Color Code applies to color in *any* digital display... Google away! Try typing in any 6-character combination using 0-9 and A-F, and you'll get a hex color! For example, my favorite shade of Gold is #FFCC33. ;) Hope this helps!
You are fabulous. A God sent. Bless you. Thank you. I had to subscribe to your channel. You had my attention the entire time. I can link my lesson 1 to it's slide and so on. YES!!! Thank you. Time to get to work. I must share your video.
Wow! You not only show us how to create Google Slides, adding the rainbow colors is such a logic and beautiful way to organize your work. Also, I totally understand the time saving value of making duplicate slides!!!!!
I liked the ideas you presented in this video. I may use your lesson for one of my tech tip session this next year. However I though I would share one suggestion for you. You use a lot of all capitalization in your titles, readers use the clues from the height of letters to decode words. This is particularly helpful for those in the back of the room to decode the words even when they may not have a complete or totally focused view of the projection.
Hi everyone! I FINALLY have my Google Slides templates available for purchase if you are interested! Here's the link:

@ontrada, are you an English teacher? You know how to use hyphens correctly!
Very helpful, clear, uncluttered, and applicable. Keep up the excellent work...and now you have a new subscriber...much better than any PDs so far...
This tutorial was INCREDIBLY helpful! I make a powerpoint so I can stay on track as well but did not know about the hyperlink...I will definitely be doing that from now on.

You can convert all of you powerpoints to google slides easily.
Thank you so much! I can't understand why others word would click on thumbs down for this video. I learn so much from you. You energy is infectious! 😀

Yes she is...I have learnt so much from viewing her tutorials.
I just finished student teaching and am excited to start using slides. I am brand new to these. This was very helpful. Thank you!

You could also change the master and make this whole thing into a template - way faster!

Thank you soooo much for helping me! I am a Mom and a business owner. This is helping me with both. I now have a clear understanding on how to make my own presentations.
LOVE this tutorial! Now I'm going to see if you have any tutorials specifically dealing with how to bring photos/images into the slides.
Thanks!
super easy, just push the + button up in toolbar. and they are much easier to resize and move around on slides than they are on docs.
You are a God send! I am teaching from home now and this is awesome!
I would love to see more of your ELA lessons!

