If you're the adventurous type, you'll probably be back to get one later. •Don't be afraid to point out/repeat what you're looking for/at. Budtenders are also human. They make mistakes, and sometimes, what you want is at the very back of the shelf, and they might need help finding it. Edit: This is more a tip for me. Get 3 different strains at once. I typically go with Candyland, Tangie, and 9 Lb. Hammer because I deal with chronic pain, depression and insomnia. I purposely get two that overlap so I don't end up with "vapers tongue" (an issue I noticed I brought to weed vaping from nicotine vaping)
At the beginning of Covid my wife and I visited a dispo in Co. Was not allowed to smell the jars. Dude pulls out a small handheld fan, opens the jar and blasted me. Best thing ever.
MD med card holder here. This is 100% accurate, I have friends that are all about only smoke 30%🙄 I got this flower that’s 18% and it’s some of the best flower I’ve had in the dispo period- also my nose happens to LOVE the smell. It’s about the profile not the numbers

Also Maryland card holder and weed farmer here and 100% agree you are ahead of the curve on weed knowledge. Terps, smell, strain, taste, whole profile matters far more than thc or cbd% and people will learn that but for now enjoy your cheap but amazing bud that's under the 25% or so they start making it expensive after. I've had some 16% bud beat 30% before when I've had both and compared them side by side.

Coming from Oregon, I was surprised how awful and expensive dispos are in Cali. You're better off in Black Market. In Oregon it's stupid cheap and budtenders still let you smell and look at the product up close
Best way to get cheap bud is to look for home growers, because some of us grow pounds and pounds of weed for basically the price of water and fertilizer. I think in Oregon we have some rule that says you can grow 4 plants per lot. Doesn't really stop any of us from growing more. BTW, homegrown done right is better than 95% of bud sold at the dispensary. This last season was amazing, I knew tons of people who grew some of the best cannabis I had ever seen.
@@barefootbreezy6983 , If you have any disc golf courses in your local area, lots of growers play disc golf. If you ask just about anyone 21 and older who is disc golfing if they have some bud, 9 times out of 10 they at least have a stash with them. They often sell most at tournaments.
Oklahoma - Best Cannabis Program, "PERIOD". You haven't shopped until you've been shopping in Oklahoma. Low taxes - Great prices - Unbelievable number of Dispensary's and even more when it comes to vendors and choices. If you're a medical cannabis patient card holder and live within a reasonable drive time to Oklahoma, You seriously need to look into their out of state medical reciprocation. It will save you money 💰 🤑 💸.
@Coldspell Don't know what dispensary you are shopping at, but I've got nothing but great products. Granted, I'm not the typical consumer. I'm picky and shop for what I know works for me. Oh, BTW. Oklahoma doesn't vote on legislation until March 2023. They are only medical as of this comment.
The synergistic effects of all the different phytochemicals is what changes the high. If a shop displays the terps and other cannabinoids in the test I go by the terps rather than THC and it usually does me pretty well to get what I am looking for.
My FAVORITE dispensary does sales every weekend, on a variety of products and strains. The budtenders are always really helpful there, too. They let me look at the bud and smell which jar I want before I buy it, too, which is awesome
I grow for HOTBOX here in southern California and we have our harvest dates on the packages. I love looking at the harvest and thinking to myself, "Yeah, I grew that."
Smashed that like button for 'Price is an important number' hell ya it is! I recently started smoking again and upwards of $20/g is 'normal' around here. I used to give that for a 4 finger bag!! One tip I think you shoulda mentioned is if you have a local dispo, like mine's literally 5 minutes down the road, be a regular and get to know the employees/managers. They smoke the same thing you're about to smoke. Remember their job is to push certain products,but get to know them and you'll get some solid recommendations.
I've had 30%+ stuff that was fine but nothing special and some lower %'s like 15-18% that knocked my socks off and tasted so good. Truly, the only way to really know a strain is to try it yourself. Also I'd recommend signing up for text notifications for sales and ask if the shop has a rewards or loyalty program (if local laws allow those promotions). Like Cewpins said though: be wary of sales that seem TOO good.
I train my staff to have our guests first look at the flower, then have them smell it. Those 2 things will help the guest know what their body craves. Terpene and thc content working together is what people need to look at. % doesn't mean a thing. People don't go to a wine shop looking for the highest abv percentage they're looking for something that tastes and smells good too. It's an entire experience. This is how we should market cannabis.

