The K-12 is MUCH warmer. It adds a deep full bodied tone. The NT1000 is an extremely bright microphone but lacks that warm low end that the K-12 adds. The NT1000 is a very decent microphone. It's low noise spec has always been impressive. The K-12 kicks it up to the big leagues though. I'd be curious to hear a K47 or K67 capsule in one. Excellent tutorial! The examples given while doing the mod was perfect!

The new one sounds smoother and calmer to my ears

I can't say which one sounds better, it's a matter of what type of music and taste at this point.
What is amazing is how different the capsules sound.
    Thanks for sharing!

The examples at around 5:00 shows that the modded version is the clear winner.
Now I can say for that K12 capsule is the all around winner.

The NT1000 is not a bad mic but its a better mic with K-12 capsule hands down. Especially on vocals :).

You should hear it on the NTK. A world of difference as both mics share Rode's homeade capsule.

@@rollowarlin8450 I can imagine that one, the NTK is a different animal.
      Thanks for the tip...
Another budget tip is, get the T-Bone SC-450 and put a RK-47 in it.
The T-Bone has some awesome circuitry but the original capsule sucks, it's almost the worst and it has no transformer.

They're actually pretty similar sounding. It feels like the original is a little more focused in the lower mids but the modded one is more open in the highs and has a nice air to it without being harsh. After going back and forth I'd have to say I prefer the modded one because there's more information in the highs and it feels like I'm hearing more details overall.

Different capsules require different or correct circuitry, so if you just modify the capsule, the sound will not be what you want or it could be worse than the original

Have you tested the polar pattern of the new capsule?
The K-12 capsule sounds less directional, there is more room in recordings, but to tell the truth - it's hard to hear that kind of difference.

      Go to see a doctor ... .-)
I can clearly hear some differences but I'm not really sure if the modification made the mic sound better!
      It's just different.

Listen at mix volume on decent studio monitors. The K-12 pushes the lower mids forward. The guitar examples demonstrated it very clearly.
