Escape Route History:
In 1942, during World War II, Madras City was bombed by the Japanese but the physical damage was negligible, though the public response was major and the city was evacuated because of fears of subsequent Japanese bombing and invasion. In preparation for a possible Japanese invasion of India, the British began improvements to the road to facilitate its use as an evacuation route from Berijam Lake near Kodaikanal along the southern crest of the Palani Hills to Top Station. It was then called "The Escape Road". Existing roads then continued to Munnar and down to Cochin where ships would be available for evacuation out of India.
The road was operative till 1990 but was ignored by both the Tamil Nadu Forest Department and the Kerala Highways Department in a dispute over its inter-state ownership.

நான் கடந்த 2003, ஏப்ரல் மாதம் கொடைக்கால் to டாப் ஸ்டேசன் வரை உள்ள நீங்கள் கூறும் பாதையில் பயணித்துவிட்டேன். கொடைக்கானலிருந்து கேரளா எல்லை அருகே மரியன் சோலை என்ற தமிழக வனத்துறை கட்டிடம் இருந்தது. அதில் ஒரு இரவு தங்கினேன்.அந்த கட்டிடம் 1904 ல் ஆங்கிலேயர்களால் கட்டப்பட்டது. இந்த பாதையில் நடந்து பயணித்த அந்த 4 நாட்கள் வாழ்க்கையில் மறக்கமுடியாதது. இயற்கை எவ்வளவு அற்புதமானது என்பதை அறிந்தேன்.

This brought my lovely memories and still feel heavy and emotional when I think of Berijam. It is very close to my heart and made many friends in my new school. We camped beside berijam lake for 5 days in 1998. It was in January and it was very cold. Around 25 of us along with a our guide (ex man) and a cook. We stayed in the tents. Had camp fire every evening. Everyday we trekked to different areas that includes madikatan forest, sholas, remember walking to a small waterfalls (had to climb rocks), trekked to see rhododendron trees, cauliflower forest... Back then we only had film cameras and most of the pictures were either over/under the exposed. Dont remember which animal stood outside our tent for a long time in one of the nights. None of us took bath in the 5days.
I wanted to go again in 1999, but my parents didnt allow me. I wish to go someday again and thats my dream.

Myself and my friends tried to go to Munnar from Kodaikanal thru this road. But, Permission was denied. It will take only one hour to Munnar instead travelling down all the way Kodaikanal road and take route thru theni and cumbum which will take a min of 7 to 8 hours.
As soon as u explained about the 2nd animal I subscribed ur channel bcoz of ur interest on animals , very presice detailing. Super bro, all the best to get more subscribers soon..
The guide is telling that due to density of the forest we tend to miss the route, but it's very common in a dense forest to miss the route. Our elders will not keep names to places without any reason. What the guide is telling may be it is only his view.
Bcoz I read the book " life of an yogi ", auto biography of yogananda , in that book he has mentioned that during his tour for himalaya with his master, he will go to a restricted forest area even though his master has warned him. After crossing a particular distance in that restricted forest area both him and his friend had lost their consciousness & memory too for more than a day.
after spending more than a day only yogananda regained little consciousness & after a very hard struggle he regained a little memory of who he is & where he is. He waked his friend & took him out of that forest. He mentioned that It took hours for his friend to even remember his name after even after they reached his master's hotel room. .
when he met his master, he told about some rare flowers & it's very strong smell which collapsed their consciousness. His master also mentioned that the same flowers which is in "madhikettan solai " .
The lilliput stories may be fake. But I Hope that guide would not have reached that flowers area.
