- Major shout-out to Super Maggot mikeaz09 for recommending Slipknot's "Prosthetics" based on my comment about reading The Collector. You sir, are awesome (as are the rest of you who suggested this too). This was an experience for sure. If you're looking to get hammered, take a shot every time I say "evil kazoo."
Yes, I know about the girl in a box. Yes, I'm doing that soon. But next up: Virus of Life.

Assuming you all are right---and I have no reason to question you--I can't tell you how disappointed I am that Sid does not play the evil kazoo. I'm actually bummed. Two things to share. 1) I'm doing Virus of Life next, then probably Purity. After that, who knows. 2) I watched Disasterpiece Live the other day but ended up watching the wrong video. But I realized it, said, "Dammit, man, I knew it was a mistake," and then watched the right one. So you'll get a pair of Disasterpieces. What a happy accident! Thanks for being such truly awesome maggots. Love you guys. :)
If you do Purity, you NEED to do it with its intro named Frail Limb Nursery, and the song Tattered and Torn. The 3 go together in a trilogy and It provides MUCH more atmosphere and context to the song.

I often wonder about people who cause atrocities what is the monologue that is going thru their heads as they are committing the atrocities! It’s just always been a weird question I have often wondered.
As a side note Corey’s original mask the dreads coming out of it was his actual hair pulled thru the mask! Later masks used fake dreads attached to the mask! Just a piece of Slipknot trivia that will do you no good in life!

This album was released during the boy band radio pop explosion. They wear the mask and the boiler suits as kind of a finger to the beautiful people and to make people focus on the music. In so many words.
The barcodes were to mock the record industry who treat music like a product.

Oh my god, Frail limb nursey/Purity is just a creepy masterpiece, one of my favorite songs by Slipknot.

@@MusicCatsandCoffee Frail Limb Nursery isn't a song but an extract from an audio piece about the girl 'Purity' and on the album it's used as an intro into Purity.
Slipknot's "Gehenna" and "Virus of life" are so good and underrated its definitely a must for you

Craig Jones’s (pinhead) influence is very strong with this song. Everything you hear including evil kazoo minus the kegs is pinhead. The keg sound in the beginning was Shawn (clown) Crahan tapping away. 06:35 you are correct that is Sid Wilson. For now on in the comments I will tag the time when you can hear either Craig or Sid so you can decider the differences and see how unique they make every song. 10:54 you can hear Craig using the siren effect to evoke the feeling of panic and fear as the stalker chases his pray. It evokes the feeling of adrenaline as you know what you’re doing is wrong but you’ve gone past the point of no return so you might as well follow through knowing you could get caught.
Now that's the kind of dedication I like to see in the comments. Ha! Kidding, but thanks for being extra awesome.
That wasn't Jim. Jim joined the band in 1999 and only recorded the guitar track for Purity and Me Inside, the rest was done by Josh Brainard, who is on the album cover. Also that was before Mick got his self titled mask, he was still wearing his original mask from their demo album, Mate Feed Kill Repeat. I hope you will react to more from this album, at least start with this album before Iowa. It's heavy but Iowa is darker and heavier. But what they did with this album is something special which I don't think can be done again, not just the music, but everything, from the masks, jumpsuits, the tour, the live stunts, the all around feel of this album is just something special. Also "fun" fact about Corey's mask, for a while he would put his actual dreadlocks through the holes in the mask and with the headbanging and craziness on stage, his dreadlocks would hit his eyes, and apparently got a good bit of eye injuries from it. One last fun fact is that, that isn't actually Chris (pinocchio). Chris wasn't fully in the band yet at the time so I'm pretty sure that is just a roadie or Clown's drum tech posing at Chris for the album cover. For the 10 year anniversary edition they just photoshopped Chris and even photoshopped some pink on the hair on top of Josh's mask to make it look like Jim.
Thank you for listening to my Ted Talk, I suggest listening to Wait and Bleed which is probably the most radio friendly song on the album. Another one is Limb Frail Nursery/Purity. Limb Frail Nursery isn't on the album so you have to watch a youtube video that has both together, but that story will be explained when you react to the song.

one last last thing: (I keep thinking of things to say as I watch the video) If you want another really unique slipknot song, you should react to My Pain from the We Are Not Your Kind album, it's something really weird and different.
It was always said to be Clown's drum tech at the time, Anthony 'Satone' Stevens, who posed as Chris on the self-titled album cover. It was also Satone who was wrapped in clingfilm in the image that appears under the CD. Fun fact: Satone did dirty vocals in the band 'downthesun', which was the first and only band signed to Slipknot's short-lived record label, Maggot Corps. The band also featured other guys who had been in bands with Slipknot members back in the day.
Pretty sure Josh was also the guy that stood in for Paul right after he died.

Jim "The Phantom" Root is my absolute favourite. His presence on the stage is just so...cool. I loved him the most during Vol. 3 and AHIG. And I also play guitar so yeah.

I believe we have reached a point where most of the creepy more conceptual songs are on the list so while unrelated to these songs I'd reccomend checking out The Shape and Metabolic off the second album if they are missing from the list. Also I won't be able to listen to this without thinking of the term Evil Kazoo now so thank you for that.