Interesting, I have been consuming different hybrids from 3 different places in the past few weeks, not impressed at all smells fantastic but not very effective all upper 20's %. now today I grabbed some indica from truelive. $12. My store has online ordering and curbside pickup which is awesome. I score ounces anywhere from $80 to $120. I'm just too stubborn and cheap to pay for overpriced 1/8ths so I chance it every time. Most hauls are ok.
I work in the industry and at least in my state, when you see something huge like 40-50% it’s typically bc it’s the last one of a batch. It doesnt mean that it’s old or bad tho. everything is tracked from the state, all the way from seed to sale. So due to regulations we’re not supposed to Open a new batch before the previous one is sold. If there’s only one or two left, they put it on sale to get rid of it quicker, to get more product on the Floor

But I completely agree with you everything is a hybrid. But there are things to look for considering the high you want
ive found the best way to find a few nice strains is to find a dispo that does a lot of bonuses and deals and just stack coupons basically. Bonus prerolls, bonus 1/8s, $25 ounce if you spend over 100, etc. if your dispo has online delivery, ask them about specials in the order comments and they'll call/text you and if they're cool, find you deals.
Where do you get your Live Rosin from (and other concentrates as well)? I am in Florida as well. I like the Live Rosin from Grow Healthy, but I have not tried a lot of places. 🙂
a dispensary just opened up LITERALLY right around the corner from my house, it takes me about 10 minutes to WALK there, get my stuff, and get back home. and they have weed wednesday which is a percentage off certain flower, and i’ve noticed it’s always the lower quality brands. which i get, it probably boosts their sales a lot, but it sucks to pay a lot for decent bud.

On the subject of hybrids, leaf size can determine indica-dominant vs sativa-dominant. Short broad leaves = indica, long slender leaves = sativa. Also, indicas mature quickly, while sativas take months to be ready to harvest. If it's labelled one or the other, I trust that the grower knew what he grew. The highs do generally differ as well. Rarely does an indica give me motor-mouth energy, and rarely does a sativa put me to sleep. As for 60/40, 70/30 dominant etc., I agree. Probably not accurate. I love your channel, even if I disagree with your take on some things.
How do you feel about the listed terps on products? I usually buy based off those. My favorite are Myrcene and Limonene. Also is there a weird science with which terps go together? Like does combining specific terps make a better high? I'm like a Journeyman smoker right now.
There’s something called the entourage effect which is believed to be what occurs with the thc and combination of terpenes, cbd, and other minor cannabanoids. This explains why weed is always so different since each of these yields within the plants depends on the strain, grow conditions, and much more
yeah man i only got my card about a year ago but i’m extremely introverted in the store i work at a store and i know workers have to just provide customer service and at dispensaries you can tell they throw in the same routine every single time and it sucks when you’ve gone to the same place and it feels like they don’t rly know you and i always overthink everything i hate feeling like i’m making things awkward can’t help but think that 😮💨
Here in PA it's still medical use only and we have to place an order online. It's a crap shoot!! You can't smell, touch or see your order until it's paid for and out the door
Here in Canada where I live you can’t even see it cause it’s already packaged and if you did want to see it you have to go to the dispensary site . Another reason why I just grow my own , I only buy their concentrates .

