I almos tstart to wonder if the album bass track was done on a fretted bass.. it works just fine on fretted imho.. :) I prefer when I cover it, or ghost it as they say on the bass (play over the track) to use Drop D tuning, though. that way the E, for one becomes, the 2nd fretted note on the bottom and yo can give it more punch.. or bottom end, I think.. and also you can do the E to higher E slide with much greater effect. David played bass on the studio tracks of most of the popular songs like this one on the album btw..