I would imagine that could be helpful for students for the reason that you suggested, in being able to quickly judge the pacing of the lesson as it is occurring...I would have LOVED to have that feedback during the lesson in my experiences as a student, and I would imagine that many other learners would appreciate it similarly.
Also, just wanted to mention to anyone who might try this out (and just in general), don't forget that some of your students may be colorblind.
My brother is colorblind in atypical ways and ended up getting a lot of teachers angry at him, despite him explaining that he is colorblind, so just a random PSA in case anyone reads my ramble and might otherwise not know how tricky colorblindness can be for those experiencing it ;)
Thanks for reading :)
Fantastic video my friend! I also LOVE that sweater on you. 😘
Thank you so much! I just loved having the transcript with time stamps and captioning on. Your instructions were concise and so organized. You made learning about Google Slides and Hyperlink a breeze. I appreciate all the hard work and time you put into making this video. Many thanks! Sandy
Thank you!!! This was extremely helpful for a struggling technologically challenged new teacher!!! 💕👍🏼
I always enjoy your videos. I like your idea of resizing the slides. I just added a icon at the bottom of the last slide of each lesson to link back to the table of contents slide. Thanks again.
I love your videos! I want to teach middle school history when I grow up. :)
Hi love you so so much you inspire me and motivate me to work harder every day. again love 💕 you so much
Can I just say you are saving my life!! I'm a non-techie math teacher in Canada and I'm learning soooo much!!
I would like to see an example of slides you’ve used for an entire unit, just to cement the application in my mind. Thank you.
Such an great creative teacher with full of cute and creative ideas
I thought I was a google slides pro but I never thought about hyperlinking! Also, you can make your basic slideshow a template to save time.
Hi, Betony! How can I save my own template in Google Slides? :O
You are so clear and practical in your tutorial. I tend to shy away from new technology and/or more modern ways to use technology [e.g., switching from PowerPoint to GoogleSlides]. However, you've converted me. Thank you!!!
Thanks I’m a kid but needs to make a slide show
Chow Chow Teddy same!!!
Same with my college professors.
same with my college professor. She'll make us do power point by the end of semester.
YES, GO OFF QUEEN!
Thank you for sharing. You explain very well and are very creative. I have watched several of your videos and they have been very helpful.
Now that most teachers are in remote teaching mode it would be helpful to see your reading slides.
By the way I love what you do!
This is like the best explanations I have ever seen and heard. Very much useful for my classes later.
18:10 How do you “Go Back” after you have gone into the slides from a hyperlink? Is there a hot key that returns you back to the menu?
You can add a little button (can be any image you want, even a text box) and hyperlink it to the menu, when you have it, you can just copy-paste it wherever you want it in your presentation.
That’s a brilliant idea! I did it. Helpful especially if you have over 300 slides.
@@gicelahernandez8792 Thanks Gicela
JD Hopkins, great question and thank you for asking it kind sir
To go back or undo we press (ctrl + z).
GREAT. I love all the specific direction you gave to help us create lessons. Thank you so much.
Lol, I thought an “I can” statement was like a positive affirmation for the students until I saw her type it in and realized it was what we call “a learning target” here in CA. Comment what you call it, I would love to know!!
Learning standard
learning intentions
In Australia, more specifically the state of victoria we call it a learning intention and rather than starting it with "I can" we start with "we are learning to..." and then follow with success criteria "I can do..."
Learning standard is what we call it in NC
@@jessicamacdonald5151 In CA we do the "I can do..." as the only one. It's interesting how we have some things in common, but it always varies a bit from place to place.
Im a first time google slide user, thank you for your explanations, examples and positive energy!!
I just learned how to hyperlink the table of contents the easy way 😂
Thank you so much for your wonderful help! I have been teaching for 21 years, and technology is not my specialty. However, I have a strong desire to learn, and you are an excellent teacher! Thank you from the bottom of my teacher heart!!
This is an amazing Google Slide tutorial! I just love things to look neat and simple. Thank you so much for sharing!
I LOVE your channel!!!! I'm learning soooo much and feeling more organzies and confident as we get closer to schools opening at the end of the month for me. I'm so glad that I found your channel. 🤗
You are an amazing teacher! You students are lucky. Thank you so much for sharing your gift!
Totally needed this tutorial - now can you just put up this one as a template on TPT to help this first year teacher, lol! 🤣
I love the idea of putting the entire unit together! This will make things flow very nicely. Thank you
Essential Question: What back up plan do you have in place when your school's internet or school district's internet services go down for hours?
Lyle Springer I don’t believe this is a default setting. I believe there will be a pop-up asking you to enable it.
It’s offline are wifi went down and my teacher could use google slides as long as it’s downloaded not on google
I love how easy your tutorials are to follow. I am just learning how to use slides.
I love you! Who else? ❤️
👇🏻
Lib Colyer Me.
Completely impressed. Would like to learn a little more about slides and drive
stop like begging
Me! 🙋🏼♀️
Great video! Loved and I will definitely be using your style...I like it.... I am totally into color for the organization.
+Pocketful of Primary Can you do a video dedicated to Google Slides Hex Codes?
Hexadecimal Color Code applies to color in *any* digital display... Google away! Try typing in any 6-character combination using 0-9 and A-F, and you'll get a hex color! For example, my favorite shade of Gold is #FFCC33. ;) Hope this helps!
Love it! You are so helpful to teachers who are older because we are not so tech savvy!
Some efficient shortcuts, please; I teach 28 different classes, seven different grade levels. Thanks. I am enjoying your presentations.
I congratulate you because the illumination and the decorations of your set are awesome. Obviously, your videos are quite useful. Thanks
This was so helpful and the linking to the slides will for sure be a time saver!
You are awesome.. If the teaching is fun, we have so much to do and to explore.. You made us feel like that.. Thanks alot sis
The hyperlinking table of contents is genius😍
Excellent demonstration! Your modeling is on point. Thank you!
I would love to see how to do your reading google slides.
You are fabulous. A God sent. Bless you. Thank you. I had to subscribe to your channel. You had my attention the entire time. I can link my lesson 1 to it's slide and so on. YES!!! Thank you. Time to get to work. I must share your video.
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! This is truly a time saver and really enhances my teaching delivery to my student. I love it!!!
Wow! You not only show us how to create Google Slides, adding the rainbow colors is such a logic and beautiful way to organize your work. Also, I totally understand the time saving value of making duplicate slides!!!!!
thank you this helps SOOO much!
