Here is a tip to make the bar not hurt your back, line your chest up with the centre of the bar and keep your arms shoulder with apart or just outside of it.
This is Coming from a gym bro too. Barbell bench really isn’t necessary unless you are a power lifter or are training for strength. I do dumbbell bench since it has better rom. But on barbell bench make sure your shoulders are retraced back so your are utilizing your chest more. But if that’s what your are doing in your P.E class then it’s fine.
