Following its successful bids to operate the Chabahar port in Iran and Sittwe port in Myanmar, India has secured a strategic win by winning operational rights for the Mongla port terminal in Bangladesh over China. It is the country’s second-largest seaport after Chittagong and the move is being seen as an attempt to curb Beijing’s ambitions in the region.