My favourite member is Craig Jones (Pinhead). I love his masks, I love his desire to attract as little attention to himself as possible. He also almost never speaks in public

The guy in the latex mask is actually not Jim. This album was recorded before Jim joined Slipknot. That guy is their "other" guitarist before Jim, named Josh Brainard. Jim wore Josh's bondage hood mask for a few shows before switching to his jester-style mask.
The "evil kazoo" is actually Craig (Pinhead). It was a sample he got from another non-Slipknot song, then he manipulated the sound. You can hear lots of Sid's scratching throughout the song if you listen closely.

One of my absolute favorites off the first album!!! That first riff is one of my all time favourite slipknot riffs I wish it was louder in the mix.
My favourite member is definitely Jim the phantom Root which actually isn't the bondage mask guy. That's Barnard the original lead guitarist who left the band during the holidays after he had already recorded all but I believe two songs.
You should seek out this documentary called "Jim Root The Sound and Story" by Fret 12, Jim goes a lot into the early slipknot days and how he ended up joining after turning them down something like 4-5 times lol

Well as a vocalist myself, Corey would be my favorite but he is also a genuine nice guy which makes him even more likable. But i'm a maggot all the way so the whole of Slipknot is my favorite bunch of guys in music. Craig Jones is the sampler of Slipknot he plays all of the weird creepy scary horror sounds and noises in the background in all of Slipknot's songs. Craig Jones is also the one always wearing the spiked pinhead like mask

Corey doing that mentally unhinged singing/wailing/crying thing will never not be my favorite part of early slipknot. People say his screams are mid for a metal singer but I say the dude is absolutely on another level with his vocals. He really sells the idea that he is some crazed kidnapper going through mental hell whilst in the middle of doing heinous crimes. On another note, this is a perfect Halloween song lmao

So the guy in the black is not in fact Jim Root. Jim was not in Slipknot until after all the songs (except Frail Limb and Purity) were recorded. That I _believe_ is Josh Brainard, who left before Self Titled was released.
Joey was my favorite but after him probably "pinocchio" as you call him and then Sid. Funny 2 of those guys arent in the band anymore.

I don't really know what to comment about this song really, my apologies. I've only recently heard it.
This is my second listen to this song, Imho it's not bad, but it is creepy tho. The 'Kazoo' you mention, is mostly likely Craig, and it's probably a sampled scream from elsewhere from what I'm hearing.
Fun fact: Jim Root isn't on the cover of their ST album, that's their ex-guitarist, Josh Brainard. Jim joined roughly halfway into when they were recording this album.

okidoki this is going to be a long comment. so the evil kazoo is Craig (pinhead/headbangmashine) Jones with his keyboard. also regarding the kegs: if they are fast its Chris (Pinocchio) fehn (mostly and if they are beefy and slow its mostly Shawn ( clown guy) Crahan. Fav. member for me would be Pinocchio or oinnhead :D. Also regarding the first album It. Is. Great. if you want fd up stuff you should listen to scissors. but if you want some relief from angry Corey I would recommend til we die or xix. just for Corey stuff his Paul grey tattoo video (no music just him as a person). Also a mad good song is Germatria. great different songs are purity if you haven't listend to it and spiders. And the only problem with your slipknot videos is that they are not everyday and not 30 mins long. keep it up.

Have you listened to "Circle", from Vol. 3? Not as crazy as this one, just an acoustic track one with an insanely great outro that I'm pretty sure you'd like.
It’s a tough call for me between Undertaker and Corey Freaking Taylor. Corey has such an astounding range but I’ve always been a fan of Mick’s guitar work despite the fact that I can’t play a guitar myself.

I'll have to be unoriginal and say that my favorite member is Corery Freakin' Taylor. Now my favorite mask is Mick's. Yeah, he looks like the Undertaker, but he reminds me more of the dude from the movie, "Sinister". Anyway, evil kazoo may be my favorite Lauren-description yet.

Corey usually has a different sound to his vocals each album for different reasons.
Self titled to Iowa
Corey was younger so he had a different tone of voice but he was also on hardcore drugs and alcohol. By the end of Iowa touring cycle Corey had blown out his voice due to improper screaming techniques and poor treatment of his body.
Volume 3
After Corey had blown out his voice he was ordered by higher ups to only talk during interviews. By the time the band got to recording volume 3 Coreys voice had healed to the point where he could sing again. Corey wanted to try and new sound for volume 3 but part of the new sound was due to the fact that his voices changed and had a different sound to it. Corey and the band also still used hardcore drugs and alcohol during this album cycle.
All hope is gone
During all hope is gone the band had gotten sober from all the hardcore drugs. The band still smoked and some of them still drank alcohol but Corey only smoked. Coreys voice was still healing but he had gone through training to use a proper screaming technique so his screams had a new grungy growl to it.
.5 the gray chapter
Coreys voice was almost healed at this point but it started off as grungy but eventually towards the middle of the .5 touring cycle Corey stoped smoking and his voiced greatly improved.
We are not your kind
Corey is completely sober and now his voice is completely healed. Now his voice is very close to the the first two albums but now with a more mature sound also being trained with proper screaming techniques.
You sure know your Corey. :)