I’m basically over the “legal weed” most of the packaging is sealed so you can’t smell it. I remember before my dealer was always about the smell and look of freshly brewed. If I can’t smell it then I can’t trust it
When it comes to deals at dispos (and smoke shops, for stuff like pieces and what not), it helps to subtely ask what the deal is for. Is there a special occasion? Likely a real deal. If their reasoning sounds fishy or doesn't nake too much sense, it's likely not as good a deal as you think.
@@coldspell8676 actually there is such a thing, You just can't go by the Indica sativa thing to make those determination is what Cewpins says. That is correct, everything is a hybrid, half the time when you go in the dispensary that's what they're asking you is, do you want an upper or a downer and there is such a thing. Such as myrcene is a downing terpene which is common in most indicas which is why we used to go by Indica for couch lock because myrcene is couch locking terpine, and combined with limonene for instance is a good lead towards is sedating effect for 'most' people. For most or some people was another point Cew made. Because of everything being a hybrid you may find something that grows as a sativa but rather still has lots of myrcene or other terp that effects you that way so therefore has a sedating effect to you. You can still plan to buy weed with a sedating or uplifting or... effect is what he said. Limonene combined with caryofolene makes for a relaxing yet uplifting experience for 'most' people and if inflammation bothers you then this combination or a combination that affects your inflammation might make you feel better Even if you're looking for more sedating effects because you may have other underlying discomforts that you need to seek appropriate terpenes for. Go by the terps. Smell to verify what terps work for YOU. There are generalities that will 'Help Guide" most users if you go by your experience and you can get benefit from talking with a bud tender, and listen to your nose and learn the turps that effect you rather than THC numbers. Have freshly harvested, it is and how fresh your grind. I think you need to listen to Cewpins again. He didn't say there is no way to tell, he said it's individualized and here are some things you can better go by than "THC numbers or sativa/indica". He Did Not say that because everything is a hybrid that you can't tell. What he said was sativa and indica are no longer an independent standard to go by to gauge uplifting versus sedating. He said what things you could more trustworthily go by to make that type of determination. He did not say you can't go by anything, so I'm not sure what your reason for attacking somebody regarding what they got from this video is for. He was paying a little bit more attention than you appear to be to the messages in the video.
Your first tip is the most important one of all ong. I go into the dispo and ask to smell every strain and pick the best one or two. They always got like 12 strains and 2-3 of em smell gas
I mean you can measure what terpene percentages from a single sativa are normal, and what percentages of terpenes are in a single indica, and test the resulting terpene percentages to determine the ratio of indica/sativa. Terpenes are what denotes strain identification. So that process is completely valid. But im guessing they do not test every plant, just a few out of a batch and mean it out
as for the first tip i’ve never asked to smell anything because i know trulieve for example seals their containers do you think dispensaries such as curaleaf, fluent, liberty, muv and all else who DONT seal their containers where you can just simply remove the lid would let you possibly smell the bud before you buy? i could seriously just ask but i haven’t ever really felt the need i just so online orders most the time

Up in Canada it's great we have legal dispos in every province but for a lot of the stuff, I'm not able to get dispo weed thats fresher than 3 months in the bag.
Picked up some bud a few weeks ago and got home and saw that it was packaged in July of 2021. The guy must've known cause he threw in a free 1/8 for me when I only bought a 1/4

WA state rec shops: Can legally in shop only visually inspect product, and most growers and processors know looks are how rec sales are made. Don't expect to pick "the perfect eighth" as often there's too little product in stock, or simply a tender has little time to look (especially if you're doing an online order). Top shelf brands like Cookies will blind bag *everything*. Up until recently it was legal for concentrate producers to use chemicals to wash a mediocre extraction job a lighter, more appealing color with little to no benefit. Some brands have a very deep spiderweb of brand names, processors, and growers - do your research as it's not always possible a budtender will know everything.
Back when i used to peddle weed back in the 90's one of the most commonly used tricks i used was to burn an incense while having " guests" this is so they couldn't smell the difference between 30$ quarter bags and 40$ quarter bags. You tellen me dispensaries dont do this?

While you are correct in that everything is basically a hybrid, they are trying to let the consumer know what to expect in terms of affects more so than the actual chemical make up of the product - I'm a huge sativa by day / indica by night person and while you say everything is basically a hybrid, you can't dismiss that some weed strains give you energy/is stimulating and some weed strains have more physical heavier affects which is objectively true

On the subject of hybrids, leaf size can determine indica-dominant vs sativa-dominant.
Short broad leaves = indica, long slender leaves = sativa.
Also, indicas mature quickly, while sativas take months to be ready to harvest.
If it's labelled one or the other, I trust that the grower knew what he grew.
The highs do generally differ as well.
Rarely does an indica give me motor-mouth energy, and rarely does a sativa put me to sleep.
As for 60/40, 70/30 dominant etc., I agree. Probably not accurate.

How do you feel about the listed terps on products? I usually buy based off those. My favorite are Myrcene and Limonene. Also is there a weird science with which terps go together? Like does combining specific terps make a better high? I'm like a Journeyman smoker right now.
There’s something called the entourage effect which is believed to be what occurs with the thc and combination of terpenes, cbd, and other minor cannabanoids. This explains why weed is always so different since each of these yields within the plants depends on the strain, grow conditions, and much more
yeah man i only got my card about a year ago but i’m extremely introverted in the store i work at a store and i know workers have to just provide customer service and at dispensaries you can tell they throw in the same routine every single time and it sucks when you’ve gone to the same place and it feels like they don’t rly know you and i always overthink everything i hate feeling like i’m making things awkward can’t help but think that 😮💨

Here in Canada where I live you can’t even see it cause it’s already packaged and if you did want to see it you have to go to the dispensary site . Another reason why I just grow my own , I only buy their concentrates .

