Here is an idea that might help you out a bit, Go to a gravel/sand pit that washes their products. Ask for their "Fines" it's the finest material that they wash out of their products. You'll find that is a much better material for your models to work with.

I have 3 excavators now my latest came from France and is in the box at my house I'm having it shipped to my current location as I won't be home again until July and I can't wait. haha I'll post videos soon.

Nicely built excavator. Only minus; it moves as quick like a 5 ton machine...A 130 tonner will have much slower movements..

+Hector A. Thanks for your feedback. They are both in 1:14,5 scale. The 956 is "just" a 56 tons machine, the big one is a 150 tons mining monster.