I’m basically over the “legal weed” most of the packaging is sealed so you can’t smell it. I remember before my dealer was always about the smell and look of freshly brewed. If I can’t smell it then I can’t trust it

When it comes to deals at dispos (and smoke shops, for stuff like pieces and what not), it helps to subtely ask what the deal is for. Is there a special occasion? Likely a real deal. If their reasoning sounds fishy or doesn't nake too much sense, it's likely not as good a deal as you think.

@@coldspell8676 actually there is such a thing, You just can't go by the Indica sativa thing to make those determination is what Cewpins says. That is correct, everything is a hybrid, half the time when you go in the dispensary that's what they're asking you is, do you want an upper or a downer and there is such a thing.
Such as myrcene is a downing terpene which is common in most indicas which is why we used to go by Indica for couch lock because myrcene is couch locking terpine, and combined with limonene for instance is a good lead towards is sedating effect for 'most' people.
For most or some people was another point Cew made.
Because of everything being a hybrid you may find something that grows as a sativa but rather still has lots of myrcene or other terp that effects you that way so therefore has a sedating effect to you. You can still plan to buy weed with a sedating or uplifting or... effect is what he said.
Limonene combined with caryofolene makes for a relaxing yet uplifting experience for 'most' people and if inflammation bothers you then this combination or a combination that affects your inflammation might make you feel better Even if you're looking for more sedating effects because you may have other underlying discomforts that you need to seek appropriate terpenes for.
Go by the terps. Smell to verify what terps work for YOU. There are generalities that will 'Help Guide" most users if you go by your experience and you can get benefit from talking with a bud tender, and listen to your nose and learn the turps that effect you rather than THC numbers. Have freshly harvested, it is and how fresh your grind.
I think you need to listen to Cewpins again. He didn't say there is no way to tell, he said it's individualized and here are some things you can better go by than "THC numbers or sativa/indica". He Did Not say that because everything is a hybrid that you can't tell. What he said was sativa and indica are no longer an independent standard to go by to gauge uplifting versus sedating. He said what things you could more trustworthily go by to make that type of determination. He did not say you can't go by anything, so I'm not sure what your reason for attacking somebody regarding what they got from this video is for. He was paying a little bit more attention than you appear to be to the messages in the video.

Your first tip is the most important one of all ong. I go into the dispo and ask to smell every strain and pick the best one or two. They always got like 12 strains and 2-3 of em smell gas

I mean you can measure what terpene percentages from a single sativa are normal, and what percentages of terpenes are in a single indica, and test the resulting terpene percentages to determine the ratio of indica/sativa. Terpenes are what denotes strain identification. So that process is completely valid. But im guessing they do not test every plant, just a few out of a batch and mean it out
as for the first tip i’ve never asked to smell anything because i know trulieve for example seals their containers do you think dispensaries such as curaleaf, fluent, liberty, muv and all else who DONT seal their containers where you can just simply remove the lid would let you possibly smell the bud before you buy? i could seriously just ask but i haven’t ever really felt the need i just so online orders most the time

Up in Canada it's great we have legal dispos in every province but for a lot of the stuff, I'm not able to get dispo weed thats fresher than 3 months in the bag.

In Colorado i could get an ounce of concentrate for 100 and here in cali its about 30 for an eighth. For bud the eighths are never over 25

WA state rec shops: Can legally in shop only visually inspect product, and most growers and processors know looks are how rec sales are made. Don't expect to pick "the perfect eighth" as often there's too little product in stock, or simply a tender has little time to look (especially if you're doing an online order).
Top shelf brands like Cookies will blind bag *everything*. Up until recently it was legal for concentrate producers to use chemicals to wash a mediocre extraction job a lighter, more appealing color with little to no benefit.
Some brands have a very deep spiderweb of brand names, processors, and growers - do your research as it's not always possible a budtender will know everything.

Back when i used to peddle weed back in the 90's one of the most commonly used tricks i used was to burn an incense while having " guests" this is so they couldn't smell the difference between 30$ quarter bags and 40$ quarter bags. You tellen me dispensaries dont do this?

While you are correct in that everything is basically a hybrid, they are trying to let the consumer know what to expect in terms of affects more so than the actual chemical make up of the product - I'm a huge sativa by day / indica by night person and while you say everything is basically a hybrid, you can't dismiss that some weed strains give you energy/is stimulating and some weed strains have more physical heavier affects which is objectively true
